Januari vol afwisseling. from M. Brito de Campos

Rupsje Nooit Genoeg is helemaal af.

2018 – Ten Squared Plus Five from Lotus Cove Quilting

At last, the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild’s first show, “Taking Flight,” is over (September 29) and I’ve nearly recovered. It was a huge success; we had lots of visitors, lots of quilts, and lots of happy vendors. It was also a huge job creating a show out of whole cloth, a job I’m glad to pass along to another guild member.

“Taking Flight” – inaugural show by Rochester Modern Quilt Guild, September 29, 2018

So, here is a quilt I made for the show. You can also see it hanging lower center in the show photo.

QuiltCon 2019 Acceptances from Carol Lyles Shaw

Yesterday was a busy day on Instagram.  And although I signed off for the holidays, I will have to do one more post.  The Modern Quilt Guild sent out the decision emails for QuiltCon 2019.

I am quietly celebrating three acceptances.

MidCentury Modern Curve #1.  I KNOW that I’ve been promising a pattern…and I am seriously delayed on this one.  However, in the meantime, I’m scheduled to teach this workshop in 2019.  Contact me if your guild is interested in booking this workshop in 2019 (a few dates are open) and 2020.

MidCentury Modern Curve #1 was ...

Getting Modern from Sew........This Is My Blog

I've been a member of the Modern Quilt Guild for a while, but I just recently got around to joining the local branch.  In September I visited the Rocket City Modern Quilt Guild (what else would you call the group in Huntsville, Alabama?) and decided to become an active member right away by jumping into some of their current projects.

When the half-square triangle piecing papers were passed around I grabbed a few to take home, found a few 10" squares, and made some half-square triangles to take back with me when I go to the meeting next week ...

2018 -Green Fuse from Lotus Cove Quilting

Wow, it’s been over a year since I posted on the blog!

Since the 2017 Genesee Valley Quilt Fest, I’ve been extremely busy with two projects: downsizing from a 4-bedroom house to a 2-bedroom condo, and chairing the first quilt show of the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild.

The show will be 10-5 on Saturday, September 29 at First Unitarian Church of Rochester, 220 Winton Road, Rochester, NY 14610. Hope to see you there!

And I’ve managed in the meantime to make a few quilts. I hope to cover them in upcoming posts, but here’s a preview ...

My Quilts from Modern Quilts: Designs of a New Century – Modern X and HST from Christa Quilts

Today I’m pleased to be a part of the blog tour for the brand new book published by The Modern Quilt Guild and C&T Publishing, Modern Quilts: Designs of the New Century.

It’s a beautiful coffee table book presented in hard cover with images of over 200 modern quilts.

I always like to give a little behind the scenes backstory about how I end up being featured in collaborations such as this one. Sometimes it’s luck, other times it’s tenacity ...

Fresh Quilting & MQG membership giveaway! from Flying Parrot Quilts

Earlier this year, I taped two segments for Season 2 of Fresh Quilting, and the first of the two episodes featuring my segments is airing this week on the website. If you’re a Modern Quilt Guild member, you can binge-watch the entire season online (and Season 1, too)! Not a member? Here’s how to join.

Sylvia Schaefer of Flying Parrot Quilts on Fresh Quilting Season 2 |

This week’s segment is all about matching your binding to your piecing, and I show you how to match up both straight and angled binding.

Unfortunately, the segment was only 10 minutes long so I didn’t have time to show you ...

Bountiful Minis from the Portland Modern Quilt Guild from Art Gallery Fabrics-The Creative Blog

Hey there, makers!

How’s everything? It’s insane how it’s already the ending of the year. Before 2017 comes to a close, I’m here to showcase three wonderful makers from a long overdue recap. At AGF we love partnering with quilt guilds and makers for different activities. So, from May to September we paired up with the Portland Modern Quilt Guild and our designer Sharon Holland to host the Bountiful Mini Quilt Challenge.

The participants were asked to create a “modern mini quilt” inspired by rustic elementsthat complement the homey and earthy feel of Bountiful fabrics ...

Quiltcon 2017 Day 2 from Fostering Others

On Day 2 of Quiltcon, instead of my sister finding a spot to knit, She enjoyed the Quiltcon with me! We started on the opposite side of the building then I did on day one.  We looked at some awesome quilts and entered a raffle.

We then saw the activities at the Cotton and Steel booth.  I made a quick lanyard and she made a headband.  Some of my favorite parts of Quiltcon are the activities!!   And I got a few pieces of  selvedge!! I love how thick the Cotton and Steel fabric was.  I am not sure if I ...
