A Little Progress from Cat Patches

It was a nice sunny day for most of the day yesterday, but breezy and cold. Smitty and Sadie dearly wanted to be outside, but their winter coats aren't thick enough yet to stand up to the cold. They were in-and-out cats for a couple of hours before we called a halt and shut the door for the day.

The bowl on my embroidery piece is stitched now, and I've made my way to the flags. In this election season, it makes me feel downright patriotic.

As I said yesterday, now that the bowl is stitched, I can ...

Needling from Cat Patches

When I finished yesterday's post, I went downstairs to find Smitty crashed on Mike's lap. His photo shoot from the day before totally wiped him out.

He loves his fans, but honestly, his celebrity is exhausting sometimes.

As I mentioned, I had an appointment with my dermatologist yesterday. He biopsied two little spots I pointed out to him. One was on my nose. And just let me tell you that anything that requires a needle prick to the nose is very painful. I'm afraid that one is going to require more when the results are received, but ...

Sitting and Stitching from ... Cat Patches

It rained most of the day yesterday, as it will for the next few days. It was a perfect day for slow-stitching. First up, I finished the section of the embroidery hoop I was working on.

Now I've moved the hoop north to encompass the watermelon. I think this would have been better stitched during the summer. With such wet weather, the idea of watermelon just makes me sad for the long winter that's coming.

Not to worry though. I just snuggled up under the Snow Globes quilt and went to work stitching the binding. Now I've ...

Busy Day from ... Cat Patches

We had such a nice visit with the family yesterday evening. For birthdays back in May, there was a question whether I could get a prime rib roast for our birthday feast. Erik and Mae scored a big one at Costco. It was practically the whole side of beef, and we ended up cutting it into four pieces, as I recall. Then, my own local grocery store came through with the one I'd ordered up, and so we had prime rib coming out of our ears. I'd frozen all the ones we didn't use, and so we ...

End of the Lines from Cat Patches

It took all day long yesterday, but the quilting on Snow Globes is complete. It's going to be a busy day today, but I'm going to endeavor to budget my time so that I can get the binding sewn on by machine. That always ends up taking longer than expected, so no promises.

Of course, I could not have accomplished this without the steadfast assistance of my quilting buddy. He was there to the bitter end, encouraging me every step of the way.

He offered his helping paws even when I didn't know I needed them.

Thread Magic from ... Cat Patches

Have you ever noticed how a can of non-stick cooking spray will last way past the point when there seems to be nothing left in the can? Sometimes I can shake the can, sure there is nothing left inside, and yet...it continues to produce spray for another several days. I call it the "magic" part of the can. That's kind of how I feel about my spool of thread right now. As I'm sewing, I keep checking it to see how much is left. It seems to have less thread each time I look, but it keeps ...

So Much Sewing from ... Cat Patches

All the pebbling on the Snow Globes quilt has me sewing all day with not much to show for it. Even my sewing cat Smitty is so bored with the pebbling that he didn't even come around yesterday.

 More pebbling? [Yawn.]

I'm with you, Smitty. Let me know if she starts quilting birds, though.

So that was my day. Around, and around, and around. It might seem tedious, but it's actually pretty relaxing. Still, it is time-consuming, and so there isn't much to show for all that sewing.

After each block, I take a break and ...

Lots of Sewing from Cat Patches

With rain falling for most of the day, it was very nearly sewing all day long. I was brave and did a little housework too. It allowed me to sew without guilt. The morning's slow stitching had me getting a start on the next plate for Pieces of the Past.

It's a small piece, and so I expect it won't take long to finish it. When I was ready, I did my housekeeping chore, and then rewarded myself with some slow stitching around the binding for the Bag Ladies. I've turned the second corner now.

Keeping Calm and Carrying On from Cat Patches

The past couple of weeks have been stressful. There's certainly enough in newspaper headlines to scare anyone. Add in a fire near one's home with an evacuation of several days' length, and you have a level of stress that requires a little recovery time. It was an exhausting effort to stay positive while we were evacuated. After yesterday's grocery shopping trip...pretty easy as those things go...my energy was tapped out, and I took a good long nap. By 2:00, grocery shopping was the only thing accomplished for the day. Eventually, I decided some slow-stitching ...

Wet World from Cat Patches

Just take a look at this wonderfully wet world.

We got more than an inch of rain in less than 24 hours. I thought there might be more today, but it looks like the chance of that is slim. It's fine though. There's more forecast for later in the week. In the meantime, I have corn to harvest! And some weeds to pull! It's perfect weeding weather.

The kitties are lapping it up (pun totally intended). When I came upstairs to write this post, I left Smitty snuggled into Mike's lap.
