Logs on the Pile 61, 62, 63, 64, 65 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week again already, and as usual some Log Cabin variations to look at.

Some interesting affects in all of the designs.

They don’t come more different to the one above!

That’s the lot this week … more next week, mid week.

Cabin Fever 106, 107, 108, 109, 110 from Virtual Quilter

This project file has several variations of Log Cabin blocks which I mix up to create an ever growing collection of designs.

I would find it much more interesting to make four identical versions of block a, plus four each of two colour variations, sixteen block b, twenty block c … until you have the required number of blocks.

As an added bonus, you could try arranging the blocks differently to the original design. I issued a real challenge to make 25 assorted Log Cabin blocks to make up a small quilt, and at the time I handed out the first ...

Less Logs in the Cabin 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

My mid week retreat isn’t quite the same as a real retreat, but it is always worth taking at least a few minutes out of the day to look at quilt designs and dream about the next quilt.

Second one is similar tot he first … at first glance, but the first has 16 Curved Log Cabin, or Thick and Thin Log Cabin blocks … this second one has none.

I love the outer row of blocks above.

Very interesting!

Love the two borders using Courthouse Steps blocks with just one side in darker fabrics!

That’s all for this week ...

City Courthouse 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

The first three designs for this weeks Mid Week Log Cabin Retreat are very similar.

Eight blocks have changed for the second design.

Just four blocks changed for the one above.

I am not going to try to count the number of blocks changed for the fourth design for the day.

When I opened this project file there were just five designs left to share, but I have added enough for another mid week retreat sometime in the future.

More Log Cabin designs in the middle of next week … though I have to attend and then recover from a real ...

Log Jam 86, 87, 88, 89, 90 from Virtual Quilter

I like it! Colours are not inspiring, but the design works.

Don’t like this one as much as the first one!

That is better!

Not my favourite!

And the last one for this week’s Log Cabin Mid Week Retreat is my favourite from this lot!

More log Cabin deigns, mid week, next week.

Hexie Logs 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 from Virtual Quilter

Instead of starting with a square in the centre, start with a hexagon, then add some applique here and there … and look what can happen!

And some of the blocks have more than the usual strips in the lightest fabric.

In the design above some of the blocks are a much larger centre hexagon with just one round of dark strips around applique.

Some of the Hexagons don’t even have a strip added, just applique.

In this project file I am doing all the things I do to square blocks … use background fabric more than in the basic block ...

TNT Logs 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

This design uses just one of two colour variations of the Thick and Thin, or Curved Log Cabin block.

The second design uses the same arrangement of the blocks, but with the other colour variation of the blocks.

Looks like a warm winter quilt and a cool summer quilt … just use thick or thin wadding.

The warm version of a slightly different design …

… and the summer version of the same design.

I have the summer version of this design, but will leave it to you to try to imagine what it looks like until I share another five designs from ...

Log Cabin + Dark 16, 17, 18, 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

This design just fits the criteria set in the title of the series … it has just four all light blocks.

In contrast, this one has 28 dark blocks.

The colours are not great, but there are over 200 designs still to be shared in this project, and I would probably make the file even bigger trying to change each and every one of them to a different colour scheme. The contrast does the work in these designs so they are going to wear these colours until the end!

I don’t like the colours anymore, but I am liking the ...

Bundaleer Logs 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Another lost and found project file which I started to share with every design getting a different name … before I started having a mid week Log Cabin retreat sharing at least two designs, which quickly became five!

Something a bit different!

A small modification, and I like it better than before.

Like the one above.

This series uses just the basic half light Log Cabin block, plus all dark and all light blocks.

Like the one above too!

Hope you found one to like.

As always, more Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Cabin Fever Quilted 51, 52, 53, 54, 55 from Virtual Quilter

Log Cabin blocks can create some wonderful designs in well coordinated fabrics, and the seam lines make a useful guide to quilting … but boring without a bit of contrast somewhere.

I like the contrast of the straight seam lines and the curved quilting lines.

With a solid back it would still look like a Log Cabin quilt, but with a few curves it has a lot more movement.

I like the one above.

The last one could be improved with some curved quilting in the centre!

That’s all folks … until mid week next week!

Log Cabin Quilting 21, 22, 23, 24, 25 from Virtual Quilter

I like the idea of filling some of the lighter areas of Log Cabin quilts with some curved lines, but keeping most of the quilting on the straight and narrow, following the block design.

I like both of the above.

Like the one above too.

I have included some like the one above so the straight lines of the Log Cabin are more visible than they usually are on the dark side.

Like the last design for this weeks mid week retreat featuring Log Cabin designs … more next week!

Log Cabin Baby Blocks 46, 47, 48, 49, 50 from Virtual Quilter

I am not sure that a log cabin with so many sharp corners would be easy to furnish, but a Log Cabin quilt would be warm and cosy.

The one above has some wonderful shapes to show off some interesting quilting.

Despite all the fantastic possibilities for designs, I was still impressed to see an all scrap Barnraising quilt in an exhibition over the weekend.

With attention to fabric choices some of these designs could become a multifaceted diamond … a quilter’s best friend!

That’s all, folks. Well, until next week, mid week.

Log Cabin Hideaway 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week, which means you expect Log Cabins!

This project has a mixture of Log Cabin variations, with a mixture of colourings as well.

My favourite of the day.

There may be some inspiration for those following the Virtual Quilt Challenges in this collection of designs.

The last on for the day … more next week as usual.

Cabin Fever Isolation Area 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of another week … or hump day … it is all downhill to the weekend now!

I started this project file because I had added over 150 to the Cabin Fever project.

I got little carried away with the new project file, and I am wondering if Electric Quilt has a limit on the number of designs you can save in the Sketchbook.

If there is a limit it is a rather large number!

If I have a favourite today I think it would be the one above … something a bit different, but not too way out.

More Log Cabin designs ...

TNT Logs + 76, 77, 78, 79, 80 from Virtual Quilter

Middle of the week, so time to share some Log Cabin designs.

Looks like the mice started eating the corners, but love the design overall.

Love this one …

… and here is the inside out view!

This project file has just 6 blocks, and I have used them to create over 500 designs. Some designs are minor variations of another design, some are totally different. Some look quite different even with a relatively minor change!

That is it for this week … and this post has given me an idea for the next Virtual Quilt Challenge, coming this next weekend.

And of ...

Log Heap 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

It was the middle of the week, last week, when this should have appeared … but I was not only living without a surplus of electricity, but spent this day as kitchen maid to the shearer’s cook.

The first three designs are interesting … but then …

Now that is something different!

That is all I missed posting over the last ten days or so.

Hopefully, now I have caught up, I will return to a regular schedule, but I am not counting on it for a few days yet!

Log Cabin Leaf Central 41, 42, 43, 44, 45 from Virtual Quilter

Mid week again … and time to hit the road again.

Amazing how time flies when you are having fun with friends … even non quilting friends!

It is autumn here now, though we get the wonderful leaf colours on very few trees around our area. Our main colour is dust at the end of a long, dry summer.

Nearly the end of the mid week Log cabin retreat this week …

…. but there will be more next week.

Cabin Fever Quilted 31, 32, 33, 34, 35 from Virtual Quilter

Middle if the week, time for a short coffee break looking at some Log Cabin quilt designs … and this week they are virtually quilted.

I prefer to quilt enough to hold the layers together, but not too much.

Too much quilting tends to make quilts stiff, and I much prefer cuddly quilts.

What I do love about the quilting is how it makes a quilt come alive with texture.

The quilt above would be pretty bland without the quilting in that vast expanse of wishy-washy fabrics.

Love the last one. A very familiar setting, but what a difference the quilting ...

Curved Cornerstones + 81, 82, 83, 84, 85 from Virtual Quilter

Another week has raced by … time to share more Log Cabin designs.

I feel like I am running around in circles most days … at least the circles in the design above are anchored, which means in theory, they are not spinning.

Love the one above.

Not sure if I like this one or not!

Mmm! The circles are not tied down very well in the last design for today … hope that is not an indication of what the next week holds in store!

More Log Cabin designs mid week, next week.

Logs in the Pale 26, 27, 28, 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

I love low contrast, and am amazed at how effective it can be.

The first four designs are rather similar, with just minor changes … the sort of changes we might have to make because we made four blocks using the wrong fabrics, maybe because we ran out of some fabrics

Unlike many of my designs, these would fit a modern minimalist decor.

I cannot pick a favourite from the first four designs.

I saved the best until last … love this one!

This is the lot for this week’s mini retreat, but there will be more mid week next week.
