In celebration of the Eric the Quilter Facebook page getting 1500 followers, I decided to give something back! Here’s the kicker… 2 giveaways!!! One on Facebook, and one on Instagram!

Follow the jump to learn more!

First up we have the art roving! Who doesn’t love some good roving! This is a special art blend I whipped up on my drum carder. A friend pointed out the palette color is similar to Monet’s Water Lilies… So I think I’ll call it… I can’t come up with a name, so you guys give me one! It ...

Happily Plugging Away from Quilting Studio Adventures

I love jelly rolls.  They are a reasonable way to place with a fabric collection, like this one - “quotation” by Zen Chic.  These colors are not one I gravitate towards, but I really like how this quilt turned out. It’s 60” x 80” and will be looking for its owner once it’s quilted.  And this will not be hand-quilted because the whites are all sort of heavy,  ot the kind of fabric I want to needle.  So I’ll baste this and put it in the “needs to be quilted”

I’m part of a little bee group ...

Connected Throw Quilt - In Sunshine Terrace! from Busy Hands Quilts

Today I'm sharing with you a Connected Throw quilt I made with the quilt kit from Connecting Threads.  This is a quick and easy quilt pattern.

Fabric Selection

The fabrics are from the Sunshine Terrace fabric collection at Connecting Threads.  It's a beautiful collection of blues and yellows in varying hues that add a lot of depth to the quilt pattern.  Connected would look very different if the fabrics in each colorway didn't have variations in hue.

Binding Love!

When choosing fabric placement for quilt kits I curate ...

Sweet Caroline Throw Size Quilt Kit! from Busy Hands Quilts

Sweet Caroline has been kitted by Connecting Threads in the Throw size.  This is the Wild Crimson fabric collection, focusing on the blue fabrics in the collection instead of the reds and tans.

The pattern gives exact fabric placement to create the three darker squares in the middle of the 25-patch blocks.  They alternate direction every other block to create a subtle secondary design.

Sweet Caroline is a yardage-friendly quilt pattern that uses strip piecing to go together quickly.

TIP:  Be sure your strip sets are the correct height so the blocks fit together ...

Family Ties has been kitted by Connecting Threads in the beautiful Kindred Blossoms fabric collection!  This is the Throw size.

I mentioned in a previous post that I am on a kick using darker fabrics as the background, and this quilt is no exception.  This is a deep indigo.

Oh My Darling Quilt Kit! from Busy Hands Quilts

Oh My Darling has been kitted by Connecting Thread in the beautiful Wild Crimson fabric collection!  This is the Throw size.

I see cowboy boots and blue jeans when I look at this quilt with the denim-look blue background fabric.  More and more I'm using darker tone-on-tone fabrics as the background fabric and loving it!  ♥  I'm all for usable quilts, and it just seems like it's easier to use, love, and handle a quilt with a darker background.

Family Ties Quilt Pattern in 6 Sizes from Lap to King! from Busy Hands Quilts

Family Ties is a jelly roll friendly quilt pattern that is strip pieced for a quick finish!  No sewing individual squares together, although you could if you wanted to.

Lovely spring weather means that quilts can be photographed on the clothesline again!  There is nothing better than natural light for photos, but it definitely is touch and go - it can't be too gray, can't be too bright, can't be windy, can't be rainy.  Oh my, a girl nearly gives up waiting for the perfect time!

To me, the strips of squares represent the ties of family ...

Grandpa's Barn - a New Quilt Pattern in 5 Sizes! from Busy Hands Quilts

Grandpa's Barn, where ol' fashioned meets today's modern fabrics for a stunning quilt!  Both jelly rolls or scraps are perfect for Grandpa's Barn which is a strip pieced pattern that goes together very quickly.  The pattern includes pressing instructions so every seam in the quilt nests, my favorite!

Grandpa's Barn includes 5 sizes - Baby, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.  The center square design ends up in different places on the sizes.  It's most often found off-center, but is in the center for the baby quilt.

I say, yes please! to a striped binding any day ...

Knitting, Binding and Cross Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

I'm still stitching away on February's cross stitch ornament from Linen and Threads.  I will add some more stitches this weekend for slow Sunday stitching.  I need to buy some extra skeins of these colours so that I can use them for all 12 ornaments. I have a plan in my head for a project which will include all 12...

My friend, Pat, is teaching me to knit.  This week, I made the big leap from working on my red practice sampler to actually starting a real project using a pattern!  We went shopping yesterday at the local ...

Connected - A New Quilt Pattern in 6 Sizes! from Busy Hands Quilts

Connected is a design that just happened on the computer when I was playing around with blocks.

Do you think it's strip pieced? ...

Of course it is!  I love strip pieced quilts and write my patterns with strip piecing when ever possible.  This quilt is no exception.

Fabric selection tips

Choosing fabrics for a quilt pattern couldn't be easier than for Connected.  Here are some guidelines:
  • Colors on opposite sides of the color wheel.  This is the principle behind my choice of orange and navy.  In this quilt the orange is considered the "lighter" fabric and the navy ...

It's all about the jelly roll rugs from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had Sit n Sew yesterday. One of my favorite days of the month. Despite that fact, I was way over in my daily step count. Why? Well, it seems that I do a lot of walking when the group is over and not a whole lot of sewing. I help carry the sewing machines down the stairs and fetch things if someone forgot something. I've no idea why so many steps, but it was a wild day. One of my highest activity days in a while.

So I'm ahead on both challenges. The goal was to catch ...

Sit n sew day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

You'll have to wait for more of our class show and tell while I take today to share with you what happened yesterday at the Sit and Sew.

First off - I'm going to be late this morning. I got up way later than normal. Why? Because I went to bed with something on my mind (nothing bad - just something that has to be done). I didn't advance it yesterday at all and it weighed heavily on my mind. So I woke up in the middle of the night. I got up and did stuff and then I ...

The serger from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I have NOTHING to do and NOWHERE to go today! OK - so there's technically nothing on the calendar although I have slated this as a CLEANUP day. There's a TO-DO list, but nothing is due today and no official places to go. I LOVE IT and the weather is supposed to be glorious. I'm pumped - I'm super excited. I've got loads that I want to do.

Another fun day at the Monday Sewing group. I've been spending the last couple of Mondays doing hand applique all day. I just couldn't take another day ...
