Anndd On the Frame This Week... from Val's Quilting Studio

As I begin this quilting project I'm so very grateful for extra-wide backing!!!

This morning I've been busy getting this queen size pretty on the frame and am anticipating it will take me a good chunk of my last three weeks of summer break to quilt it. I plan to crosshatch the nine-patches and stipple the background of each flower, along with outlining each flower. The song "99 beers " I mean, blocks, is chiming in my head as I prepare for this daunting quilting adventure.

I'm a little worried as I  haven't even started and I ...

On the Frame This Week... from Val's Quilting Studio

Oh Happy Day everyone!

I finally finished my Bloom SAL project and I couldn't be more pleased with the results.
Don't ya just love that feeling when ya finish something made entirely from your stash.
When I very first starting quilting, I collected fat quarters of 30's repro's everywhere I you can imagine how good it felt to dig into that stash for this adorable Lori Holt SAL.
I'm on my way to put this one on the quilting frame and am looking forward to another Friday Finish this month...that will be ...

14/15 Saturday Sampler Finished! from Val's Quilting Studio

Don't' ask me why it took  so long to quilt my 2014/15 Saturday Sampler but today I got it done.
With it's 10" blocks it measures 43"x 56"and would be a nice lap quilt or perfect for a little girl.

I used this Lisa's Lace Pantograph in white thread to accent the whimsical flowers in Deb Strain's  Bloomin' Fresh fabric line and with it's bright colors it's sure to make someone happy!

The back is just as a garden of flowers trimmed with it's binding of turquoise polka ...

An Adorable Moment from Val's Quilting Studio

Indulge me for a moment as I just had to share this sweet moment my husband captured between Jackson and our grandson. Nothing better that a push-up shared between friends.

Atleast now we know why he wants to name his new brother: Jackson!
These two play so well together and our grand always wants to "see" Jackson when we facetime.
It's just tooooo cute!

2017 Classroom Quilt: Finished! from Val's Quilting Studio

I spent a good part of the morning on our deck stitching the binding on my classroom quilt...
...which led me to a Friday Finish!! Yipppeeee!!!!

I found this fun crayon fabric in my stash and thought it was the perfect accent to the kids' colored panels. I even splurged and if you zoom in, you'll see I used a crayon pantograph!

As I later busied myself with getting ready to run some errands,
I came around the corner only to find somebody fast asleep:

One of my errands was to the local library to pick up some summer ...

Creativity: Different Chapters of our Life from Val's Quilting Studio

Like you, I am a girl who is always growing. A woman who's soul is filled with curiosity and find inspiration in the ordinary. A creative spirit that is expressive and aware. But I noticed after my weekend retreat that my day to day life hasn't been balanced with my need for personal creative outlet. Curiosity getting the better of me, I asked fellow quilters, what they planned to do with the quilt they were making. Though all their answers were respectable, it was the one who exclaimed: "I have absolutely no idea. I just love making it ...

Busy Start to Summer. from Val's Quilting Studio

The day after I got out of school for summer break, we hit the road to our daughter and son-in-laws to attend his graduation as a Radiology Technologist. Two years of intensive work done. We are so proud of them both and wish him the best on his boards this coming weekend.

We celebrated Father's Day:

And for the last four day's I've had this little Ninja Turtle in the house as we enjoyed our first Grammy Camp of the summer: (Don't ya love how silly 3 1/2 years olds are!)

He and Jackson continue ...

Grammy Camp: Spiderman Pillowcase! from Val's Quilting Studio

Summer got on it's way with Grammy Camp right off the bat!
I spent an hour one morning this week sewing this Spiderman Pillowcase for my favorite little buy:

He and I play Spiderman all the time (with silly string of course) and when we came across this fabric in the attic among his Mother's old things, we knew right away what we were going to do with it.

Well after he spent ten minutes walking around being a "ghost".

As you can imagine getting these two together for a picture was...well...full of silly moments with ...

Beautiful, Colorful Butterflies Finish from Val's Quilting Studio

What better way to start summer than with a colorful picnic quilt!

With it's bright, colorful. squares and rich purple binding,
along with a pantograph of quilted "colorful, beautiful flowers"
this little 48"x 56" quilt is ready for some summer fun!

Seriously, have you ever finished a quilt you just can't wait to start using?
This is one of those quilts for me. I just love everything about it... much it's already in the wash and will then become my permanent car quilt.
We're ready for whatever summer adventures lie ahead and my summer ...

Val's Quilting Studio

This week's theme is: TIED QUILTS

Mom, What are you doing with my blanket?

This was one of my very first quilts. I bought it at a County Fair some twenty years ago. I loved it's scrappy look and I bought it out of inspiration as I knew someday I'd learn how to make a quilt.

It is now tattered and worn and admittably one of Jackson's kennel blankets,
but there's just something ...

Happy Mother's Day! from Val's Quilting Studio

This is how I plan to spend a good part of my day. It will be filled with good food,
slow stitching and a long afternoon walk...
I will be spoiled by these two...
...and I will enjoy Facetime calls with my own mom and daughter that are long enough to wear down a phone battery, time filled with enough smiles and laughter to last me an entire week.
Hoping your day is filled with the same love and rejuvenation as mine.

Tackling Some WIP... from Val's Quilting Studio

We were awoken at the crack of dawn with a truck delivery of wood for our patio extension.
As you can imagine, our little guy was quick to jump out of bed
to watch  all the trucks and trackers in our driveway!

We spent the rest of this rainy morning hanging out together in the studio.
He busy playing Paw Patrol near by.

Me happily sewing and getting caught up on my Scrap Dance Mystery:

After squaring up all those Half Squared Triangles, I now have a wonderful bowlful of scraps to refill my thread bird feeder...just in time ...

A Boy and A Dog... from Val's Quilting Studio

...are always heartwarming to watch play together aren't they.

I never really realized how inseparable Jackson and our Grand-guy are, until I was sitting outside yesterday afternoon enjoying a rest and a well earned glass of wine. Jackson follows him everywhere. They chase each other. They play "hide and seek". They laugh. They gives kisses.  Suddenly I realized why he always requests to "see Jackson" every time we Facetime and wants
"his baby" named Jackson if it's a boy! LOL!!!!!

Well...except when said boy pretends he's Spiderman spinning a web on his dog!
Jackson's not ...

Snow Update from Val's Quilting Studio

Things are finally getting back to normal in our little part of the world.
Our snow melt has been gradual and it's actually kinda strange to see grass and roads again.

I smiled as I saw this heart shaped ice on my way to check the mail:
Thinking how crazy it is that this simple heart is all that's left from this:

But even the geese can see again and I think it's safe to say that we're all
looking forward to seeing a bit more green around here as Spring gradually nears.
As always, thanks ...

Some Quilting and Sewing... from Val's Quilting Studio

So I've spent a large portion of my long weekend off from teaching right here:

 I've been quilting.

I used this "Square Dance" pantograph to...

...quilt this top for Nancy who commissioned me to do this for her. She blogs at PugMom Quilts.
This one is for her nephew and I absolutely love how it's turning out!

 I've been sewing.

I finally started my Feb. One Monthly Goal. About now I'm thinking it was a little over optimistic of to think I could sew a queen size quilt top together in one, seriously ...

Friday Night Sew-In! from Val's Quilting Studio

We are gradually thawing out in our part of the world.
On the home front, we finally have our backyard sidewalk back:

And now that the temperatures range from 21-41 degrees, the bunnies have been moved out of the basement and returned to their outdoor hutch. They are very happy!

Life is a little less overwhelming as the snow has gradually been melting and life is becoming normal again. We can see our streets and sidewalks and yes, there is light at the end of our winter of snow!

A school, the kids are able to play outside once again ...

A Knitted Surprise! from Val's Quilting Studio

I was greeted at my parent's house with this beautiful blanket my mom has been secretly knitting for me since before December! She made it to match a quilt in our guest bedroom, but until I get the quilts finished for our master bedroom, I'm going to enjoy it right here every day!
It's a cozy lap size measuring 45"x 85".
The greens and browns are so rich and I love the texture and edge of this blanket.
My mom knits blankets for me and I sew quilts for her. Each of our homes are filled ...

Saturday Sewing... from Val's Quilting Studio

I think someone wishes he was outside as he... his dad clear all those icicles that have built up.
I just let him out and he lasted all of five minutes and is now cuddled up on the couch.
Personally, I plan to keep warm in my studio today with a list of quilty things to keep me busy:
1. Happy RSC Saturday...I linked my final purples.
2. I'm all caught up on my January Scrap Dance Mystery QAL
3. Just need to quilt and bind my Winter Wallhanging and I'll have my January OMG met ...

Jan. OMG: Winter Wallhanging Finish from Val's Quilting Studio

My January OMG was to get these finished into a wallhanging that would be completed and
hanging in our home by the end of the month.

Ta Da! With two days to spare, I got 'er done.

Knowing this was my "One Monthly Goal" motivated me to get this one done. I used a variety of random quilting on this one as I didn't want the quilting to be too dense and well, quite honestly, I wasn't in the mood to quilt this weekend. So I  kept things simple as I echoed around the mittens and the hearts ...
