A Quilty Nap... from Val's Quilting Studio

The only sunny spot in our home right now:
Such an unseasonal winter we are having.
So very mild in comparison to our Winter Snow last year!
But it's still cold when I can't find Jackson, I know this is where to look! I'm looking forward to a quiet afternoon of sewing as I too stay warm and await for our house guests to arrive later this afternoon. And yes! That includes two cute little grand guys on top of a surprise visit from our niece last night and again tonight. Love these kind of ...

Best of 2017 Linky from Val's Quilting Studio

I like participating in Cheryl's "Best of" Linky Party as it creates the opportunity and motivation for me to look back and see how my year of blogging has been.
My "word" for 2017 was JOY. I started out the year with an ambitious list of goals, but quickly realized I'd take a more joyful, laid back approach to my quilting. Our Winter was overwhelming and Fall was filled with family transitions, which as you know, included welcoming our new grand guy. Wierd how much can happen in a year huh. In review, I did finish six quilts ...

Christmas Joy! from Val's Quilting Studio

Our grand-guy is visiting with us until we bring him home on Christmas Eve.
His Poppi treated him to this special Reindeer pancake breakfast this morning:

He loves Rudolph this year and was over the moon happy! Nothing better than that to remind me of the true Joy of Christmas than to see it through the eyes of an energetic four year old.

He's of course, counting down the days until "Santa" arrives and in the mean time,
is keeping his Meme and Poppi hopping as they too begin to count down the days to Christmas. (LOL!) But having ...

Santa's Elves from Val's Quilting Studio

I had an unexpected donation of holiday treats for our school backpack program yesterday and spontaneously decided to create little Christmas Stocking for each of our sixteen backpack kids. Luckily, my cooperating teacher leads a middle school "girls" club and before I knew it, my sewing studio was turned into Santa's workshop within an hour of school being let out.
These girls went right to work. Two tracing the stocking pattern. Two cutting the patterns out. Another assigned herself as the "Stocking Turning Outer" and another as the "Stocking Stuffer".
They called me "The Sewer". (As if what I ...

Baby it's Cold Outside... from Val's Quilting Studio

I took a break from sewing my OMG project to take a neighborhood walk.
We've been under an inversion of COLD this week so I had to bundle up, but the fresh air felt good.
Sorry for the blurry picture. My phone does not like the cold.

Our days have been so very grey that even our little window solar figurines aren't dancing.
Our highs are only 27-29 degrees and the nights are in the teens. Brrrr...
As you can imagine, everyone's saying if it's going to be this cold, let it snow!
Mayybbbeeee not THIS ...

Honey why is this quilt all ragged on the edges?? from Val's Quilting Studio

Huh? OMG!! This quilt has been sitting on the couch in my studio for the past 2 1/2 years!! I never realized that the binding wasn't sewn down until I heard that question from my husband.
Seriously, the binding was on...just not sewn down. How does that happen? Anyhoooo....I packed it up and it provided the perfect hand sewing this past two weeks while I was at our daughter's and I had a homemade quilt to sleep under every night. Doesn't get better than that does it. And now to celebrate this long overdue ...

Shoshone Falls, Idaho and Snow! from Val's Quilting Studio

I spent most of my weekend visiting our oldest daughter in her new home town of Twin Falls, Idaho.
This is Shoshone Falls Idaho:
I'm so excited that they live here now. The canyon is beautiful and offers ample opportunities for family hiking and kayaking. The town is inviting with enough to do without being too big.

All my pictures are a little "grey" in this post, as we had our first "skiff" of snow this weekend too.

It was that cold, wet, fluffy kind of snow.
We didn't let it stop us from touring the town and ...

I'm Happily Back! from Val's Quilting Studio

I sure missed my routines of blogging and sewing. But, I'm also so grateful I had the foresight to put so much on hold as we enjoyed family fun with our daughter, SIL and grand-guy as they stayed with us this past month during their transition. We so admire their patience as they make this big move with a wee one on the way! Wow! So much has happened.
Our grand-guy turned four! ( I didn't get his spiderman quilt done in time, but luckily, four year olds really don't know the difference and he'll be excited ...

Superhero Walk-A-Thon from Val's Quilting Studio

Introducing our new class of "Super Second Graders"!

Okay Ladies, we are never too old to wear a tutu! (OMG!!)
My cooperating teacher keeps me young and I truly love her for that!

This is our annual fundraiser for misc. classroom supplies.
It's fun and makes for a great Friday.

I hope you'll stop by this weekend as I'm looking forward to sharing the beginnings
of my grand guy's Spiderman quilt with you.  I even took the little guy fabric shopping
with me and he helped me pick out ALL the fabric! So fun and he ...
