Enjoying the Hand Work from Quilty Folk

It's been a very productive couple of days here lately. Always good to take advantage as it won't last forever! The hand quilting on Tidbits is coming right along. I cut out a cardboard template in the shape of the outer 'hill' and then marked the entire quilt. One hill fits just inside my frame with a little to spare {yes, I totally planned that}. All the inside hills are marked completely freehand, frame by frame, once I get to them.

As always, starting out with the freehand stitching is a little bit nerve-wracking ...

Nothing Very Inspiring from Quilty Folk

Where to start? I don't seem to do very well with being over-scheduled and/or missing out on having good chunks of time for my own pursuits. In fact, it really messes with my creativity which we all know is of absolute importance in the general scheme of things. Right?

Patchwork Garden applique prep
After fiddling around in the quilting room here and there, mostly wasting time, I finally was able to buckle down and get the applique prepped for Patchwork Garden. This quilt has been quite the roller coaster ride of loving it and then hating it. You ...

A Very Yellow Post from Quilty Folk

I have so enjoyed hand quilting on Quarter Circles Round #2. There's just something about this bold, in-your-face yellow quilt that makes me smile. Today has seen the first stage of the binding sewn on and surprisingly, {at least to me}, it's going to be red. Two striped pieces of homespun straight from the stash.

Ready for binding
More and more, I pull binding fabrics from the stash. Even if I have to use four to six fabrics? Who cares. I certainly don't! It just helps to add charm and homemade flavor to many quilts.

Next up ...

A Little Here and a Little There from Quilty Folk

There's been a lot of hand work around here of late. It's so very calming compared to the hectic days and weeks we've been having. I know some people will say, just slow it all down, get off the fast train--it's your call how you spend your days.

Moving on to the next layer with the Melon Patch blocks
Well, and so it is. We absolutely choose to be involved {or not} with our family and friends lives, and if that creates a bit of a whirlwind of activities at times? then so be it. This ...

Slow, Plodding Progress on the 6in6 in 2018 from Quilty Folk

I only have one applique project on the go at the moment and for some reason I am very resistant to working on it. This past weekend I finally got it out and stitched five more petals. Since there are 80 in all, this didn't even make a dent. But it did serve to remind me of why I started it in the first place--the colors are just yummy...

Always Time For Play from Quilty Folk

I've been having a hard time keeping up with blogging. Must be that time of year! We finally got our heat and air system fixed so now it's easier to hand quilt in the evenings again. Oooh, it was really warm here in the house for a couple weeks!

Vintage Red getting some hand quilting done!
The Solids Challenge project got a little bit of attention this past week. Just enough to convince me that I don't have a clue about math. Somehow my triangles for the border work were cut out without any thought for the ...

Little Bits of Progress This Week from Quilty Folk

There hasn't been nearly as much hand quilting as I would like lately. Too many interruptions in our normal routine and also, I've been reading a lot more. I'm easily seduced by those 25 cent books from the senior center thrift store...

Quilty 365 in the hoop
Looking ahead to when this quilt is ready to move out of the hoop, I settled on the next quilt top in line. Then I decided that it obviously needed another border on the top and bottom. Of course it has to be applique. Never go the easy route when ...

Every Stitch Counts.... from Quilty Folk

I just couldn't stand it any longer. This quilt {Quilty 365} needed to be in the hoop and that was that. You know how it is. Once a decision is made about the next quilt-in-the-hoop, it's just seems to be time!

Next up in the hoop!
I did manage to wait until the Tree of Life quilt was ready for binding, but it was touch and go. Not that this quilt was hard to work on at all. Oh no. These colors were perfectly satisfying to have in the hoop. The binding was an interesting choice as I ...

Tree of Life in the Hoop and the Other HST Quilt in the Works from Quilty Folk

Like most other diligent hand quilters, I tend to roll straight from one quilt in the hoop to the very next. This 'Tree of Life' quilt has been calling my name lately, sort of impatiently if you want to know the truth of it. It seems to be the time

Tree of Life in the hoop
So, okay, I'm fine with working on these colors right about now. Winter is settling into it's 'Oh no! There's more snow! mode and everything is sooo cold and chilly. These colors are bright, peppy and just feel good in contrast ...

No Flu Here, Please! from Sylvia Stitches

In the Hoop Hand Sanitizer Cases

Everyday on the news, there is a report about how bad the flu is this season.  There is talk about the flu every year, but this year it seems to be much worse.  What's a worried Mom to do?  Make a little something, of course.  Can you hear the groan "Oh, Mom!" from my kids?

In the Hoop from Quilty Folk

I don't have much to show for November progress on 17ufosin2017. The eagle quilt is the only one to gain any forward motion at all, and that's only because I need my hoop time like I need to breathe. It's not by chance that this is the only quilt in the hoop at the moment. Way past time for this one to see a completion!

Assuming life would cooperate and one full hoop could be stitched each day, this quilt would be finished in just over two weeks. But we are ...

17 in 2017 Still Moving Along from Quilty Folk

Still working on the 17-ufos-in-2017. For the Peachy Cameo Medallion, I have been working on a scalloped border. Couldn't find the right border fabric and then stumbled upon this funky print in the stash. I feel in love with it not knowing how it would end up being used and so this is a surprising choice to me.

Peachy Cameo Medallion
Overall though, the entire quilt has been surprising. It seems odd to still be incorporating more red and blue into this quilt instead of branching off into other colors like usual! Still have two border units left to ...
