Monthly Sampler And More from Humble Quilts

I feel like I've been missing in action in blog land. I'm trying to squeak out as much summer fun as I can while the weather is still great!

After 4 days away in the mountains I arrived home to this lovely parcel of sampler fabrics from Two Thimbles Quilt Shop.

The fabric sampler this month is lovely and not from a specific line of fabric.
Lee is in a bit of transition closing the brick and mortar store (boohoo!) and waiting for shipments of new fabric. I'm very pleased with the fabric I received.

This is ...

Technology is GREAT!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Well, I guess you figured out by the title that I had an AWESOME day with technology. It was a fabulous day!! I love technology, and the more I learn, the better I become. Just don't mess it up!

I have to say that I'm happy with figuring out my body clock, and I'm not good if it gets messed up! Thanks to an upset tummy from Miss Murphy, I didn't get a good sleep the night before, but last night? Perfect! Hence, I was up at ridiculous o'clock (for you), and I got so ...

2021 QuiltALong coming soon! from Humble Quilts

I put a shout out last week on my Facebook group (Humble Quilts) for the name of this years quiltalong.

Land That I Love
is what I chose. Mary Thom suggested it! Whoop! Whoop! So many great suggestions.

And it can be representative of any country so it isn't exclusively an American name.
Got my binding on. This is how I usually attach my labels.

Binding sewn and quilt completed!

I told you I was going on a backpacking adventure with hubby (turned out EPIC!) but before that my son and I went on a hike last Wednesday.  I ...

Quilting and A Glamping from Humble Quilts

Ever heard of Glamping? Its a mix of camping and glamour. Inside our large tent was a bed and a lot of amenities for those who may not like to camp. It was a lovely gift from our employees.
I'd like to point out on the empty chair is the 2021 Humble Quilts quiltalong that I am hand quilting!

On our way to our weekend of glamping we hiked to Green Lakes in the Three Sisters Wilderness.
This is South Sisters which is a popular mountain to summit. (I've done it twice)

Looking the other direction is Broken ...

Zigzags and some Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

Last week, I had started making some HST blocks in navy, forest green and burgundy with tan as the light half of each HST.  At that time, I had thought I would need over 100 units to make the quilt I was making.  Turns out, I need 225 to make the quilt 15 by 15 units.  I churned out the 225 units early in the week and started playing with them. There are many possibilities for quilt designs with HST's but I decided to make  zigzags. The first 5 rows are sewn together and the part that's missing ...

Wool Applique from Humble Quilts

Lately I haven't had anything to pick up and work on in the evenings when I was home. This is an older project I started some time ago and am finally making my way back to it. I believe the backing is tobacco cloth. I feel like it does need a stabilizer since it is pretty limp. As I'm already halfway there I'll finish it as is. I know many people use SF101 to stabilize. Any thoughts on that?
This is a design by Maggie Bonanomi.

Another trek in the woods this weekend!

Burnt Lake.

Mt Hood ...

Fun on a Friday! from Humble Quilts

Here is my friend Laurie's Cousins Walk bird sampler completed! I have to say I'm struggling with the amount of muslin, but with it quilted it looks lovely.

She had it hand quilted and used silk batting.

I've never used silk. She loves the way it drapes. Do any of you have thoughts on silk batting?
I'm hoping to start getting my center together next week than I'll have the borders to applique.

I met a friend to go hiking last Sunday.

How beautiful is this view? Wow! That is Mt Hood and Laurence Lake ...

One More Quilt Shop and A Volcano from Humble Quilts

When you see this it is a sure sign of QUILT SHOP ALERT!

We followed the signs....

I kind of wish I got some of this beautiful fabric!
To remind me of this epic site!! This beach is known for the turtles to come and rest and I was super excited they were there when we were!

Quilt Passions was the name of this shop.

It was bright and cheerful with quite a few Hawaiian style samples on the walls.

It is the only quilt shop I've been to that has a room dedicated to emergency supplies!
Lots of ...

Fun on Friday! Always Fun on Friday! from Humble Quilts

There are 73 adorable little quilts at the linky party HERE. We are waiting for 5 more to arrive or people to arrive home to find their little quilt. Thank you all for following the rules and doing such a great job!

LuAnn made this adorable quilt for Debra.
This wonderful little quilt was made by Carolyn for Rose.

I was really hoping to get my bird blocks all laid out with my compass center, but we have an employee on vacation this week so I've been the fill in.
I have managed to have some fun though this ...

Hiking the Haw from Mama Spark's World

Last week we went for a 4 mile hike along the Haw river.  We saw TONS of turtles.  I think most of my photos were of turtles!!  The best find was a swamp lily growing directly in the middle of our path.  Someone hiking from the opposite direction we were going told us to keep going and we would see it.  So we continued our hike to the lily and then headed back.  I will share some of my favorite

My walk in the woods from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Another brain fart yesterday! Ronda was chatting about a recent Netflix show she watched on the US's justice (or lack thereof) system. Oh yes --- I know the story -- I just read the book. Then I proceeded to mix up TWO stories that I had recently read! Good grief! At least I remembered both stories! Oh well - we all have days like that. It doesn't change the fact that there are horrific stories about injustice and not just in one geographic location and not just against one cultural group. It's quite sad that someone's position or political ...

Productive Weekend from Humble Quilts

Over the weekend I managed to get the binding sewn on the Anniversary Quilt. It is 94x88. I'm feeling great that I am at the stage of hand sewing the binding down.

I asked Sharon to quilt in a few words and she asked if she could put in a few more. I love the up close and personal view we get when hand sewing the binding.

I got a little more machine applique done on the bird sampler, Cousin's Walk. Funny, the other night I had a great idea for a different border, but for the life ...

Welcome Spring! from Humble Quilts

I made a few quilt changes around my home to reflect the change of seasons. Down with "Let it Snow"!!
Welcome spring2021! Looking forward to a year of hope and freedom.

Liberated baskets started in a class with Gwen Marston.
A springy quilt designed by Cheri Payne.

These 2 daffodils popped out over the weekend! Great timing!!
I was out on a short local hike yesterday and heard the sweet melody of the western meadowlark.  (which happens to be Oregon's state bird) Always means spring is here!
I hope you can hear him! He is at the top of ...

Friday Frolic! from Humble Quilts

A friend sent me a box of precious blocks! These are just a handful of terrific fabric with madder. All of the blocks are pretty crispy. Any thoughts about washing? Or just piece them together as is? I didn't iron them but they look pretty accurate despite my photo!

I'm continuing lectures that had to be rescheduled from last year.

It isn't as good as real life, but it is so nice that it is possible to stay connected to quilters!

This is what we call false spring. Just a tease. The hill we were climbing was ...

Monday Muse from Humble Quilts

Here are the last 8 birds on the Cousin's Walk Bird Sampler.  (out of print, not available any longer)

I'm machine appliqueing and doing one color at a time. I'm down to red and green.

Hubby and I took a day trip to the Yakima area to check out a hike for a possible future backpacking trip. It snowed a good part of the 3 1/2 hours there, which should have been an indication of how our day was going.

Beautiful views but hardly a tree in sight, Supposedly there is one somewhere called birdsong tree ...

Monday Muse from Humble Quilts

Happy Monday. Superbowl was a bit of a blow out and this year was the first we didn't have an all out party. I don't feel like I missed a thing.

I got happy mail last week!

I want to make an effort to support some of my favorite small businesses this year. One of them is Two Thimble Quilt Shop owned by my friend Lee. I needed a gift and so last month I ordered a reproduction fabric roll, one for me and one for a friend. Sometimes I get tired of seeing the same fabric in ...

Mid Week Check In from Humble Quilts

How's everyone doing? Winter has come to Central Oregon! More snow and very cold temps are the name of the game right now.

I picjked up this lovely lady in Ohio several years ago.

I love everything about her! I had my friend, Kat, send it because there was no way I could check it or carry her on. She was worth it!

I don't get to see my daughter often enough, especially with the covid bs. She is a hairdresser and is being responsible about exposure and she gets the same from her clients. We were able ...

Wednesday Tidbits from Humble Quilts

For those of you who inquired about the quilt I am working on, here it is.

If you do not have this book, Jan reprinted the pattern and it is available on her website HERE.

As I look forward to completing the applique on the final border I also start considering my backing.

This is my preliminary sketch of my backing. I do plan on having this machine quilted so am adding 8" to both sides to accommodate.  As you can see this is inaccurate but gives me a visual of what I'll need to do.
This is a ...

Multifarious Monday from Humble Quilts

I'm going to start this post with one more challenge quilt.

Here is Sandra's description. (the bow tie top center was the block she got in Houston from me)

I just finished the top I designed after you let me choose an antique block when I was at the Houston quilt show with my mom last year. I just have to figure out the border now.

For the fabrics, I decided to go with the inspirations I got at the show. I picked up some wonderful vintage fabrics from a stall at the show, and I just loved ...
