The Saddest March Ever… from Quilting Studio Adventures

My brother Doug was 15 years younger than me, and he died March 19.  He was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer in July 2020.  We knew his death would likely happen before the rest of us.  Still, the impact of his passing is profound. While sewing rhythm was disrupted with visits, it picked up speed during his final days while my brother and sister, along with Doug’s wife, daughter and friends, tended his bedside. The studio became a guest room.  For future reference, I am not very good bedside.

I was thankful I had this project - a Sloan ...

A Hexagonal Diversion from Quilting Studio Adventures

And what a difference  lighting makes!  The first pic is all the parts on the design wall.  The second one is the bits all connected.  This low volume quilt is 58” x 68”. In the next few days before pin-basting, I’ll decide whether to put an outer border on to make  it just a wee bit bigger. Many of these prints  I’ve been saving.  What for? I think about the short story “Everyday Use” by Alice Walker.  And then I’m happy to be using some of these interesting fabrics in a way that pleases my eye.  I ...

2022 Christmas Countdown - The Candy Man quilt from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's Day 19 of my Christmas Countdown and it's The Candy Man quilt.

A few weeks ago I blogged about a spur of the moment Christmas quilt I had started.  Well, now it's finished and all ready to be used this Christmas.

The pattern (Watling Street) was designed by Sheila Christensen and is in her book, Quilts with an Angle.  I made my quilt smaller because I only had a limited number of scrappy Christmas fabrics in my stash.  Can you believe I made a whole quilt from stash? Even the backing and the binding? Well I ...

A Little Christmas Quilt from Wendy's Quilts and More

I hadn't planned to start anything new before Christmas, but when I was pulling out Christmas quilts to  show Wellington Quilters last week, I realised that I could do with a couple more small Christmas quilts to use as table runners.

So I checked what I had in my stash and found these fabrics:

They're not all especially "Christmas" but they are red and green and that says Christmas to me.

Surprisingly I settled on a pattern quite quickly, and was cutting and piecing within an hour of pulling the fabrics.

I made as many blocks as I ...

Prettiest Quilt Shop, Crocheted Hexagon Blanket, Plaid Tilda Flimsy, Strawberry Season from Canadian Needle Nana

Remember I shared with you I had taken a fall last month? It is mostly better; I still feel a twinge when I lie on my left side a certain way. I must have bruised a muscle there. I mention this again because it reminded me about a blog I used to follow faithfully, the Carolina Stitcher. Faye, back in 2019, took a very bad fall which broke her arm in two places and shattered her elbow. Her son gave several updates on her blog but then nothing. Just wonder what happened to her. Anybody know??  As for myself, I ...
