concrete garden quilt from Charm About You

I am over the moon with this finish! It's been a long time coming... it began it's life in 2016 when I created the central hexagon and my wonderful Bee A Brit Stingy friends made bee blocks. They each made a square and a triangle block. My brief as 'queen bee' was asking them to use the background fabric I sent, along with a mix of cheery fabrics and create geometric blocks for the squares and triangle blocks made up of triangles.

The starting point for all our bee blocks was a central panel in the shape of ...

Pandemic Porch Quilt Show, Days 54 - 55: Hands for Grandma, Grandma's Hands from Gefilte Quilt

On Day 55, I hung two baby-related quilts that date back to the 1990s - and the one on the right was inspired by a quilt 140 years older than that!
First, a nap quilt I made for my son, when I'd done very little applique, and wanted to dip my toe in the water. The flowers are raw-edge appliqued, with zigzag stitches to contain the fraying. The leaves were straight-stitch machine-appliqued, so their edges are nicely frayed.
Amazingly, the flowers and even their hand-embroidered centers have held up well over the years.

The second quilt was made from my ...

Almost Ancient: English Paper Pieced Mosaics with Cheryl Lynch's New Fabric from Gefilte Quilt

My newest finished piece!
It's a tabletopper or wallhanging, about 20" across, made up of seven English Paper Pieced (EPP) blocks. The faux mosaic fabric - those little pieces aren't separate, they're printed - are from a fascinating new collection by my friend, quilt designer Cheryl Lynch.

In recent years, Cheryl's been designing mosaic quilt patterns, made by cutting fabrics into small pieces. But even more recently, she designed fabric with the look of complex mosaics - but you can finish in a fraction of the time.

Cheryl gifted me with these FQs.

First I cut out a bunch ...

Pandemic Porch Quilt Show Launch! from Gefilte Quilt

This idea isn't original to me - hanging a different quilt outside every day to entertain pandemic walkers. A quilter friend in Louisiana did it first - I saw from her posts that she and her neighbors were enjoying it. Then I heard about members of a quilt guild in Northern California, who showed off their quilts at the same time, so folks could follow a map to visit them.

Even then I might not have bothered, because hanging a quilt is a schlep! But then I needed to bring my hanging rack into our house's front room, for a ...

Turning Lines Into Circles for Curved English Paper Piecing from Gefilte Quilt

What do these English Paper Pieced blocks from my new book, "Hexagon Star Quilts," have in common?
Answer: They're all straight lines. I've always been curve-averse, and although I've done plenty of English Paper Piecing in recent years, almost everything I've made with the technique has had straight lines only.

But quarantine is an opportunity to try new things (assuming you don't have an essential job, young children, and/or a sourdough fixation). So a couple of weeks ago, I plunged into curved EPP in a big way. It turned out to be mostly easier ...

WIP from Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

It's hump day

I have so many WIP's right now there's not enough time in the day to work on them. I really need to get busy.

Which I'm trying.

Here is a WIP I started 3 years ago

This is the first diamond I've worked on this year.
I had a bag of the hexies with some fabric that I needed to be able to work more on this quilt.

And for the life of me I could not find it anywhere, I thought I could of lost it last October when I took ...

Masked Hexagons, Part II: A English Paper Piecing Variation from Gefilte Quilt

Help!

I'm going nuts making masks!

These are a few of my new masked hexagons, made from the scraps of face masks I've been sewing since March. In my last installment, here, I described how I made these hexies, using conventional English Paper Piecing techniques. At the time, I had only made about 35 hexagons.

Since then, I've made many more masks to donate - I'm closing in on 1,000 masks - and about 40 more masked hexagons. So here's the finished quilt, with a total of 73 masked hexagons, all socially distanced. My free, revised ...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: hexagon from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

"23 ideas vintage quilting antiques flowers garden for 2019 #garden #flowers #vintage #quilting

Everything old is new again." Have you heard that cliche'? It seems to be especially true these days with the idea of "farmhouse" decor. Now, I won't get into what real farmhouses used to have (and as I was raised in one and knew many families who lived in a true farm house) but it seems that old stuff is popular stuff. If, that is, the "old stuff" is newly made. Haha. A little confusing, no? To me, the best thing about it all is that the cliche' is sort of true: old things have value again. One ...

this, that, and everything in between . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Looking back, it's been a fairly busy week/weekend!  It started snowing Tuesday afternoon, and continued well into the evening, giving us a full inch of pretty ground covering . . .
Coming into the camp.  It took me ninety minutes to get home from work on Tuesday evening!
It was still pretty the next morning, too!

Wednesday I finished up the binding on the last of the Christmas quilts . . .
Three little lap quilts, all with their binding neatly stitched up! Ijust need to pop labels on them.

Thursday we had our annual Christmas Open House at work.  I enjoy getting things ...
