This UFO can finally be checked off my list too. These string blocks are made with a muslin foundation block and a black center. All of the fabrics are from my scrap bin except the black centers. I'll be mailing this top off to the Heartstrings project and let another volunteer do the quilting or tie it, before passing it along to a deserving charity.

Finally spent a little time working on a UFO last night. Unfortunately, that UFO list is not shrinking like I had hoped it would.
I pulled out the Heart Strings blocks I made over the fall and winter and put them all together into pairs. Then I put the pairs together into a square of 4 with the black center strips forming a diamond. Two of those units are done and the rest are ready. This top will be sent to the Heart Strings project to be tied or quilted, and then donated. It is the second one I've ...
Finally got some sewing time in today and one of the things I finished was the set of 24 string blocks. These will be sewn together and the top will be donated to the Heartstrings project. Getting them sewn into a top and mailed will be one of my March UFO goals, unless I manage to get it done before then.
These all have a black center and mostly bright fabric strings from my scrap bin.

Regular readers of my blog know I was expecting a very special delivery yesterday. All day long my doorbell never rang. At 4:00 my husband came home from school and said there's a box on the front porch. A teeny box.
After a glass of wine to calm down, I dug out my huge string bin (21" x 17 ... read more

HeartStrings had a New Year's weekend challenge. I made 52 blocks with purple centers. I assembled 48 of them on New Year's Eve.
Easy Street, Step 7....it's coming together!
And now, on to business:
This is the fifteenth year that I have kept track of the fabric I've acquired and used. Counting acquisition is easy. Counting use is trickier. I count the square inches in each block (e.g. a 9-patch made from 3" squares is ((3"x3)x3) = 27 ... read more

"Round up and trim down" is my preferred method for making half-square triangles (or, more accurately, triangle-squares). The trimming was always tedious: press open, cut two or three or sometimes four times to square up the unit. I'm grateful to Nancie V. for introducing me to Eleanor Burns' Triangle Square Up Ruler. The trimming is done prior to pressing. Two cuts, every time.
