Trying It On For Size... from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's officially fall; the leaves are turning color and falling with a fury, the big yellow school buses are slowing down traffic twice a day again and it's time for new classes. I haven't been out raking yet and I do my best to avoid running errands when school is starting or dismissing but I am enrolled in new classes, two to be exact; the new Blocks-of-the Month at our LQS. I haven't quilted up

Hannes from From the Strawberry Patch...

This is the post that I hoped to never write; a tribute to our dear canine companion of eighteen years. Hannes crossed the Rainbow Bridge on Saturday morning; before he passed, I stroked him and reminded him of all of his friends and playmates waiting to greet him when he got to the other side. Those of you who've been longtime readers here will remember that Hannes was a frequent contributor to

The Best Diversions from From the Strawberry Patch...

We've had some diversions from our normal routines this week, the best kind, an overnight visit from these two. Since they're currently being home schooled we were able to take an active part in that and even added some enrichment activities as well! At break time we played a rip-roaring game of Sequence and took a field trip to a local park for some exercise, fresh air and sunshine; the weather

Grinding to a Halt from From the Strawberry Patch...

You might not think this looks very appetizing, but that's okay; Hannes does. At seventeen and a half years young our resident canine companion has become VERY picky about his eating. Sometimes he's interested; but, more often than not, he takes a sniff and slowly walks away.  It's hard, if not impossible, to find something that he likes; is healthy, and easy enough for him to chew on a daily

In Search of Sunshine from From the Strawberry Patch...

We took a little drive last week in an effort to escape to the sunshine and some warmer temperatures; we found both! It was a quick trip; and, believe it or not, I scarcely can, there wasn't even ONE quilt shop stop along the way. I'm not sure what that says about me,

A Day To Catch Up from From the Strawberry Patch...

I needed a catch-up day, not to be confused with a ketchup day- see yesterday's post and below; but I digress- things have been piling up around here and it was high time to get back to basic tasks that had been put off for one reason or another.  Hannes joined me in the sewing room for a good stretch of time yesterday, something that he hasn't done in months. Mr. Goodneedle was using a big

"Out, I Say!" from From the Strawberry Patch...

You'll enjoy this tale of my abject frustration over this latest incident. On Saturday afternoon I walked around the longarm and saw this horrible, offensive spot on the area rug in the sewing room (circled in white). Immediately thinking that Hannes had either an "accident" or had been sick to his stomach, I ran to the cupboard for rags and the Resolve carpet cleaner. I scrubbed and scrubbed to

A Quick Escape from From the Strawberry Patch...

I'm back! Are these the largest doors that you've ever seen? They might be for me, where to do you think that these doors lead?  What's behind them? Think of animals marching two by two. Yes, Mr. Goodneedle and I made a winter escape to Kentucky and the Ark!Built in Williamstown in 2016 to Biblical specifications the proportions of this Ark are every bit as awe-inspiring as you might think. There

New Year, New Quilter from From the Strawberry Patch...

Gregory and his Star Wars quilt topOur two local grandchildren have had an extra week off from school this week. Gregory (and his sister) spent the day with us yesterday and helped us to un-decorate the house. There's something about packing away the trees and all the decorations that makes everything look so bare and wide-open; it's sort of a clean sweep and re-examination of spaces that, just

Closing In... from From the Strawberry Patch...

Even with a slower, more intentional, approach to Christmas (without the hosting and toasting) this year, the days still rush by at the same pace and all of a sudden it's "go" time. There are cookies to be baked and traditions to be upheld. The sugar cookies and almond cookies are on our  Mr. G's "must have" list, as they have been every year. The sewing room has temporarily been converted into
