do. Good Stitches from Kat & Cat Quilts

No big finishes this week, but I did get two months worth of do. Good Stitches blocks done.  Based on how long it took me to do these I think that's worth a post!  As most of you probably have heard me say before, I've been a member of the Nurture circle since 2013 and the circle has been supporting Covered in Love since 2015.

Dhia asked for red and grey star blocks for February using the Moda Love pattern.  We each made 2 which finish at 12.5". Boy did these contain a lot of tiny pieces ...

Ready for Spring from Kat & Cat Quilts

Some bright colors this week to help lure in Spring. Can you believe it's March already? It has been raining in Texas since September and I am so ready for some sunshine!  The new March/April CiL block drive just went live and it's a Spring theme as well, so be sure to check that out.

How's this for bright? Jeanine sent in two stack of blue string blocks last Fall, the first of which became this top.

Next, Dhia sent in this quilt she finished from blocks made by the Nurture circle of do. Good Stitches ...

Bright and Scrappy Love-Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello and Happy Weekend!  I finished a bunch of quilts in the past couple weeks to share with you.  This first one came as a top from Bonnie and I finished it with donated backing and binding.

I love how all the scrappy stars have different centers, some with itty-bitty squares and different designs.

Next, this scrappy and very floral top from Paula. (Paula previously sent in some pretty tops before.)  Again, I finished it with some generously donated backing and binding!  I didn't take a good picture of the backing, but it's a mix of very pretty ...

CiL Quilt Stars from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy weekend! Isn't this quilt nice? Dhia put it together from blocks the NURTURE circle quilters of do. Good Stitches made.  The peach/pink/grey/navy color scheme turned out fantastic.  The Nurture circle has been supporting Covered in Love for about 3 years now.

Next, Mina sent in another of her scrappy village quilt tops, fifth one this year. These quilts are great because there are so many surprises hiding in the scrappy fabrics.

I backed it with some bright fabrics from Sandra and finished it with a stipple.

Finally, Kathy sent along a finished scrap quilt of ...

Got the Blues (in a good way) from Kat & Cat Quilts

PSA: If you need my address to send blocks for Covered in Love please email CoveredinLoveTx@gmail.com. Or if you want me to contact you please leave you email address in your comment. Many of you are "no-reply" bloggers and I cannot respond to your comments. Thanks!

Three blue quilts for Covered in Love this week. Holly sent in this large, fun quilt top and backing.  It's something like 80"x60" so it will be perfect for covering a grieving family.

binding by Nicki ;)

Next, Louise sent in this finished quilt which was made sewing-bee style by my ...

A Good Read from Kat & Cat Quilts

Happy Friday! I've got another do. Good Stitches quilt for my finish this week. The NURTURE circle makes quilts for Covered in Love and January was my turn to be the "queen bee".

I asked the ladies to each make 2 bookshelf blocks, making a total to 20 blocks.  The books are made from all different fabrics and the spines are decorated with ribbon, decorative stitches, and selvedges.

I put the blocks together with brown sashing to make the shelves and was pleased I still remember how to FMQ wood grain when it came time to quilt!

There are ...

Good Stitchers from Kat & Cat Quilts

A couple more new Nurture circle (do. Good Stitches) quilts were in the latest delivery to the hospital.  These quilts are made by me and nine other ladies in monthly sewing-bee style.

We each made one block from this tutorial. I remember that I counted up each block had over 100 pieces in it. This bright little quilt was put together and quilted by Jenny and she did a beautiful job, especially with the quilting!

Covered in Love is doing great and growing by leaps and bounds.  With the increased number of quilts coming in we are able to serve ...

Cat Houses from Kat & Cat Quilts

I normally reserve Friday posts for finished quilts, but these paper pieced blocks for my do. Good Stitches circle deserve a mention!

(My homemade starch was mixed too strong, so there are some white splotches that will wash out)

Our circle makes paper pieced blocks about once or twice a year.  Some members enjoy it more than others... I admit to being a reluctant paper piecer.  (But, I once inflicted the most tedious paper pieced blocks of all time on them, so I really don't have any room to complain!)

This block was Briawna's choice; you can find ...

Freebie Quilts from Kat & Cat Quilts

I can't take any credit for either one of these quilts! They came to my house all ready to go.

Unfortunately I do have to take credit for the less than stellar photos. They were taken during a break in our recent monsoon-like weather.  This butterfly quilt was made by Louise from fabrics donated by Sandra, among others. Louise kindly volunteered to piece some quilts from donated fabrics and this is her third.

The next quilt is another NURTURE circle do. Good Stitches quilt.  This one was made over last summer while I was out of pocket, so Tricia ...

NURTURE circle Square Stars from Kat & Cat Quilts

The Square Stars quilt that the NURTURE circle ladies made is finally done!  The ladies made these blocks back in October and I assembled and quilted them.

It's taken this long because I decided first to make the quilt larger with some blank blocks, and then to do a more complicated quilting design.

I did some stitch in the ditch first (actually it's more like stitch around the ditch, but who's looking that close).  Then I filled in the white crosses with a tight stipple and continued that into negative space.

With the tight stipple I could ...

A Perfect Bee Block from Kat & Cat Quilts

Not that my block is perfect, it definitely isn't, but I think this block design is an ideal bee block!

Jenny chose this for our January block for my do. Good Stitches group; you can find the tutorial here.  We made the 16" blocks, which use a 2" square as their base.  With 104 pieces per block making one of these by myself would take a few years and cost sanity and possibly lives. Making just one block is fun, making a dozen poses a danger to myself and others. You get the point :)

And check out the beautiful ...

Pretty Enough for a Man (in Brown) from Kat & Cat Quilts

Hello all! I'm making the most of the last days of my Christmas break, gotta face reality and go back to school next week ;(

This brown manly quilt top was sent in by Sandra for Covered in Love. This lovely top was HAND PIECED! I wish I had gotten better pictures of the fabrics.  It's just a simple rectangle setting, but some of the fabrics are beautiful.

This large quilt will be perfect for a man.  Since it's hand pieced I quilted it quite densely.  I bound it in blue to bring out the blues in some ...

What are Cats Even For? from Kat & Cat Quilts

Moo is such a good sport.  I'm sure he doesn't understand why boyfriend and I found this so hilarious, but he tolerated it for a couple minutes anyway. (Don't worry, he was rewarded liberally with pets and treats).

Meanwhile Rory is earning her keep as a quilt-weight, holding down a stack of Scrappy Susannah quilts I've quilted but not bound.  She's like a paper-weight, but for holding down quilts.  Mostly just decorative, but if you ever need to justify why you have one you can say, "Well, she's holding down my quilts, see?"

On ...

Sew Some Love from Kat & Cat Quilts

Welcome to the Sew Some Love linkup!  Please link-up any post about a project you're sewing for charity.

Before my eye surgery last week I got September's do. Good Stitches block sewn up.  Briawna asked for these fun string pieced blocks.

If you've ever thought about joining up with do. Good Stitches I know several circles, including mine, are in need of new members.  It's a lot of fun and I highly recommend it!

Covered in Love has been so blessed by donations from quilters, I want you all to see what each other have going ...

Sew Some Love from Kat & Cat Quilts

Welcome to the Sew Some Love linkup!  Please link-up any post about a project you're sewing for charity.

The NURTURE circle (do. Good Stitches) quilters have been busy lately and the quilts have been coming in! I posted two quilts just a couple weeks ago and now have two more.

This cool scrappy star quilt was assembled and quilted by Kat C. and she did a great job. I love the colors she chose! The pattern is the Casual Link block from Twiggy and Opal.  Another version of this quilt might be in my future; I have wanted to ...
