~ First Finish For 2019 ~ from Podunk Pretties

This weekend was a working weekend.  I spent the entire time cleaning and rearranging the Podunk Studio.  My intentions were to move everything out, sweep and mop, dust and organize.  Once things started getting shifted around I thought what the heck lets just rearrange it all!  Then one thing lead to another and I forgot about photographing the Good Fortune quilt.  Mr. Podunk loves this quilt.  So much so that I couldn't find it this morning to take pictures.  With the house being a disaster due to my studio project I thought I had misplaced it.  Searching everywhere but ...

Peacock Party from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's time for another Peacock Party where you can link up and share what you've been up to.

I've finally managed to get the HTML sorted so you can put a Peacock Party badge on your blog if you wish.  The code is in the sidebar on the right hand side of the screen, just below the Peacock Party image.  You can copy it into an HTML gadget on your blog and the badge should appear and link to my blog.  Let me know if you have any problems!

A big thank you to Yvonne Quilting Jet ...

~ Virtual Quilt Show and Quilting Video ~ from Podunk Pretties

Most of yesterday was spent quilting on the frame.  I can't wait to show you the finished quilt tomorrow.  Until then how about a little quilt show of my warmer colored quilts.   Yes I work with warmer colors on occasion.  At one time it was my pallet of choice.  Most of you know me for my cool happy colors.  Some have even said my quilts look like they belong to a little girl.  I'll take that as a compliment since I'm knocking on the door of 50 yrs old and have 4 grand children.  This granny didn ...

~ My Reveal of Good Fortune ~ from Podunk Pretties

First off I would like to thank sweet Miss Bonnie for sharing her talent with the online quilting community.  As a designer I know how much time and effort goes into every design.  From start to finish its hours of making sure you have dotted every"I" and crossed every "T".  Miss Bonnie is honest and true to the art of quilting.  She breaks the rules and that's why she is loved by many, including myself.  I've read every blog post she has ever written and I now own every book as well.  I think her honesty is ...

June's Home and Hearth Log Cabin from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

I just finished this custom beauty for June.  First I'll show the pictures then a little bit on how we collaborated on the quilting design and the tools used.  There were things flying everywhere in the studio with this one!  Templates, rulers, stencils, marking tools, manila folders, all of it all over all the time, what fun! You can find June Bacchi on Facebook for more info on the wonderful quilt.  This one has two layers of batting, Hobbs wool on top, heirloom 80/20 on the bottom. Glide 40 wt thread on top and 60 wt in the ...

Good fortune - Part 7 - The Reveal from Wendy's Quilts and More

Yes, Bonnie has revealed the final layout of the Good Fortune mystery quilt so now we all know what we are aiming for.  Here's mine so far.  Isn't it going to be great?

This is going to be the most traditional quilt I've ever made.  Although Bonnie designed it with memories of her trip to China in mind, it seems very American to me because of the traditional layout of the traditional blocks.  However, my version is very scrappy, and includes a lot of low volume prints, so I'm sort of hoping mine will appear less ...

~ Take a Closer Look ~ from Podunk Pretties

Things have been moving along rather quickly in the studio.  At one point I'm pretty sure I saw smoke coming out of the back of the sewing machine.  But then again it could be the smudges on my glasses.  How does this happen?  I don't remember touching the lenses when I took them off.

Maybe the dirty eyeglasses is what caused this big piecing blunder.  Not just one but 4 units just like the one circled below.  Geesh....I blame the glasses.  But how do they keep getting so dirty?  I took them off, laid them on the ...

~ Good Fortune, Clue 6 ~ from Podunk Pretties

Hello Quilting Friends!  Can you believe it's been almost a week since I last stepped foot in the Studio?  So now it's time to play catch up with my Good Fortune Clues 5 and 6.  Thank goodness Clue 6 is fairly small.   I should be able to make all of the units without cutting into my yardage.

Some of the creamy scraps are about 20 years old while others are a little more recent.  But they all play nicely together.  The cherry fabric on the left side of the picture below is one of favorite prints.  You all ...

Dennielle's Yankee Diary - fresh off the frame from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

Sigh.....big Sigh Christmas shenanigans are done!!  Loved every minute with my crazy family.  Individually they a bundle of energy each, get them in one room and it all grows exponentially!  It was a wonderful day.  I was able to sneak down to the long arm and get a few stitches in before everyone got here.  Pulled off this beauty from the frame.

This is Dennielle's Yankee Diary, you can find her on Facebook at Louanna Mary Quilt Design and on Instagram Denniele Bohannon.  The pattern is Barbara Brackman Yankee Liberty - it was a block of the month in ...

Good Fortune - Part 5 from Wendy's Quilts and More

There hasn't been much quilting at my house this week because we've been celebrating Christmas.  My visitors left this afternoon and I've spent the last few hours making some blocks for Part 5 of Bonnie Hunter's Good Fortune mystery quilt (before the new clue gets released overnight).

I love how the blue and yellow look together.  It reminds me of an Adidas track suit I had growing in Dunedin. Blue and gold are Otago's colours!

It's a beautiful day here and we've got the doors and windows open and cricket going on the ...

~ My Goodness Clue 5! ~ from Podunk Pretties

Well we are moving along at lightening speed!  The Good Fortune Mystery by Bonnie Hunter of Quiltville is one of the best quilt along's of the year.  I like it because it moves fast.  No messing around for a year like most BOM's, mystery or quilt along's.  So this week I may get a tad behind due to the holiday festivities.  No worries there's plenty of time next week to catch up.  I'll be making most of my units using a technique not mentioned by Bonnie.  This weeks clue/unit has several different names.  Bonnie ...

Adelina's emotionally charged quilt - Hope from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

I finished Adelina's quilt this week.  It's everything a quilt should be, beautiful colors, wonderful pattern and filled with so much loved.  I just want to take a couple of minutes to tell the story of the quilt and I hope you will be as moved by me. This quilt was made by Adelina for a young woman named Abby.   Adelina's known Abby for a very long time, her son went to grade school with Abby's brother and the two of them are still friends.  Abby's a senior in high school, she's active in ...

Good Fortune - Part 4 from Wendy's Quilts and More

The weeks are flying by in this Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt.  We've just had week 4 and I think we've used all the colours now.

I enjoyed using my orange and yellows this week.  I decided to go very scrappy, and used up some of those fabrics that I never know how to classify.  Are they orange? Do the other colours stand out too much? Never, mind, I threw them all into the mix this time.

My little collection of pieced blocks is looking good. I'm keen to find out how these pieces will all fit together ...

~ Road Trips ~ from Podunk Pretties

So there I was in my jammies drinking my morning coffee waiting confidently for Clue 4 of the Good Fortune Mystery by Bonnie Hunter.  I was ready.  Fabrics pressed, rotary cutter sharp, sewing machine threaded, extra bobbins wound and the iron hot and ready.  This will be an epic sewing day.  Sewing all day to complete this weeks clue in record time.  And then it happened, the moment we've all been waiting for....THE CLUE IS POSTED!!  Whoohoo!  Scroll past the opening statements of the blog post to see what fun is in store for me today.  BAM ...

The Day After from Pinkadot Quilts

Yesterday was my birthday and it was a busy day. I wanted to try and get all my blocks for the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt called, Good Fortune done but it didn't happen. Today clue number 4 was released and I am feeling the pressure! They look to be easier so I think I will be caught up soon.

In some ways this is a good way to work on any scrap quilt. Sewing  them into "bite size" pieces and giving yourself a deadline, makes it go pretty fast. You can go at your own pace but then it ...

Good Fortune - Part 3 from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's week 3 of Bonnie Hunter's Good Fortune mystery quilt and we're making green chevrons.  I'm not as far along as I was on the previous two clues, but that's OK, because it's a very busy time of the year and I always knew I might not be able to keep up.

This week we made chevrons (and some bonus HSTs from the off cuts).  I'm certainly learning some new tips and tricks from Bonnie's instructions.  She has provided instructions for multiple ways to make each of the clues released to date ...

~ Good Fortune ~ Part 3 ~ from Podunk Pretties

Yeah! Chevrons!  Don't you just love the clue for this week?!  We get to use the green, which I love, even though my green is the color of spinach. (that makes more sense if you read yesterdays post)  Okay I'll agree these can be kinda tricky.  But this is doable.  The fist thing we need to do is... believe we can do it.  You know the story of the little engine that could?!....LOL!  It really is that simple.  You need to believe you can do it before you can do it.  A little positive energy goes a ...

~ In the Studio all Weekend ~ from Podunk Pretties

Happy Monday Quilty Friends!   This weekend started out as a no quilting weekend.  We planned to install the new floor in my office.  As you can see that didn't happen.  Instead I spent the entire weekend happily playing in the Studio.  With my weekend wide open I was able to finish Clue 3 of the Good Fortune Mystery by Bonnie Hunter that was released on Friday.

I was surprised how quick these were to make. Not drawing all those lines really helped cut down on the time.  It's a little different than any of Bonnie's suggestions.  If ...

Good Fortune - Part 2 from Wendy's Quilts and More

It's the second week of Bonnie Hunter's Good Fortune mystery quilt.

This week we made blue and white half square triangles.

Blue is probably my favourite colour, so I had a lots of blues in my stash to chose from.

After seeing all that red dye last week, I decided to prewash the blues too.

I also had a number of low volume prints with hints of blue on them, so I've used up some of them too.

I prefer to make my half square triangles (HST) by cutting squares 1" bigger than the finished size of ...
