seeing stars from Making A Lather

This is as far as I have gotten to a finish with this Bonnie Hunter quilt ufo, that, I started before she printed the pattern. I didn't like her version (xing) from string frenzy, so it was time to decide how to finish it. I have a vintage red fabric, I want for the borders.

I have bonnie Hunter quilt zuckerwatte from her book string fling. on the frame to quilt. So I may have a finish next week.

floating stars top from Making A Lather

I added the same blue as the setting triangles to finish the top of floating stars. This is my one monthly goal for April. It needs backing, and, binding, and, a turn on the longarm. Hopefully, this will be another ufo done this month. I am sneaking it in between other people's quilts. If I didn't, I would never have finishes.

I am trying to make 2 easy breezy blocks each morning. It's easier after I cut a lot of squares from scraps. I cut a stack of the background pieces as well. I will work through ...

Variety is the Spice of Life from Appalachian Quilts

We are still in the process of remodeling....Hubs finished his bathroom and mine is gutted.  Tile is laid and grouted.  Putting the tile around my tub is next.  Our house hasn't been updated since it was built in the 70s.  EVERY house we have lived in - we have remodeled.  It seems like we just get them finished and we have had to move.  *sigh*  Between job transfers, Pops getting sick, etc. there has always been something.  This little farm is supposed to be our retirement home.  We started with the outside because that was important to us.  Through ...

zucherwatte quilt top from Making A Lather

I was excited to find a favorite border fabric already in my stash. It is such a favorite that, I immediately made plans to replace the fabric. haha will I ever have less fabric?. I guess I have a thing for polka dots and just this color of pink.

I found a large pink sheet that I will use for the back. And, now I can add one more quilt to the others waiting to be quilted. My list is growing.

Feeding the OCD Beast from Appalachian Quilts

I spent Saturday longarming in the shop.  Truth be told, I couldn't wait to get the quilt that was on the allover machine done so that I could put my Vacation Houses quilt on there.  I had an allover in mind.  I had been eyeing this allover for a while waiting for the 'right' quilt to put it on.  Finally I finished the beast of a quilt, got the customer invoice done and was ready to load my little quilt on there.  I just didn't want it to end up in the UFO pile for you to read ...

snow and stars from Making A Lather

Like everyone else in middle America, we have snow. Our county received 9 inches overnight. It was beautiful and fluffy everywhere. And the prediction is for more over the weekend.

What a great opportunity to sew uninterrupted. I feel for those without power. Although, I have a people powered treadle machine, light to see by, requires electricity. And, our water is a well and pump that also needs electricity. We have had power. So, I have the border on Boxy stars. This is an older UFO from 2016. And ...

Vacation Houses from Appalachian Quilts

With all this crazy weather, we can all dream about vacations right?  We can dream about sitting on the beach with our toes in the sand watching the tide come up just far enough to tickle our feet, then rushing back from whence it came.  We can dream about the smell of suntan lotion or the rays of the sun kissing our skin just enough to give us a golden glow.  We can dream about that drink in our hand with the little umbrella floating off to the side - I'm thinking sweet tea with lemon.  We can dream....

I ...

baby flannel from Making A Lather

I had a jelly roll of flannel, that, I have moved from place to place, until, I was tired of it. I decided I would just use the treadle at night to do a baby quilt with it. It wasn't supposed to be an official project. I was just sewing the strips together. But, it was across the couch for awhile, until, I was tired of it. The only way I could put it away, was to get it ready for quilting. geesh

It wasn't very big, so it just had to have borders. These are not the ...

Orion's Star from Appalachian Quilts

I still am of the opinion that Eleanor Burns (Quilt in a Day) has some of the easiest directions out there.  We've taught a lot of her classes and have had her trunk shows in the shop more than once.  While she does 'waste' some fabric, she makes it easy for a beginner quilter to accomplish intermediate construction.  I've met her at several shows and she is NOTHING like she is on her TV show.  She is the kindest, sweetest person ever, but she doesn't have that 'baby talk' voice in real life that sends my Hubs ...

shine quilt top from Making A Lather

We had a wind advisory last week, and this, is what we found. This wasn't the part of the tree that we had been worried about splitting. I clean up from retreat and hubby cleans up outside. Four of our dead ash trees in the back blew down as well.

Hubby has been busy trying to clean  the area. We were grateful it didn't fall in the road.

I finished the shine top from this year's rainbow scrap challenge project. This was a great block and easy enough to do, and, it uses a jelly roll or ...

Pride & Glory from Appalachian Quilts

I wanted to have this one up for Veteran's Day, but my binding fingers just weren't fast enough.  When I was quilting Gilly's Stars and Stripes, I was thinking 'this quilt doesn't look like what I remember it looking like'.  Ummm, that's because I was thinking of a different quilt!  I had totally forgotten about that one and was thinking of this one when I thought about that allover design.  Funny thing is -- this runner hasn't been hanging up for a long time.  It's relatively newer.  They say the first thing to go ...

In the Meadow from Appalachian Quilts

Don't you just love a good "A-Ha" moment?  You know the one....you are going about your day and an idea just smacks you upside the head.  I love them!

I had just finished doing a snowflake allover design on a customer's Christmas quilt when I looked over at the flimsie rack.  This little guy was over there whispering for me to come get him off the rack.  After some cRaZy negotiating, he convinced me he didn't want to wait to be custom quilted.  He wanted to just have snowflakes.  I was a pretty easy mark, as ...

Batik Bowtie Quilt from Appalachian Quilts

Yup - I finished another UFO!  This was a class I taught - I'm pretty sure it was one of our mystery quilts.  I miss those Friday Night Mystery Quilt nights!  We had so much fun.  Usually, we brought potluck.  Class started at 6 and went until midnight-ish.  The best part of it was the fellowship.  Why does this virus have to take away our fellowship?  *sigh*

I do love batiks.  I go back and forth between traditional and batiks when it comes to fabric.  I think that's why we stock so many.  (We have hundreds of bolts in stock ...

Lemon Zest from Appalachian Quilts

There was a trend years ago where everyone was making mason jar quilts.  This image was taken from Google.  (I chose one with the website listed to give credit to the maker/designer.)

The fabric designers came up with some great fruit and vegetable prints and everyone was out gathering fabric to make their quilt.  We brought some of them in for our customers.  To help our customers see beyond the mason jar quilt, we made a few samples.

This one is called Lemon Zest.  I just quilted and bound it.  It's another flimsie/UFO that is now finished ...

frolic is a top? from Making A Lather

The top for quiltville frolic mystery quilt is finished as per the pattern. And, I was ready to quilt it. I realized, if I add borders, it would be bigger for a bed.
I didn't plan on going bigger, but, it seems an off - size this way.
It stalls until I make a decision.

When I took to quilting in earnest, borders were my least favorite part of the process. I left many almost finished quilts in the ufo pile to avoid borders. I had to decide how to fix that problem. It wasn't easy, but, I can ...

As Ye Sew... from From the Strawberry Patch...

...so shall ye RIP! Outer blocks with brown setting, slated for removal. You might remember, if you've been reading about my progress with the Temecula Quilt Co.'s "Scavenger Hunt" sew-along, that I had two outer borders that didn't fit and that I decided I really didn't like, anyway. I laid everything aside before my trip up to Hampton, VA; deciding to tackle the dismantling of those

a flimsy and some whimsey . . . from Count it *all* JOY!

Is anyone else struggling with spammers (one in particular) of late?  I hate putting my comments on moderation, but I'm so tired of the spam, I had to go there for the time being. On a happier note, this is post 1,400!  Not that it means anything to anyone but me (and I've been blogging since 2003, which averages to 82 posts a year?!) ... perseverance!  LOL!

I finished my class flimsy . . .
I'm so in love with this.  The top finished out at a respectable 60" square.  It'll make a nice lap quilt.  I'm going ...

sand castle top from Making A Lather

I have sewn the last seam on the sand castle quilt.

And, now, it is a top.

The pattern for sand castles is from quiltville and does not call for borders. So, I don't think I will add them either.
It is 82 x 82 right now. I am planning on continuing on this one, until it is finished, instead of just adding it to the list of tops that need quilted.

sister's top from Making A Lather

I just have this off of the quilting frame. It was huge, and I have miles of binding to attach. It is a longtime ufo, and I wanted to get it done. It was easy to start the quilt by making red and white nine patches as I sewed other projects, but the rest has taken a few years.

It's time to put green away for the rainbow scrap challenge and start working with my orange scraps.
I did sort and fold this bucket of green scraps. I cut some of them into 3 1/2 in, and 2 ...
