In the Studio this week… January 2019 from Jacquelynne Steves

I have not done an "In the Studio" post for a long time! For this year, I would like to do a post every month to show you what's going on behind the scenes in both my business and my life.... so that is one of my goals for 2019!! This is January's post- hopefully this "resolution" won't flop come February!! Another 2019 goal- more "me" time! I was talking with designer friend Pat Sloan the other day, and we were talking about how we work too much- we made a pact for 2019 to do at ...

2018: Year in Review from 3and3quarters

Thinking back on last year, I immediately frown and wonder just what it was I actually did during the year that could hold some significance for me.

At first I was all like, ‘nahh. Nothing happened that could really hold up in a blog post, detailing my life in and around my sewing room!’

But then a simple scroll through my Instagram and all of a suddenly I have a hurried, messy scribble of a list detailing all of the wonderful events and creative pursuits I managed to fit into the year!

So, listing in chronological order, let’s review ...

the “old bat” cave… from Featherstone Quiltworks

Since it’s pretty tidy, I thought I would share a few of my favorite things in my sewing space, or, as I like to think of it, The Bat Cave.  And no, it’s rarely this tidy!

Welcome to my blog and my sewing room! C’mon in, because who doesn’t enjoy a good snoop around someone else’s sewing space?

I knew I needed a pegboard (or something similar) above my sewing machine. I need to have things handy and out where I can see them. I got this clear plastic pegboard from Amazon, and I love ...

November/December Notes from Featherstone Quiltworks

(Header shot is of a horse-drawn carriage, curbside, in New Orleans.)

Happy New Year!

We were away the first half of December, so I decided to do a combined-month blog post.

Thanksgiving was a week of puzzles, games, movies, and food!  This is Rob (#3 Son), hard at work.  Isn’t it good to know that my sewing lights get a little extra use?  All the “kids” were home off and on all week, and it was so much fun to have them around.  I’m a lucky mom.

Rob (Son #1), above, working on a puzzle.

Fast forward ...

November 3rd Report from Featherstone Quiltworks

The featured image above is my “auditioning” my Thanksgiving table.  New napkins and placemats!  Getting me in the mood…it will be here before we know it.  On with October in review:

October was a very busy month…a trip to Alabama to sew with my auntie, progress on my Ruffled Roses, and I finished the MQ Mystery top!  The quick-and-dirty summary is:  lotsa sewing!  But you came for the details…

I did the matchstick little border and the paper-pieced lattice border.  Those borders are framed by a peach 1/4″ border.   The next big border is ...

Free Embroidery Pattern- Coffee Shop Puppy! from Jacquelynne Steves

This free embroidery pattern is called Coffee Shop Puppy! When I was drawing it, I was imagining a cute little "hipster" type of puppy who would enjoy hanging out at the coffee shop with his friends, warming up with some cocoa or lattes! Can you imagine how cute that would be?  It would be soooo cute framed, or as a pillow. Add it to a snuggly quilt for the favorite kid or "tween" in your life. You could also print it out for the kids and grandkids to use as a coloring sheet. The possibilities are endless!! Getting creative with ...

Messy or Neat?? Creativity and Organization Ideas from Jacquelynne Steves

I’ve been wondering about something lately…. is there truth to that stereotype about creative people being messy? I, for one, work much better in a clean organized space- I feel like clutter makes me overwhelmed and stressed. I think whether you are messy or neat, you have to be at least a LITTLE organized so you can find your stuff…. We’re all so busy and I hear so many people saying that they don’t have the time to be creative. There’s nothing worse than finding 15 minutes to work on a project, and then wasting that ...

24 MORE Free Projects to sew for Fall! from Jacquelynne Steves

When is your favorite season for sewing? For me, it is definitely when the weather turns cooler... it just feels cozy and perfect for being in the house. I like to imagine myself in a sisterhood with women who came before me... A couple of hundred years ago when we lived more seasonally, warm long days meant working outside and preparing food for the upcoming winter. But the shorter, cooler days signaled the time for hunkering down and spending more time indoors, doing activities like sewing. And yes, I like to sometimes imagine myself as one of the Ingalls, out ...
