July Favorite Finish - Cake Walk Quilt from Melva Loves Scraps

As I looked back over the past month... where did it go, by the way?  I can see I spent a great deal of time in my studio...

But the favorite finish of the month was the Cake Walk Quilt... it is my customer's quilt featuring Dresden Plate bocks and a few Sun Bonnet Sue blocks that appear to be "walking around the edge of the quilt".  

I struggled with a quilting design idea and went back and forth about several options, but finally settled on "connecting the dots" as one reader suggested.

So much bias tape on this quilt. I enjoyed making it and sewing it on but when I went to sew the wedges together I had a hard time getting the bias tape to match in width. Because I made the bias with various fabrics some pressed better than others. I do recommend the AGF's because their hand is so smooth and presses beautifully but if you use the light prints you might get see through seams. The pressing really needs to go whichever way is the flattest.

Weekly update: an unexpected gift, stash report, OMG finished and planned -- and reading from With Strings Attached

The 2021 ALA Midwinter Meeting was held virtually from January 22-26.  FLOTUS Dr. Jill Biden was the closing speaker on the 25th.  She was so vibrant!   The remarkable young poet Amanda Gorman appeared in a clip just prior to Dr. Biden's talk. 


Just a year ago I'd heard of Zoom but I'd only attended one meeting.  It does it much easier to convene groups of people who live both nearby and far away.  A perfect example:  on Saturday morning AAUW-Michigan convened a regional meeting with participants from 18 states.
