Starry Path Quilt Designs from Stof genoeg

Linda Franz keeps releasing new Inklingo shapes! I just can’t keep up. Not all of them are easy to draft and play with in EQ, so I am not showing designs with shapes from Willyne Hammerstein’s Millefiori books. I have … Continue reading

Merry Christmas! from Stof genoeg

Virtual Challenge 1 from Virtual Quilter

Probably the first challenge is to find the time, but if you beat that challenge, here goes!

Select a block  from the

Electric Quilt Library … Classic Pieced … Antique Mosaics.

Add at least four seam lines, then play with colour placement.  If you are brave, also delete some lines, before or after you play with colour placement.

One thing to keep in mind when playing with colour is that colour gets a lot of the credit while contrast does a lot of the work.

I selected the first Antique Mosaic block, Mosaic  No 1.

Challenge 1a

The grey version from the library.

Challenge 1b

The ...

Acres of diamonds from Texas Quilting

PC quiltI remember in business school years ago one of the phrases we were taught about was called “acres of diamonds”.  The phrase was created by Russell Conwell in the 1800’s and it meaning was each person can find their own “acres of diamonds” in their own back yard.  Close to where they live, work, have relationships. The idea is that many of us look outside for success instead of within ourselves. If I won the lottery I would….  If I get promoted at work I plan to….  Once the kids are out of the house we are going to ...

More Design Fun from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

My brain clearly kicked into play gear while working with the Garlic Knot block in Electric Quilt 7. I love being able to recolor a quilt in the design stages. I also  love being able to try alternate settings.

Debbie mentioned that an on-point setting could be done.  Needless to say that sent me right back to EQ7 for more play time.
On point?

The on-point setting gives it more of a diamond shaped feeling.  I like it.

But I also had to play with coloration  on the layout I showed yesterday.  So perhaps a nice rainbow version would be ...

A Little Design Inspiration from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

Reading blogs often leads to inspiration - or a condition that I call "I want to try that."  But sometimes I look at a design and the "what if" muse kicks me.
Yesterday my friend, Debbie, posted about a table topper that she made with some leftover Garlic Knot blocks.    She had made a larger quilt with this block that I had seen also.
Somehow, seeing the smaller one caused the "what if" to kick in.
SO ---- what if you laid out those blocks differently?
Here is a representation of the table topper that I created in Electric Quilt.

As you ...

EQ Dozen + Quilting 5 from Virtual Quilter

EQ Dozen + Quilting 5

The EQ Dozen series of project files all began life in EQ5, and continue to grow in EQ8.

Who would have thought that just twelve blocks would create so many designs, and I have only just started sharing the quilted designs.

Pineapple Log Cabin Block 36 FINISHED! Tweaking My Design in EQ8 For a Custom Fit to My Bed from Cheeky Cognoscenti

You guys, I am ON FIRE!  Not only did I venture out in a monsoon to restock my home with groceries yesterday, but I also got caught up with all of the laundry, reviewed a couple of tricky passages in the Brahms, and stayed up past midnight to finish one more pineapple log cabin block.  BEHOLD:

Pineapple Log Cabin Block 36 (out of 42?)
Here are the answers to the most common questions I've been getting about this project:
  1. I am paper piecing the blocks using a free foundation pattern that I downloaded from Fons & Porter here, but after ...

Lesson from a log cabin variation from Stitchin' Therapy

I have had this project in mind and on my to do list for a while.  This was seen at a quilt show in 2014----all floral fabrics and of course it called to me.

I ran across several very similar designs on Pinterest over the last couple of years too.  So I finally sat down to figure out the pattern.  LOL......who knew?  It is a log cabin variation.  And I have done this several times with different value placement.

Look familiar?   A log cabin block called quarter log cabin, or off-set log cabin.   It is the block that became ...

Clamshells For Days from From the Strawberry Patch...

Dixie 107.5" X 107.5" This is Dixie; I finally got the outer borders on this one, she's been hanging in the "to be quilted" queue for a long time. I knew that I needed to add the borders before quilting so that she would fit our king-sized bed. She is one big quilt!  I wasn't in any rush after the first of the year as the house was in chaos with the floor refinishing. When order had been

~ Christmas Memories Winners! ~ from Podunk Pretties

It's crunch time, I'm marathon sewing a quilt designed for my 8 yr.old grandson.

Hoping to get it in the mail by next week so he can use it before Christmas on his bed.  My daughter said not to make it cute or in bright colors.  Geesh that's way out of my comfort zone.  EQ and me whipped up a couple ideas and sent the images to my daughter.  She choose the one below.  I think the name panel will be switched to the top and a red nose added to the deer.

Most of the ...

Alison Glass Mini Quilt #2 from Carol Lyles Shaw

Looking thru my blog draft posts, I realized that I never posted another piece of my Alison Glass Mini Quilt Swap story.  So here it is….

I was in an Instagram Alison Glass Swap. My Swap Mama asked me to be an Angel and make a mini for one of the team because their original partner unfortunately had to drop out at the last minute.  I had about a week to make and ship it.   OK…I said to myself, I can do this!

I wanted to make this the second in the series so that the design would relate ...

Fig Jam 27 from Virtual Quilter

Fig Jam 27

I spent a large amount of time since my last post playing with the new toy in my life.

I drew some applique and quilting designs, added some quilts to several folders, one of which dated back to EQ5, along with quite a few others. I also spent a bit of time browsing through some of the block libraries, and the fabric library too.

I am keeping EQ7 and EQ8 files in the same folders so I can see at a glance which ones have made the change. In theory this will stop me converting the same project files to ...

A learning curve from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

So sorry about forgetting to publish that post yesterday.  I had done a lot of research in the morning about what class I could take.  I saw that I could get into EQ7 so I had breakfast and zipped off to the convention center. I was thinking that the class started at 8 AM so I was in a bit of a rush. I arrived at the classroom only to find it completely empty. After looking at the schedule I realized that it started at 9 AM and ended at 5, not 4.  Oh well.  Not a problem. I also ...
