Bonnie Hunters Easy Street from Tattered Garden

I finally got the binding on this huge quilt Bonnie Hunter calls Easy Street.
It measures 99 X 99.
I must say my street wasn't all that easy in fact it had several pot holes.

This one almost blew the tires off my car.  I have no idea what happened.  I was merrily quilting along - almost to the bottom of the quilt when all of sudden this terrible noise erupts from my machine and part of a needle goes flying by my head.  At first I thought I must have hit a pin but there were no pins in ...

AAUW-full -- and $500 for LAF! from With Strings Attached

The AAUW IL/MO state convention was May 3-5 at the Hilton at the Ballpark in downtown St. Louis. We had a joint convention in 2001 and it was high time to try it again.  I left home early Friday and picked up AAUW friend Kate at her house in a western suburb. Despite rain the entire length of I-55, we arrived in St. Louis at noon.

[Note: to find out more about AAUW just click here:  www.aauw.org]

I always feel so "AAUW-full" after an AAUW convention -- that's "awe-full," not "awful"! -- because our collective efforts to empower ...

One project near complete, starting New! from Quilting Affection

This morning after many evening hours of quilting,  "Easy Street" is now quilted and off the longarm.  I trimmed the sides, and sewed the binding on the front of the quilt.  So, now I am ready to start sewing the back of the binding for the quilt in the evenings while watching TV. Once the binding is completely done I will show it off to you all.

Now I have started a quick project for a gift for a friend's little girl.  I'm making a lap size quilt from a layer cake collection from Moda called "Meadow Friends ...

I haven't been doing much sewing lately. I've been too busy sneezing and coughing! However, I have finished the "Easy Street" top. My

Easy Steet from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

It's done.  I just finished putting the binding on.  I used a pantofgraph on this one.  It Fly Away, not sure who the designer is.  I can check in the morning.  Doing a search didn't bring it up.  But I did get this pantograph with my long arm.  I was never able to do it as there are some long winding graceful curves and I just struggle with those on a pantograph.  But hey, how will I ever get better if I don't try.  Easy Street is for me and the pattern is so busy that even ...

Easy Street Loaded! from Quilting Affection

Today, I spent the most of the day working on getting Easy Street on the Longarm.  This is the biggest quilt I have worked with yet, and it was not easy.

As usual the backing was easy to get lined up and I just took my time rolling it on the front bar.  After the backing was on it was time for the quilt top, which was not as easy to put on.  It was tricky to keep it straight and I was trying not to stretch the quilt out any further that needed due to the many bias pieces ...

Easy Street from Tattered Garden

This weeks blocks were really easy.  Not at all like past Bonnie Hunter mystery quilts.

I  was also able to find the time to complete one of the side borders on my Feathered Tulip in Vases quilt.  You can read more about this quilt here.
I hope your Christmas is blessed and you find a little time to stitch.

Easy Street, Whew! from Tattered Garden

I know some of you have heard of the Big Green Egg, well this is the big green quilt.
So big it won’t fit on the wall to get a good picture.  I still have to decide on the borders.  I am leaning towards something like this but am not sure I want to do this much more work.

I could just leave it as it is and not add a border or just add a plain border although I may not have enough of one fabric to make a plain border.
It needs to just rest a while ...

Dragonfly from A Stitch in Time

Dragonfly is the name I have given to my quilt made from Bonnie Hunter's mystery quilt a long called Easy Street.

This was such a fun mystery quilt along.   I made the quilt smaller than Bonnie's - mine finished at roughly 52 by 72.

The fabric I used was Moda Good Fortune.  The border was done in the green dragonfly print and the backing the gray dragonfly hence the quilt name.

Quilting was done by Cathy Kirk in an overall pattern called Deb's Swirls.

This was gifted to my sister-in-law who turned 50 yesterday.  I mailed the package ...

A Finish!!!! from Quilting in the South

021
It is finished!!

I got the quilting done on Friday and the binding done on Saturday.

023And this is the back.  I am really happy with the way this has turned out and plan to have it on my bed this week.

007I did have fun taking these pictures cuz I am really proud of my Easy Street: little itty bitty units pieced in December, blocks and rows pieced in January and quilted and bound in February.  The quilt is 101” square and covers my queen sized bed more than adequately.

018And here is what is on my design wall ...

Plaid Obsession and QOV from Sue Daurio's Quilting Adventures

Terri from MI sent me another QOV that I finished up this week.  I just love this one.  The red and white material is not really pieced but I did STID as if it was.  Nice stripes.  And then free had feathers in the blue and setting triangles.  Continuous curve on the Star and feathers in the background of the star blocks.  This one went pretty fast.   So fine on top, bottom line in the bobbin and Hobbs 80/20 batting.  Pattern In Honor of http://www.fonsandporter.com/articles/In_Honor_Of_patriotic_quilt_of_valor_quilt

And here's Easy Street all pieced and ready ...

Family, Nature, and Easy Street from Quilting in the South

Did you see the new header picture?  If not, it is time to look at it and then you can read that this is our youngest son (44yo young) and his almost 2 month old daughter, Elsa.  Think he is a proud Papa?  You bet he is.  And we are so enjoying seeing him with his new love.

WIP - Wednesdays from Hooked on Quilting

I've decided to make alphabet bean bags. So I put one together.

It's not the finished project, just basted to see how well the muslin bag would fill the finished bean bag. I think I will make the inside bag a bit larger.

Leaders and enders, from Bonnie's Easy Street, Step 4

I'll keep working, but thought I'd check in and I've linked up with WIPs at Freshly Pieced. Join me???

A New Project from Quilting in the South

owl bom 1I am so excited.  This is the new BOM from FatcatPatterns.  And it is in addition to the fish BOM she has going.  Well, I collect hollow glass owls and then some other owls as well and I just couldn’t pass this one up.  This little owl is block 1.  And to add to the craziness of all the BOMs I am working on, I am thinking about doing two owl quilts with the other one in “funky” colors.  That idea will have to wait.  Anyway, this is the only thing that is on my design wall at the ...

Easy Street–finally done! from Silly Goose Quilts

IMG_1371

I didn’t mean to have such a long blogging break, but things get in the way.  There’s a lot happening here behind the scenes in Silly Goose country.

I did manage to finish Easy Street finally.  Out of ten, it’s not a ten for me, but it’s a seven or eight.  The colours are not my ‘go-to’ colours, and that’s a good thing, I think.  I’ve totally used up all the pink, purple and green hand dyed fabrics in my stash, so that’s a good thing to.

I don’t know if I ...

It Is Finished... Easy Street Complete! from Quilting...for the Rest of Us

And so, it is complete.
The longarm quilter did a nice job with a pantograph flower. I asked her to do whatever she wanted, but to make it blend. She chose well!
I did a purple binding (also from my stash--yay). The backing was 108" I bought at the quilt shop when I dropped it off for quilting. The measurements worked out perfectly--I didn't have to cut or piece a dang thing for the back.

Looking back through time from its humble beginnings as a stack of fabric...

No, I'm not a whole lot more thrilled with it ...

Design Wall 2/11/13 from Quilting in the South

Design Wall 2-11-13Today’s design wall is highlighting “the dragon”.  I have appliqued about 2/3rd’s of one side of him.  But this is going to go slow because I get really tired of wrestling with him.  So I am going to give him about 1-2 hours a week until he is complete.
Beside the dragon are three strips of leftover pieces of Easy Street: those strips are really doubled.  My plan is to sew these into the backing for Easy Street, maybe even this week.

Easy Street centerI finally got a pretty good picture of the center of Easy Street, complete.

At the End of Easy Street... from Lovin' Life At The End Of The Dirt Road

there was lots of piecing, lots of pinning and lots of pressing, but I persevered... and the top is complete:

I have been fickle about this quilt. I loved it. I loved it not. And back again.

When I was pressing it, which took almost an hour, I fell back in love with it. It gave me time to really study the design and the way Bonnie worked everything out. Really, the woman is brilliant. Still too much green in it for me, but the addition of the borders quiets them back down a bit. I just bordered it the ...
