Lined Drawstring Backpack Pattern Sneak Peek from A Beautiful Day - O Zi Frumoasa

I am so happy when I have to make bags or pouches but it takes me a long time to choose the fabrics and almost every time I think I don't have the right ones.

When designing a bag, first of all I think to be useful: to be spacious enough, but not too large, to have as many pockets as possible, placed as handy as possible, to be worn as comfortable as possible. After all these I look for the aesthetic aspects of the shape.
Two years ago, a friend asked me to sew two drawstring backpacks ...

Denver Tote in two sizes (new pdf pattern) from Sotak Handmade

Hello friends, happy Monday to you all!

I'm excited to share my newest tote bag pattern today.

Denver Tote comes in two sizes and not only does it make a perfectly stylish everyday tote bag, it works great as a project bag as well. (some of you might be familiar with this bag design as the larger version was featured in Issue 61 of Love Patchwork and Quilting magazine)

This is an easy, beginner friendly pattern that comes together pretty effortlessly in very little time, especially when one uses leather handles like I did. You can, of course, substitute ...

drawstring bags from Sotak Handmade

Do you like making drawstring bags? I certainly do. I love how quick and easy to make they are, plus they are super useful as project bags, storage bags for many tiny toys our kids tend to have around the house, or they can also be wonderful for wrapping presents.

I made this simple, yet stylish drawstring bag using my free tutorial (available here in case you'd like to give it a go as well) and some gorgeous fabric I purchased at my local fabric market. I know, right? I'm so lucky to live in a place that ...

bonnie curves drawstring bag from Charm About You

Oh how I love sewing a little make all for myself! Especially when it's cute and useful!

The Bonnie Curves pattern by Laura Cunningham is really fun, with great advice for sewing curves and a tutorial for the most adorable drawstring bag.

I'm confident sewing curves, though Laura includes lots of helpful tips in case you're not, but improvised sewing can be unnerving and this was an easy way to do improv and still follow a pattern (I like structure). The steps are all laid out but you are creating the curves and adapting the instructions as ...

qayg drawstring bag from Sotak Handmade

Yesterday afternoon, completely out of the blue, I decided to dump the contents of my two full to the brim scrap bins and start making quilt as you go blocks. I love this technique as I greatly enjoy turning scraps into lovely new projects, and I also find all that repetitive stitching super relaxing.

This was my first block and I was super pumped and started thinking that maybe I should make enough blocks to make a quilt. Yes, definitely an overly ambitious thinking, especially since my quilting mojo is nowhere to be found these days :(

So, not surprisingly, after ...

two small finishes from Sotak Handmade

Hello lovelies, are you enjoying this holiday season?

I must say, the week between Christmas and New Year is almost always a bit of a drag for me :(. I usually imagine myself resting and enjoying these slow days, but in reality I just start feeling unproductive and anxious most of the time. So this year I adjusted my idea of recharging and instead of sitting around forcing myself to relax, I decided to include some just for fun sewing in my days.

And, it worked !!!

I almost forgot how wonderfully freeing it feels to sew with no deadline or commitment ...

Making a Patchwork Drawstring Bag from Sew Paint It

I made a drawstring bag out of patchwork for my daughter.  She loves everything that is cute.
The fabric was a charm pack from Riley Blake called Snapshots.  A charm pack is a number, in this case 32, of coordinating fabrics in squares which are 5" x 5".  I cut them into quarters giving me 4 squares of each fabric which were 2.5".  I then arranged them and sewed them together to make 6 squares wide and 7 squares high.

I then quilted it with a pink fabric on the reverse and quilted 0.25" from each side of ...
