Design Wall Monday - July 17, 2017 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Today's not a design wall, but a pile of little quilts that I am putting labels on.  I am not so good at completing that finishing touch of documenting my quilts.  I'm wanting to improve that so I'm spending my sewing time today making labels for several little quilts. Also, if they don't have a hanging sleeve, or hanging triangles, on the back, I'm sorting those into a pile to add

Design Wall Monday - July 10, 2017 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

How to reward myself for doing a good deed?  Start a new doll quilt, of course.  I'm working on a snowball and nine patch doll quilt from a July challenge by a blogger friend at Huckleberry Stitches  (Here) .  It is going well, and a nice break from the Valentine quilt. What was the good deed?  An adult child came to visit and brought  a "mending" task.  Her dog had chewed up the back

Replica of an Old Doll Quilt from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

As I looked up when I had written about this quilt, I see the two posts referenced below are from 2013.  It seems like just yesterday.   This little doll quilt was so much fun to make that I hated to finish it.  I know, that doesn't make sense, but there you have it.  I am making the binding of several different small prints, to be similar to the original.  As with this whole process, I

Design Wall Monday - June 5, 2017 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Thank you all for being so kind and receptive to carrying on Design Wall Mondays here at my blog.  I am loving all of your projects, and am looking forward to seeing what you will be posting this Monday. As for me, I am working on the Valentine Quilt, but I did get sidetracked on several smaller projects.  For instance, while at a retreat in Shipshewana, IN this spring, a friend showed me

Quilting Along With Internet Friends from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Whenever I see a cute project on someones blog, I think about making the quilt myself.  That's why I got started making little quilts once a month with my Internet friend Tilda, at http://Huckleberrystitches.blogspot.com.  She has a little parade of doll quilts on the first of every month.  Here is my entry for the June 1st group post.   It is a rail fence pattern, and I used indigo

Retreat Happiness from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

I've just come home from a four day retreat in Shipshewana, Indiana, and my heart is full.  The quilters at the retreat fill my heart each time we meet, and I can't wait until the next one comes around.   There were several wonderful quilts shown at the "Show and Tell" on Friday night, and also several other masterpieces in progress around the room.  It was wonderful, and I am filled with

Celebration of Spring from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

To celebrate spring, I started a new small quilt!  (Not that I need a reason to start one, but I'm using this reason) Center design: Complete quilt layout, on the table in the family room.  It will be 24" by 26" with each square or hst finishing at 1 inch. The drawing in my "quilts to make" notebook is shown below.  Not my original design, as I saw it somewhere on the internet

A Little of This, A Little of That...... from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Quilting adventures this week: Finished a small doll quilt by hand quilting it, and adding the binding.  It measures 9" by 12".  I added very small hanging corners on the back.  Here's the pictures of the front and back:   I may add another line of quilting in the middle of the outside border.  Always a critic of my own work, aren't we all? Took three quilts to the long-arm quilter on

February, A New Month to Enjoy from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good morning! Last month, we took a long car trip to Corpus Christi, TX to visit family, and while I rode along, I took a pad of graph paper, and drew out plans for some doll quilts I'd like to make in the future.  Today, I'm sharing the plans and pictures of the first one I made after we returned home. Here's the drawing for a doll quilt.  It is a 9x11 inch quilt with six

What's Happening in October from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

First, here's a little doll quilt I just finished.  It's a project for the retreat that I go to in Shipshewana every fall.  The ladies at our table challenged each of us to make a little quilt using any nine of the Jane Stickle squares in it.  Jane Stickle squares are 4.5 inches, but they wanted the little squares to be 3 inches or smaller.  I made my nine squares to finish at 2 inches, but the

Machine Sewing on A Wednesday from Humble Quilts

I actually got a chance to sit at the machine yesterday!

One of my favorite stars is the sawtooth, so a double sawtooth is double the fun!
As a leader/ender I made this cute little doll size quilt using Linda's orphan patches she sent me. The quilt measures about 12x15. We are camping this weekend and thought a little hand quilting would be fun to take.
This little fabric piece came from France, what fun memories of that trip with my daughter and meeting quilt friends.

And this little blue piece is an antique piece that a friend ...
