Who turned up the heat? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Holy -- this heat is getting even crazier every day. As everyone says, it's not the heat but the humidity. Monday wasn't a very humid day, but yesterday? That was humid. Last night was the first night that I came back from the walk a tad damp. Well, much damper than usual. I honestly don't mind the heat and the humidity - I don't go running a marathon in it by any means, but it's a great excuse to do things slow and steady!

I spent a good part of the day working on the customer quilt ...

Shopping chez Elaine from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had another great Monday sewing session via Zoom. Honestly, I don't know what we would do without these Zoom session. The fact that we get to see each other and keep up to date with families, solving the world's problems, our projects, and anything else that comes up in the conversation is AMAZING. I can't imagine what it would be like to not have the Zoom sessions. I'd feel so isolated.

While Zooming is NOT the same as seeing each other in person, it's the next best thing, and quite frankly, I feel like ...

Aviatrix Medallion from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We had a wee bit of excitement at our house last night. I had just come back from my walk and was sitting on the deck, enjoying the last of my refreshing beverage. Don't worry - by this time, it was too dark to read, so I didn't walk in the heat. The girls are lying on the deck, enjoying themselves. All of a sudden, there was some rustling in the bushes behind the fence, and they went ballistic.

This wasn't your typical barking session, and raccoons don't make that much noise. Yikes - so like the femme ...

On your mark, get set, go..................... from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Who turned up the heat? I don't mind the heat, and no, we still haven't turned on the air conditioning. We like the fresh air in the house, so some of the windows are wide open. A strategically placed fan or two, and we're good to go. We eat outside, and I was out in the gazebo in the afternoon for a well-deserved nap.

The key is to stay out of the sun. I walk with the dogs earlier in the day, and I went for my evening walk a bit later than usual. Everything was good ...

Everywhere a sign from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

A day for piddly little things, but it was a good day.

I still had to make the label for the mini-quilt that I made for my swap partner. I knew she wasn't completed my mini quilt, so I wasn't in a rush. Then I saw a note from her asking for my address - she was ready to send. Yikes - so I dashed off a label and sewed it to the back of the quilt. I had the mini-quilt for my Mom and a couple of other things to mail, so I was off to the post office ...

No one to blame but myself!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I say that with tongue in cheek! When bad things happen, I always try, very hard, to pass the blame onto someone else, but several things happened yesterday that - well, there was only me to blame. I'm good with that. Let's say that I had a few laughs over it and let's move on!

I was back to the dentist yesterday. Three weeks in a row! I hope that's the last of the dentist until my next cleaning in six months. This time, it was to get some work done on two teeth. Not really cavities ...

Digital fabrics from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Another great day! I know - don't you get tired of me saying that? How overly optimistic can one person get? But what's with the weather? One minute we're sweating and the next minute, we're freezing.

Yesterday, I went out with the dogs, and there's this one section of the walk where we're facing into the wind. It was COLD and WINDY yesterday. I had a big sweatshirt and shorts on, but I could have used pants. This young girl passes me (she's going in the opposite direction). She's wearing shorts and a ...

Paranormal? or the wind? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

What's with the weather? So - we have those beautiful trees in the backyard, but when the wind picks up - well, it's quite another story than the peaceful scenario you usually see. When we were eating dinner on the deck last night, it was very noisy, and when the wind really picked up with the rain at about 10 PM, it was like a train going through. Holy!!! Let's hope if any of the trees decide to topple over that, they fall away from the house.

The rain and the wind were pretty spectacular. I'm glad I ...

It's almost summer! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

What's with this crazy weather? One day it's freezing cold, and the next day it's hot! We're fortunate that our house is cool. Even though it can be hot outside unless we've had several days of very hot temperature and humidity, it's cool in the house. I was in Studio B yesterday and almost made a hot chocolate I was so cold. I really must get those sweatpants made!

Part of our yard is shaded as well, and with all those trees, it stays pretty cool. Then I go out the front for a ...

That's PINK! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

solved the problem! Yep - it appears that I inadvertently changed a setting on the camera, so I was getting the FULL screen of the phone screen when it should have been 3/4. So that was an easy fix, and I'll just have to be more aware of it in the future. I really should sit down one day and figure out all the features of that phone camera. There are so many features, but who has time for that?

I popped out on my bike yesterday. I mean, the weather was so perfect that if you didn't ...

Hilde's Beautiful Friendship Stars from Crazy Horse Quilting

Hilde made this beautiful Friendship Star quilt for, well, her friend! If I'm remembering correctly, her friend's car was broken into while they were on vacation and a quilt similar to this was stolen. She was heartbroken, so Hilde made her a new one.

I loved the setting of this quilt and wanted to try to make the stars pop a bit. I opted to quilt the background tightly, a geometric design in the star centers and to leave the points unquilted. A simple wishbone design in the border completed the look.

Here are a few pics of ...

Where's the tattoo? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Happy Mother's Day everyone! Most of us won't get to see our mothers today, but I haven't seen my mom on Mother's Day for years! But I always call and I'll be calling later today.

As I've been tidying up, I came across this Mother's Day present from M and got a good chuckle out of it.

This was a note tucked inside a CD case. The CD is missing, but apparently, it had a playlist for ME. I wonder what songs she picked? I'm sure I'll find the CD somewhere ...

Multitasking is not a good thing from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I really do need to create a list of lost items. Not that that is going to help me find the missing items, but at least I'll know what I can't find and I can celebrate when I find the darn things. Like those bodkins and the doll patterns and a person's phone number and, and. I might have a stab at creating that list later today.

I actually got excited yesterday. Why? Because I had a couple of errands in the afternoon and another Zoom call. I had THINGS to do! I had three things to ...

Shamefaced from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I"m having a first world problem this morning. My mouse is not cooperating as well as I would like! Thankfully I have a touch screen on the computer so that makes life a little bit easier. I've tested the battery and it seems to be fine. It's just not happy - works sometimes and then it doesn't. Oh well......

Wasn't that a fabulous show and tell from our Virtual UFO meeting? Seriously - if you have a group that meets regularly - consider setting up a Whatsapp group. It's a free app for your smartphone. A very ...

Travel Day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Even though I'm an early bird, when my alarm went off yesterday at a RIDICULOUS hour, I didn't want to get up. But the thought of falling back asleep and missing that plane soon had me out of bed and out into the beautiful snow and cold temperature.

The airport was quiet which is to be expected at that crazy hour and the flight was about 1/3 full. Which made it easy to get on and off and I had no issue finding space for my carryon suitcase.

I hope you all realize that while I may ...

Technical issues from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yep - things were going along very smoothly in the technology department. Then yesterday morning when I turned on the PC (OK - so I woke it up - I never seem to turn it off), I got this error message.

Error message

OK -- so I've been reminded for the last couple of days that I need to restart the PC for updates. But seriously? You can't tell me that a critical error could occur because I didn't do that. Lesson learned  -try to shut the computer down each night. I know that isn't going to happen so I ...

I'm drowning from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Well, I'm mostly drowning in ideas and inspiration. Isn't that awful? Actually, it's not, but there's so much to do and so little time!!!

I would like to share a proud moment with everyone this morning. The winners of QuiltCon 2020 were announced last night. And Peter Byrne (a member of the Toronto Modern Quilt Guild) won for Best Machine Quilting Frameless (meaning on a domestic sewing machine). I don't have a picture of the quilt. BUT then he also won BEST OF SHOW. That's so amazing. I'm so happy for him. He ...

Zippers from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

So it's cold outside! This is what the temperature reading was on my car when I arrived at the gym this morning. Oops - now you can see how crazy I am and what time I arrived. Actually, I was late arriving as it took a bit of time to chisel the ice off my windshield.

It's cold outside!

Well, it's been colder and it's colder in other parts of the country. If you dress for it - it's never cold. Technically, I'm not even wearing a winter coat. It's called a down sweater by ...

Pleats and tucks from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Another great day with lots of stuff completed. The best part? Last night, I went to my dressmaking class TOTALLY prepared. It felt great to go and not have to make excuses (to myself). I'm the only one who really cares, but it doesn't look great when you're always making excuses or don't have the homework completed. I was even prepared for making samples last night and took my own sewing machine. More on that tomorrow.

I had to play catchup on the samples that were due last week. Making pleats, tucks, and darts, I had ...

The big squeeze from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I got a letter in the mail on Monday indicating that it was time for my biannual mammogram. UGH. No one likes to go for that appointment. But if I didn't book it, I know that you all would be concerned. I called the clinic yesterday morning and I got an appointment for 3 PM. Well, I wanted to get it over with, but that fast? Yikes! The clinic is not that far away - OK - it's 3 KM away, but that's not far at all. And I needed some extra steps since I hadn't made it ...
