October 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

Although the days are getting shorter, it doesn’t feel like Fall – yet. I’m looking forward to more time in the sewing room as I spend less time outside.

I finished two things in September, Still Life and my great nephew’s afghan. It’s a long list even with the finishes.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): Gather & Give Thanks, pattern by Diane Arthurs of Imaginating.

Project 2 (Original): I’m on ...

New York Beauty from Quilts....etc.

Off to a good start – one of 53 blocks are now done on New York Beauty– I worked on it a little bit on Friday and finished it up yesterday afternoon.  There was some ripping being done until I got the hang of paper piecing again and I’m pleased with the way it turned […]

Fall Fun from Quilt Paint Create

I had some time off work recently, and we used the opportunity to take a break from the everyday.

We always like a scenic view.

And seeing bears has been on our bucket list for many years.

I can understand how they can become a nuisance though after they raided the garbage multiple times and made quite a mess.

I also made a lot of progress on the afghan and some progress on my fall stitch. I might even mess around and finish that afghan in the next couple weeks. I’m enjoyed the time to work on my hand ...

Travel Crochet from Becca's Crazy Projects

Last week we went on an adventure. We took the Amtrak from Baltimore to Providence, Rhode Island. I took along this project to give my hands something to do as the north east passed by the window.
New York City from the train.
On the return trip I finished up the last row with shells. I was then left with my Kindle.

It Was a Busy Sunday from Quilts....etc.

The last block for the Carpenter’s Wheel was finally finished  – now I need to sit back and look at the wall for a day or two and see if anything needs to be moved – of course the problem with that is if you move one you end up moving half of them and […]

Second Batik Rug Finished from Alamosa Quilter

For this rug I used 9 yards of fabric. It finished at 26" by 36" but as expected the size shifted after washing and drying. It's now 24" by 37".

second batik rug finished

I have enough strips cut to make another rug using these exact same fabrics. For that one I can't decide how I want to order the six different fabrics. Should I use all of each fabric so the stripes are wider or should I pick a fabric order and use one strip of each so that the fabric changes every 6 inches or so? I'll think about ...

September 2023 Short List and OMG from Quilt Paint Create

August was a calmer month, but we attended a lot of weekend events that took advantage of the last of summer. I finished two projects, my sister’s quilt and Words of Joy Tree.

That created spots for new things on the list.

I started The Short List many years ago to create goals to work toward and a way to focus. I change things up as my goals and interests change.

Project 1 (stitching): Gather & Give Thanks, pattern by Diane Arthurs of Imaginating. I started it last night.

Project 2 (UFO): I’m quilting the next challenge, due this ...

August Finishes from Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

Here we are again, another month that seem to just fly by. Its amazing considering we all seem to suffer one way or another from the weather.

Here in NE Oklahoma it was extreme heat and humidity.

A good thing because of it I was inside a lot, which meant I was keeping myself busy with projects.

Was pretty successful too.

This is going to be a picture heavy post.

I'll start with the one that I had been working on the past few months

the Spring Fling Shop Hop from 2015.

It turned out so pretty, and next ...

One More Block from Quilts....etc.

Another Batik Rug from Alamosa Quilter

I liked my first rug so much I decided to make a couple more. For this one I started with 9 yards of fabric cut into 1" by width of fabric strips.

9 yards of fabric cut into 1" strips

Then I joined all the strips together and rolled it up into a ball. The ball is about 8" in diameter.

9 yards of 1" strips of fabric rolled into a ball

Now I'm crocheting it into a rug. I simply chain stitched until the chain is about 2" longer than the finished width of the rug I want and started single crocheting. I'll just continue to single crochet until I run out of fabric strips. It ...

A Busy Hot Day from Quilts....etc.

I stayed inside almost all day – every day this week – it is just to hot to be out for more than a couple minutes at a time.  But I guess seeing as I am in the walking boot (yes I tried without but I guess it is better with it) I wouldn’t be […]

Stinging from Becca's Crazy Projects

A while back I got the crazy idea that I wanted to make some fake wasp nests. I convinced Darling Husband to go with me to the craft store and buy some acrylic yarn in a suitable color. I picked up a pattern on Ravelry, and got stitching. The stitch pattern makes a wonderfully organic shape.
I stitched and stitched until I could make the decreases.
I finished the fake wasp nest. It doesn't look much like the pattern sample. Overall, an interesting project. In practice? Well, that is another matter. While I was working on this project, I ...

Worked on a Variety of Projects from Quilts....etc.

Yesterday was one of those inside days and I was making sure I didn’t get bored by working on more than one thing.  Why didn’t I spend more time outside? This is why – this was at about 1PM if I remember right Thread basting happened on Noriko’s Star And yes I was finally able […]

Sunday Stash August 20, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

No change in the numbers.

I finished beading Words of Joy Tree. I have a frame for it and hope to fully finish it before the holidays.

The next hand project is an afghan my sister started crocheting for her grandson. I learned to crochet as a child and have made things on and off through the years. I enjoy crochet, just not as much as other things.

No one else in the family knows how, so I volunteered to finish it after she passed.

I’ll probably start another stitch project too, but not today.

Fabric In: 28.625 ...

Thank Goodness for A/C from Quilts....etc.

Many Colours. from Sunburnt Quilts

While it has been cold outside, I have made the most of having my Harbour Blanket on my lap so I could finish the borders.

This is a design from Attic 24.

It is quite large. This is a double bed.

I had a laugh when I saw this photo. The edges look so uneven. I can assure you that is due to the doona underneath.

Here are the edges.

I didn’t have enough to go all the way round in one color, so I used one colour for top and bottom and then another colour for the sides ...

What I’m Working On from Quarter-Inch Capers

Mostly, I’ve been working on my income tax, but the end is in sight! I need to simplify my life. LOL. I did have time time to quilt some more yardage that will be made into table runners and placemats.

I got this one cut and started on the binding:

This is the table runner….just four placemats to go. All this binding is making me tired.

The heat is nuts. And, it is so dry. I have been filling the bird baths daily; not just for the birds, but for the bees and butterflies, and whatever else needs ...

Travel Crochet from Becca's Crazy Projects

Sometimes I need a comfort crochet project. This is one of those projects. We recently traveled to say a last goodbye to a good friend. When you have plenty to think about, a simple project is perfect to occupy your hands. This is a granny triangle shawl made with a Caron Skinny Cake.

Crocheted Rug :: Update and Finished from Alamosa Quilter

My crocheted rug experiment was successful!

completed crocheted rug

This is the entire 8 1/3 yards of fabric I cut up and processed to crochet. It finished at 24" by 30". It's surprisingly cushiony and soft.

I wanted to see how it would wash up so I washed it and dried it in my machines. It's now even softer, still cushiony and measures 22" by 31". I find it interesting that it shrank in one direction but grew in the other!

I'm already planning my next one, but first I need to order myself a nicer crochet hook. The ...
