More Half Pickled Ladies from Quilt Obsession

The final eight half clamshell pickles are done – so now it’s time to start sewing them on to the top. But first, here are the final eight.

I was happy to find so many of my floral fabrics had flowers small enough for all the clamshell pickles, including all the partial ones. Some very small.

Some quite a bit larger.

Some light.

Some darker.

Lots of roses, large …

… and small.

Another light one.

And one of my favourites.

Now that all the half Pickled Ladies are done, it’s time for lots of curved piecing and continuous stitching as ...

Half Pickled Ladies on the Side from Quilt Obsession

I had made the little strips of triangles for the side halves of the Clamshell Pickles a long time ago and they’ve been sitting waiting, all this time, for me to finally get the fabrics chosen and half Pickled Ladies printed for each one.

All that was left was some nice curved piecing to add the little strips of the triangles to the half clamshell pickles, which went very quickly, and all the ones needed for one side are now done.

Using the window template made it very quick to find fabrics that worked for the side halves. The ...

What Happens In Florida Doesn't Stay In Florida: Fabric Shopping, Slow Stitching, and a Splash in the Pool... Oh, and Open Heart Surgery. from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Well, hello there, blogosphere!  I've been in Naples, Florida all last week visiting my in-laws and just got home in time for Maundy Thursday church services.  While in Florida, my darling husband offered to take me to the local quilt shop, Flash Sew and Quilt.  And once we got there, and I started picking out fabric, he was SURPRISED.  Isn't that funny?  What did he THINK I was going to do at the quilt shop -- just pet the fabrics and then leave empty-handed?!  Silly man.

Fat Quarters, Layer Cakes, Charm Packs, and Kona Solids Skinny Strips
The assorted ...

Half Pickled Ladies from Quilt Obsession

Yes, I know it has been a long time since I blogged, but I have been busy sewing all this time. This post will be a bit short on words, but there are lots of pictures.

Part of the piecing has involved finally getting the Pickled Ladies top to the point I needed to choose fabrics for the edges so that I’d have a straight edge before I start attaching the borders.

So I began with window templates for the top and bottom pieces.

And window templates for the two sides.

Six and a half hours later, after auditioning ...

Back to the Pineapple Log Cabin for Now, with Clamshells On the Horizon from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Hello and Happy New Year 2017!  This post will be short and sweet, because I want to get back to my sewing room before the day gets away from me.  After a hectic holiday season and a week of illness that saw me lying around the house amidst piles of crumpled Kleenex and steaming cups of Theraflu, I finally felt well enough to play with fabric yesterday.  I finished another block for my pineapple log cabin quilt:

17 3/4" Pineapple Log Cabin Block #27 of 36
That's block #27 out of 36 needed for my California King quilt ...

Clam Chowder from Quilt Obsession

I know, I know – I said I’d try to blog more often. Well, at least this time it hasn’t been over three months since I last blogged. In fact, it’s just under two months, so maybe I”m getting a bit better at blogging a tad more regularly.

What have I been doing? I’ve been totally engrossed in piecing clamshells.

Lots of workshops and travel from Focus On Quilts

I’ve been doing a LOT of travelling in the last few weeks.  I do love teaching outside of Melbourne and getting to know quilters from the eastern states!

In late August I was booked in for a couple of workshops on two consecutive weekends, one in Sydney and one in Brisbane.  I decided to give myself a mini holiday and stay with a girlfriend in Sydney between the workshops.  The first workshop in Sydney was a meditation workshop (yes I do them as well).  I then spent the week relaxing, sewing and doing some of my day job.

The ...

Quilting Gothic Arches from Quilted Joy

"Gothic Arches" is a Tula Pink design. Angela chose to use custom quilting techniques to enhance the patterns of the fabrics used in the top.

Kathy recently asked me to quilt this amazing top for her. The pattern is called “Gothic Arches“, by Tula Pink. Being a Tula Pink fan, Kathy also used fabrics from her “Elizabeth” line. The result is a quilt filled with bright colors and patterns. I must admit that this top intimidated me for a while. I had to hang it up on my design wall and let it talk to me for a bit before I dove in and loaded it to my Millennium.

"Gothic Arches" is a Tula Pink design. Angela chose to use custom quilting techniques to enhance the patterns of the fabrics used in the top.

This contemporary quilt really called for custom quilting. There are four different sizes of arches, and ...
