2022 - A Very Quilty Year from Sew........This Is My Blog

2022 has been a very quilty year!   I met almost all my goals, .....

..... finished nearly everything on my "Sew What" ("to do") list, .....

..... had seventeen finishes for the year, and completed my 400th quilt.

I even made two Christmas gifts, which I haven't done in many, many (many!) years.  (That may be the most impressive thing of all!)

Tomorrow I'll set new goals and update my UFO list.  Happy New Year, everyone.  May all your quilty dreams come true!

Slow Stitching from The Cozy Quilter

I have been furiously sewing this week to finish off some Christmas gifts in time for the big day.  Just a little bit more to do! My cousin and her husband came for lunch on Friday.  We do not get to see each other very often but often talk on the phone about our mutual genealogy project--shaking the family tree on our mothers' side of the family to see what we can find out.  The majority of our family members are Scottish with some Irish as well.  I made my cousin a wide open zippered pouch with some fabric I ...

Poinsettia Stitchery Kits from Sew Karen-ly Created...

With snow on the ground and the neighbourhood decorations going up, it's starting to feel like it's time we get serious with our gift lists.  If you are like me, you want to include something hand made... or hand-makeable.  These small stitcheries work up very quickly, by hand or machine. (Mine are all done on the sewing machine).

A simple poinsettia shape is outline stitched in 12 weight Aurifil thread. You trace the design onto your fabric and layer with batting and backing as you would a quilt.

Set your regular sewing machine up as for free motion ...

Twelve Days from From the Strawberry Patch...

As we close out those twelve days of Christmas it's a good time to reflect on the holidays and get back to that guiding word and how I plan to respect it in 2022. I did receive two Christmas gifts for use in the sewing room that I had asked for from Mr. Goodneedle, I'm eager to try them out and will report on them after the next few days; those will be spent taking Christmas down and packing it

Some Gifts Revealed! from The Cozy Quilter

Merry Christmas to all who celebrate!  Happy Holidays!  I am taking a few moments away from working on a new puzzle with my husband and our daughter to write my weekly blogpost.  Finn is curled up on the floor in front of me.  It is so nice to have them home.  (our daughter tested negative for COVID before coming to visit) We have had a quiet day at home...it rained in the morning and we took Finn for a walk after it stopped.

I wanted to share some Christmas gifts that I made for some friends.  I dug into ...

Three Finishes to Share from The Cozy Quilter

Like many of you, I love to make gifts at Christmas for my friends and family. Sometimes, a block I see on someone's blog or on Instagram catches my fancy and I print out the instructions.  This was the case this week with this Peppermint Twist block from @runningstitchquilts.  I made this block into a little table mat for a friend.  She has already opened it as I thought she might like to display it this year.  I used a snowflake print for the backing.

I finished the binding on my batik disappearing nine patch quilt last weekend.  This ...

Gifts and More Knitting from The Cozy Quilter

I'm still in full gift making mode around here right now so some things can't be shown yet.  I made two wide open zipper pouches and since the recipients already have them, I can share pictures.  I have made dozens of these pouches over the past few years.  It almost took longer to choose the fabrics than it did to make them! I had picked another colour scheme for one of the pouches and then discovered I did not have any zippers that went with those fabrics...back to the fabric storage area I went to pick something ...

Retreat Report from The Cozy Quilter

Last weekend, I attended a quilting retreat, my first in two years.  Everyone in attendance was double vaccinated and our tables were spaced apart.  I brought along 4 projects plus some mending to work on over the three days of the retreat.  My husband gave me a nifty folding cart for my birthday in February 2020 and this was my first chance to use it since I got it.  With the cart, I was able to bring in all my sewing stuff in one trip as well as my overnight bag.

My first project was my Buffalo Check Modern Snowflake ...
