Postage Stamp Star block with Fat Quarter Shop from Carried Away Quilting

A few weeks ago, the creative folks at the Fat Quarter shop asked if I’d like to sew a project for their Classic & Vintage series, where they take a traditional block (like those found in old catalogs and vintage quilts) and give it a fresh spin in a new pattern. Well, of course I said yes and signed up to make their Postage Stamp Star block!

The block finishes at 18” square, which is a great size for a table topper or wall hanging. The piecing is simple and straightforward. I was able to sew, quilt and bind my ...

Summer is Here from Pinkadot Quilts

Summer is finally here! It's almost the 4th of July which always felt like the middle of summer to me. I am on the Executive Board of my guild. The President made one of these cute baskets for each person on her board. Thank you Cindy! She even tried to pick colors we like.

I love this block! I have some Polaroid blocks to go with it that I got in a swap. Now I have to figure out how to put it together.

This has been a fun new Sew Along that I am doing at my own ...

Diamond Trail table runner kit featuring Fig Tree favorites from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I’m excited to show you my latest Diamond Trail table runner top, featuring some of my all-time favorite red, green and black prints from Fig Tree & Company. I had enough fabric in store to create a limited number of KITS, so that you can make one too!

This top features fabrics from five Fig Tree collections: Farmhouse II, Christmas Figs, Coney Island, Ella & Ollie and Chestnut Street. It has a decidedly country feel, but I like how the black adds a touch of sophistication. I can’t wait to quilt this piece. I’m planning to ...

Decorating for the holidays, quietly from Carried Away Quilting

I’ve been feeling quiet inside as we move into the holiday season. Not sad or depressed. On the contrary, I feel quite thankful and happy. But I also feel a sense of quiet. Maybe this is my mind’s way of fighting off the constant barrage of noise . . . from the television, the radio, the computer and the phone. So much information. So much news. So much to do. So much to make!

I’ve talked to other quilters who, like me, feel that being a quilter today is a bit like being a squirrel. We are constantly zipping about ...

Winter Flurries: a finished quilt top from Carried Away Quilting

Here in the United States, the Thanksgiving holiday has come and gone. In the Kelvington household, we cooked our turkey, enjoyed time spent with family, shopped a little, and started a tiny bit of Christmas decorating. I also managed to finish up this cute quilt top from the “Winter Flurries” mystery sew along with Fort Worth Fabric Studio.

This was such a fun project! I’ve never participated in a mystery sew along before, and it was intriguing to make a few blocks each week, all the while wondering what the final product would look like!

In week one we ...

Final blocks for the Winter Flurries mystery sew along with FWFS from Carried Away Quilting

Somehow or other, life got crazy in my neck of the woods, and I fell behind on a couple of projects. But I’m all caught up with my blocks for the “Winter Flurries” mystery sew along with Fort Worth Fabric Studio. Last night and this morning I sewed up the blocks from week three and four.  Next week we’ll be putting this little quilt together!

The week three assignment was the easy, peasy Flying Geese blocks, while we sewed up the beautiful Christmas Star blocks for week four. Now that I have all the pieces and parts, I ...

Halloween Fun from Pinkadot Quilts

My friend Stephanie makes these ghosts every year for her neighborhood kids! I want to go to her house! I just love it and think they are fun and easy. Thanks for the good idea Stephanie!

We only have 2 kids in the neighborhood, so I whipped these up for them today.

I usually go all out for them because there are only 2. They loved them!

I have another block made from my Christmas Figs book. I am a little unsure about the red. In the overall quilt though it looks fine.

I have started block number 12 and ...

Christmas Figs Quilt from Pinkadot Quilts

I am really enjoying making these blocks. As I said they are not hard but there are a lot of pieces and they're big! I am not following the color suggestions in the book which is also adding to the extra time cutting.

This is the latest, the bow tie block. I just love those added green and white polka dots in the background pieces as they are unexpected.

Here is the finished Lily block and I really, really like it! I am also happy with my color selections because I had something else picked out and changed it ...

Winter Flurries Week 2: Mystery sew along with Fort Worth Fabric Studio from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! I’m popping in to share my progress on the “Winter Flurries” mystery sew alongwith Fort Worth Fabric Studio. This week we made four Granny Square blocks to go with last week’s Economy block. I tell you what, the Granny Square blocks were so much fun that I have a hankerin’ to make a whole Granny Square quilt!

Last week I showed you my fabric pull for this project, but as I laid out this week’s blocks, I realized that my center square selection just didn’t have enough pop. I had chosen a ...

Red and Green from Pinkadot Quilts

I really love red and green together. It feels so fresh and crisp. I know it says "Christmas" but to me it is a lovely combination. This is a 3 Lilies block that I now want to make an entire quilt with! It is not sewn together because I still have to applique the stems.

The blocks are fun and a bit intense. They are not quick and fast though not hard, you just need patience. That block in the bottom left hand corner took an entire day! Lots of half square triangles!

I am using lots of different shades ...

Christmas version of Fat Quarter Flourish (plus kits!) from Carried Away Quilting

Earlier this year I introduced you to a new pattern called Fat Quarter Flourish, a pretty 20 1/2" square table topper or wall hanging made from just five fat quarters! I’ve been waiting for the chance to sew this pattern in a holiday collection, so here goes . . . Fat Quarter Flourish featuring Christmas Figs by Fig Tree & Company for Moda.

There are so many lovely prints in the Christmas Figs collection that it was difficult to choose which five to feature. But that's what makes this pattern so fun. I don’t think you can go wrong, no ...

Quilt retreat: A wonderful place to start a pumpkin quilt from Carried Away Quilting

This past weekend I attended an informal quilt retreat with long-time friends. We meet twice a year in the spring and fall to sew or scrapbook, eat, talk, laugh and enjoy each other’s company. I’ve been gathering with these lovely ladies for more than a decade, and it is truly a blessing. I’ve written about our Koronis Quilt Retreat before, if you’d like to read that post.  Today I wanted to pop in and show you some of the blocks I made at retreat!

You all know I am a big fan of Corey Yoder’s ...
