to do: something new from Making A Lather

I uncovered a small box with 6 inch squares. I believe, I bought it at a quilt show garage sale. I often wonder what the original quilter was planning and thinking while cutting her fabric into squares.
By donating her scraps, she has brought pleasure to my little world.
I didn't want to cut them down to 5 inch squares, but, I did look for inspiration in the charm pack patterns. I would just make the squares bigger, and, then, the quilt would be bigger.

I thought the squares looked coordinated enough, to just use them scrappy.  The squares ...

Wake Me Up Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

When I found the Wake Me Up Quilt by Emma Jean Janson, I was immediately drawn to it because of the amazing scrappiness possibilities! I'm still trying to get through my huge, huge scrap piles - does anyone ever get "through" their scrap piles? - so I'm always on the lookout for simple, fun scrap quilt patterns.

I was a little bit afraid using many different scraps would look like a hot mess, but I'm pretty pleased with the results.

I really like working with scraps - it's almost like a trip down memory lane during which I get ...

A Weekender Finish from Dizzy Quilts

At the risk of sounding like a one-trick pony, I made another charm square quilt. I'd forgotten how much fun these are to sew - there is usually very little cutting and all the fabrics go together well! The quilt I'm sharing with you today is from a pattern I've used once before, almost 8 years go now. It's from another tutorial from the Moda Bakeshop (I used to get most of the patterns I sewed from the Moda Bakeshop back in the day).

Just like many of the charm packs I've used recently, these colours ...

Line Dance Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

I'm back with yet another charm square quilt! I can't believe how many of those charm packs I still have in my stash - many of which I probably will never use. However, I just love the colours in this one - Summersville Spring by Lucie Summers for Moda.

The pattern is one I downloaded forever ago from the Moda Bakeshop - it is called "Line Dance" and was designed by Kathy Mack from Pink Chalk Studios. This was a really quick quilt to sew together, especially if you don't over-think the placement of each charm square. I think I ...

Charm Pack Fun from Magpie Quilts

Every once in a while, the sewing room needs to get a little clean up and organization. For me, this can happen at many different times through the year but always results in increased productivity. I try to sew on 2-3 days during the week, sometimes only for a short time, but other days I sew much longer.
Packaging mini kits
When I'm cleaning up and folding fabrics and putting them back where they belong, I will often see a combination of fabrics that I might have an idea for. I'll put those fabrics together, take the time ...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: 5" Charm Squares from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Charm squares. We love to admire their colors, stack them in piles, imagine them as quilts. How can you get more of them? Well, visiting your local quilt shop is a good first step (as though you needed to be told). And you can always cut your own. But if you want more charm squares …

What can you do with a pack of Charm Squares? Lots, actually. But it probably helps to know what Charm Squares are. Generally these five inch fabric squares come in packs of 42 pieces, so one pack will make a crib quilt.

A convenient little chart to help you
figure out how to use them.
Most often a pack will include all of the fabrics in a particular line, possibly even all the colorways, in one neatly cut, perfectly square stack.

A New Playmat for Ella from Dizzy Quilts

I'm continuing to work on my goal of using up the fabric I've had in my stash for a long time and this week, I've got another quilt made from charm squares.

The pattern is a tutorial I found in Pinterest. It is called Fresh Diamonds by Samelia's Mum. This is a pretty easy make, but not really a quick make - 156 HSTs to piece and trim! But it was well worth the effort because I really like the finished quilt.

The charm squares are an older Bonnie and Camille collection: Vintage Modern which has the ...

Easy Charm Squares Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

At the start of 2020, one of my goals for the year was to re-organize my sewing room. If you've been following my blog for a bit, you'll know that I started garment sewing and I now feel like I need to get better organized - fabric is all over the place in my sewing room and I need to find a storage solution for all the Big 4 and the PDF patterns I've acquired.

I was going through my stash of precuts and I realized I still have A LOT of charm square packs - some of which ...

Charmed, I'm Sure! Quilty Friends Are The Best.... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

As we come back for another week of Charmed, I'm Sure!, I am so very grateful for the kindness of quilty friends!  I received an email earlier this week from Jan Ochterbeck, who blogs over at The Colorful Fabriholic.  In it, she offered to let me use one of her charm square tutorials as part of this series, and as busy as this week was, I am more than happy to take her up on the offer!

So this week we will be exploring the joys of snowball blocks.  Rather like the real thing, they have a ...

Charmed, I'm Sure! Two For the Price of One... from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Today's "Charmed, I'm Sure" tutorial is a two-for-one!  You'll understand that better further on, but for right now, let's start with a block tutorial.  Once again, it's an oldie but a goodie, and one that has had a resurgence lately - the economy block, which is also known as a square-in-a-square.

This is a fun little block, and one that lends itself well to our theme of 5" squares.  All of the pieces for this block are cut from five 5" squares.

Here's what you'll need:

      1   4.5" square for the ...

I May Have A Scrap Problem... Reorganizing! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

It's been a busy week around here, and I'm  happy to say my sewing studio is finally starting to shape up!  My long arm machine is back up...

...and hooray, I managed to get my IKEA wire drawers underneath it!  At the other house I had plastic storage tubs full of scraps under the front of the machine, but I really don't think I want to do that here.  And that means it's time for a little reorganization!

I think I'm going to use the wire drawers to sort and store my scraps ...

Charmed, I'm Sure! Begins - With A Lot of Help From A Friend! from Confessions of a Fabric Addict

Hi, all!

Well, they do say better late than never, and we sure are getting a late start on this year's quilt tutorial series - but hopefully you will all forgive me!  Moving really threw a monkey wrench in my life for a while, but as you'll see today, a very good friend is helping me out so that we can get started.

This year's theme is Charmed, I'm Sure! and our focus will be on using charm squares.  I don't know about you, but I choose to cut my scraps into pre-cut sizes (2.5 ...

Under the Sea from Cowtown Quilts

Finally finished with this one. It started out as a figment of my imagination, and I ran with it. I made this for my toddler grandson, so it’s a little too “involved” for that age, but I ran with it anyway.

When my daughter was pregnant, she had talked about making an ocean life quilt for her baby-to-be, but you know how pregnancy sucks up your life; that’s exactly what happened. I was already well into another quilt for the baby, so there was no way I could also whip one of these up, too. Time has passed ...

Star Bright Christmas Quilt Finish from Dizzy Quilts

For some strange reason, the small Christmas quilt I made a few years ago and which we have always used as a tree skirt was not in our Christmas box when I took it upstairs this year. So we decorated the tree at the beginning of December, but I had to put a small "Christmasy" quilt under it this year. Until now!

I took a few days off after a work trip to Denver this month and decided to make another quilt for the tree. I really wanted to use a pattern and fabric I already had so went searching ...
