Fort Stockton, Texas from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a short drive with plenty going on yesterday. We find ourselves in Fort Stockton, Texas, for three nights (two now).

As we left Fort Davis yesterday, I noticed another barn. There were a few more, but they were either too far off the road, or else they were hiding behind trees, making them impossible to capture.

The landscape on TX-17 looks similar to what we saw when we visited Chiricahua National Monument.

Topping a rise, we came upon this escarpment. I tried to identify it with what the Google could tell me about Texas ...

March Chookshed Stitchers Challenge update from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

March was a bit of a dud for me ...... my quilting mojo went to sleep and not as much got done.

Why?  Well ..... we have a new member of our family.  Meet Ridley.  He came to our back door and after posting on local FB pages to see if someone owned him and even after bringing him to SPCA for microchip scanning, no one has come forward and we have decided to keep him.  He is so friendly and loving and used to people and kids.

He captured hubby's heart and that was it .... he is ours now.  I ...

Good morning, my friends. Be careful out there today. A prankster is lurking around every corner. Who would ever think the first full month of spring would be so full of danger?

As I mentioned in yesterday's post, we had a day off for Easter Sunday. The kitties got into the swing of it right away. They spent their morning in synchronized napping.

I spent a good part of the afternoon cooking. I made a salad for last night's dinner. And then I made another salad for tomorrow night's dinner. And then I made dessert for our ...

Good morning, my friends, and Happy Easter to all who celebrate.

I'll admit that Easter is kind of a non-event around here, except that Matthew has a birthday coming up on April 2nd. He'll hit the big 4-0 this year. Every year since his birth, I've checked to see if Easter would fall on his birthday. So far, it hasn't. And since Easter baskets are no longer a part of our lives, Easter gets short shrift. Nevertheless, I remember attending Easter sunrise services with my mom, especially when my dad was deployed to Vietnam. She often ...

Fort Davis, Texas from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to the Lone Star State.

As we left New Mexico yesterday, I captured one of the many nut tree orchards we passed while there. Given the number of signs we saw advertising "local" pecan pie, I'm going to go out on a limb (did you see what I did there?) and say these are pecan trees.

It was only about 30 miles to the border.

We crossed over and into El Paso. It's the latest of many drives through El Paso. It seems interminably under construction. I'm adding this little image ...

Good morning, my friends. Our stay here in New Mexico has been short. We'll be on our way to Texas this morning. But I know you've been waiting on tenterhooks to find out which national park we visited yesterday, and...TaDa!

It was an easy 46-mile drive along both interstate and US highways. Like Arizona, they enjoy their freeway art in New Mexico too.

Here's a little more.

Even their big tanks have been painted with murals. I'm assuming these hold water, but I don't know for sure.

And just one more before we turned ...

Las Cruces, New Mexico from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! This morning we find ourselves in the state of New Mexico. And look at you! You got there without ever leaving your chair! There's a lot of magic in this world, isn't there?

Sadie was blissed out on her hammock yesterday morning. The kitties know the signs when we're buttoning up to leave, though. We didn't have to disturb her. She found her way to the bedroom all on her own as we began to batten down the hatches.

There was something low and yellow blooming in the desert as we left ...

Good morning, my friends. It's shaping up to be a nice day here at the Traveling Three Cats Ranch. As I'm writing this, I have some Carrot Cake Baked Oatmeal in the oven. I'm hoping if I write slow, I can show it to you at the end of the post. On today's agenda will be a visit to Chiricahua National Monument. In a previous post, I was wringing my hands over the fact that the scenic drive was closed, and that meant there wasn't much of a reason to visit. When I checked the ...

More RV Park Art from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends! We had a welcome chill day yesterday. When we drive two or more days running, it’s nice to get up in the morning and not have anywhere to go. We made a quick trip to the grocery store, but otherwise lazed around.

I spent a good amount of time on the Kitten block, filling in most of the flower.

That made it possible for me to move my hoop to the right. That’s the last of it. I did a little more later in the day. Just the lighter parts of the kitten are ...

Benson, Arizona from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It was a fairly long day of driving yesterday. We stopped at one waypoint. (I'll tell you about that in a minute.) Otherwise, it was just mile after mile after mile of freeway driving. The kitties were happy to be getting their first morning sunbath of the trip. We were facing the wrong way back in Escondido. We're probably facing the wrong way here in Benson too, but I'm sure there will be more opportunities down the road.

Sadie definitely had the Do Not Disturb sign out, but disturb her we did.

Good morning, my friends, and Hellooooooooo, Arizona.

Okay, so we're getting a little ahead of ourselves with that Welcome to Arizona bit. We have miles to go before we get there. Sadie was settling herself for a morning nap while we were preparing to leave Escondido.

We really hated to disturb her, but progress waits for no cat.

We headed south on I-15 until we reached I-8. This brought back a lot of memories of our time in Phoenix. Our families lived in southern California, and I can't even begin to count the number of times we traveled ...
