Things Are Looking Up from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was busy cleaning, picking up, getting laundry started and getting some stuff filed with the State for the water.

I took a few minutes to cross stitch before heading over to moms to take her out to eat. We then went to Dick's Deli in Ground Mound area. We tend to go there when Patrick is hunger for steak. He always gets the French Dip. I got a Reubin Sandwich and more got a brat.

Came home and I pretty much played on my tablet till about an hour before calling it a night.

Good news ...

A Day At The Casino from Quilting My Way

This morning when we woke, we got ready to go down to Iloni past Kelso/Longview. It's about an hour drive. But I tend to like it down there better than at the Lucky Eagle outside of Rochester WA.

We had a good time. We spend our money, and then started winning. By the time we were done, we had played on their money and came out even. I'm okay with that. We tried a couple new games. One of which I won $400 on one spin. Then I turned around and won another $250. It was a ...

Getting Back To Meetings from Quilting My Way

This morning, Patrick left for Olympia and I headed to moms for quilting. And yet, I didn't quilt. I arrived early and she needed me to order some clothes for her. She can't remember her sizes, so I ordered the size she thought she needed. Wonder if those will be going back. I did go get gas and drinks for mom and I before I got there.

There was only 4 of us today. We decided not to do a lunch, but to snack on the stuff that was brought. Mom worked on her quilt, Nancy and Carmen ...

Enjoyable Sunday - Via Zoom from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up early. Slept good but just couldn't go back to sleep.

Sophie was waiting on me. She seems to love stretching out on the couch first thing in the morning.

I played for a while. Patrick asked me to go walking with him, so we did 3 laps. He starting to join me in my walking. Surprising but nice. We chat about this and that. Almost like being in the car together. lol

Came in and got busy on doing the billing. I needed to send out bills for the water. So, that took most ...

Yet Another Trip To Olympia from Quilting My Way

This morning I enjoyed not having to get up. lol

When i did get up, Sophie made sure I paid attention to her. I played for a bit but wanted to get laundry going. Then Patrick made a mess at lunchtime and I cleaned the kitchen.

Then it was off to Olympia for Patrick's oncology appointment.  We left early. When we got there, he had blood drawn. Then went up to appointment to find they were 30 mins behind.  He will stay off Chemo till his infection is cleared up.

We stopped at Dairy Queen for supper.  His tastes ...

Interesting Day from Quilting My Way

Was up early.  Nothing new there.

Ron and I walked 5 laps. Patrick was out in the yard doing all kinds of things. He was working on the water faucets. Cleaned some of the garden up.

I got busy working on some QOV stuff. Talked with Carol about getting the active duty guys done.

Then I started checking our list for Friday.  We are leaving at 7 am and I needed to get the stuff ready for our mini classes. Sandy sent the list that we have floss for. I found the pattern for the Goldfinch birds. I was working ...

Quiet Day from Quilting My Way

This morning I was up early. Just enjoying my time. Patrick slept in today because of how weak he was. He is loosing weight and doesn't eat much. I  see him wither away.

I played games fo r awhile and then went to work on my family history.  I added and fixed the information that Bryan gave me. I pretty much spent all afternoon on family history.  I did have Sophie keeping an eye on me.

So today wasn't a good day to be Happy Stitching/Happy Quilting!

VERY Sore Day from Quilting My Way

This morning I woke to pain in my chest. Not in my chest but on the skin. I scratched myself last night while sleeping and got more pain then after surgery.  I called the day - don't do day. I didn't do anything today! Hurt to much to do anything.

I did finish up a few things. Helped Patrick unload the dishwasher.  He thinks I over did it yesterday and I would agree to that.

I did find a few minutes to finish the last panel. This is ready to be an ornament.

I also started the next set ...

Week 32 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week I finished a pair of socks that had been on the needles for a couple months-

My fourth pair of handspun socks so far this year. This one from a BFL/Nylon blend I dyed and spun four years ago.
Cooler temperatures this week, but because I am running out of some of the colours I have had to shift the colours/temperatures sequence.

Photos from Around -

Ginger cat's cone is off - his leg and other parts have healed well.
This is the closest Maggie will get to him, and only because that is where her food ...

Week 31 of 2024 from Thread Head

This week I finished the pair of socks I started on our road trip-

I knit socks toe-up, two-at-a-time, on one long circular needle, from both ends of the ball of yarn to be able to us up of the yarn, and the small bundle is all I had left - about 1m (1yd).
I knit a regular 64 stitch sock (with a gusset and eye-of-partridge heel flap), but added a simple cross over stitch pattern (4 stitch repeat, over 2 rows), just to make the knitting more interesting.
The socks are from a BFL/Nylon fibre that I dyed. I ...

Bike Ride And Friendship from Quilting My Way

Today we actually went bike riding. It's been about 4 years since we went last. So, we went about 6 miles today. Joined up at Tenino and headed up the hill, then turned around and came back. Katt called while we were out there, so when we stopped, we called her back. I thought it was mom when it was ringing. lol She needed help with her sewing machine. Tenino had their Rocks and Gem show. We looked around a little but didn't get anything. Patrick kept me from looking too closely. lol I love jewelry! I wanted ...

Casino Day from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up and walking with Ron by 9:30 am. I knew Patrick wanted to go to the casino today if all went well. Ron and I got in 5 laps. I'm getting worried about him because when he stops, he is out of breath and looks like he will faint. He sat for a bit, but it does worry me. I told him he needs to take it easy and get something to eat. He said he had a protein drink beforehand. I'm not sure what it is.

Came in and Patrick was ready ...

Vet Visit Today from Quilting My Way

This morning Patrick slept till around 10 am. He was having the runs today. It's routine now. Every few days, he gets the runs and can't do much. At least his spirits are up and he's not losing the vitamins he needs. It's keeping him out of the UC.

We just pretty much relaxed all day. Till around 2:30 when we had to take Sophie for her vet appointment. She was really good. She hates going and loves to try and hide in the carrier.

She put herself under that banket this time too. Patrick ...

Better than Catnip from Gefilte Quilt

How did I ever finish a quilt before my grandcat moved in last year?

Here, while preparing to audition different bindings on a gift baby quilt, Cleo helpfully provides aeration. Certainly, the extra movement and fur will make my binding more accurate.

For Cleo, quilts in progress provide a far better high than catnip.

Next, the finished quilt, which I had to bring outside in order to get a picture of it flat.

It's one of my "everything in the world" baby quilts, made of topical 4" squares, organized by subject. (Click "baby quilts" in the word balloon on ...

Spending The Day At Moms & Quilting! from Quilting My Way

This morning, I was up early. I needed to work on the QOV information on each veteran that we need to honor. I wanted to do what I could for Carol.

Then it was time to head out to moms. I stopped and got some Chai tea while I was on the way. Thought about washing the car at the car wash, but decided I would do it on the way back.

There were 7 of us. It was pretty good. I worked on the blue and white block of the month that mom has. I pulled out moms' patterns ...

One Appointment After Another from Quilting My Way

This morning we were able to sleep in, but of course, I couldn't. I let Patrick sleep in though. Then I played on my games.

I received a call from St. Pete's regarding a referral for me to go through rehab. I chatted with the gal and said I could try it for a week, but didn't think I needed it. Around 11 am we headed back up to Olympia. Had to stop at St. Pete's to get an X-ray. The gal was awesome! She let me see my X-ray. It was interesting to see the ...

Four Windmills, 55 Years from Gefilte Quilt

Ever since moving to Southern California 30 years ago, I have marveled at the region's windmills, especially the miles of them between my Los Angeles home, and the "Road to California" quilt show in Ontario, CA, that I visit annually. They look like this:

Sometimes they spin in unison, sometimes out of sync, but they always make me happy, a majestic miracle of alternative energy.
In February, when I was playing with a raw-edge fabric-covered-with-tulle technique to make Valentines, I thought of those windmills and decided to make some. I pulled all the pieces from my batik scrap bag ...

HAPPY EASTER from Quilting My Way

We slept in a little today. It seems we are making a habit of sleeping in.  Ever since my surgery I have been tired enough to sleep till 9-10 am. I know I should get up, but then I don't nap during the day. I just seem to try to work it out.

Pain is still there. I'm tired of it. But I know it will take time to recover. Poor Patrick is having to do a lot of the stuff I usually do. I have been trying to help when I can.

We decided to go to ...

Hark! I Hear a Baby Boom! Be Prepared! from Gefilte Quilt

(Below, a brand-new human on a recently finished quilt. Eyes are covered to protect anonymity.)

Is romance in the air? For whatever reason, in my world, babies are a-poppin! Fortunately, I am prepared! Here's my neonatal kit: An oversized shoebox full of maybe 200 4" squares, some of them sewn into 9-patch blocks.

Unpacked, below, you'll find stacks of squares, many tourniqueted with torn white fabric strips, and the category name scribbled in pencil on torn-paper labels, in handwriting so terrible (mine) that I can barely read them.

In the photo above, the categories, starting on the top ...

LIFE AFTER OPEN HEART SURGERY from Quilting My Way

On Monday the 11th at 5:15 am, I was being prepared for open heart surgery.  It was not just once blocked but 2. Surgery went well. Dr. Abelson told Patrick it was as expected.  They had to work on the right side to get the muscles working and did the double bypass on the left side. I was back at ICU by the afternoon.

Over the course of my stay I met wonderful nurses and doctors all of whom worked towards a better outcome for me.

As much as I would love to say this has been a cake ...
