Here’s the back-of-the-book blurb:

Query Blurb for Holding Space from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

I’ve been climbing steadily and have finally reached the top of Procrastination Mountain.  I’m clinging onto it like a barnacle.

I’ve spent countless hours on the internet and read countless articles and blog posts on the Dos and Don’ts of writing a query letter. There’s a lot of conflicting information out there, let me tell ya. So much conflicting advice, in fact, that I’m inclined to just ignore most of it.

What does the query blurb have to do? Well, it has to accurately capture the gist of the story, it has ...

Hands2Help, Vogue 9057, row quilts, novels and knitting from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

Put your hands together and wish a happy 7th anniversary to the Hands2Help Charity Quilt Challenge!

Sarah has graciously reminded us that this weekend is the first linky party to show our progress on our quilts.

Yes, I’m one of “those people” who wear socks with their Birkenstock sandals. I wish I could say I’m sorry, but I’m not. I choose function over fashion just about every time, much to the dismay of certain fashion-oriented members of my family whose names I will not mention, lol!

I’ve gone through my box of orphan blocks ...

Polishing Edits from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

It’s been awhile since I’ve mentioned the manuscript. Were you wondering what’s up with it?

Well, at the end of February I sent it out to a few friends who volunteered to be beta readers. These are people who give the novel a test run and report back with any problems they find.

While they were reading, I put the manuscript away and moved on to other things. At the time, I felt so done with it, I really didn’t care if I never looked at it again. But time passed and comments started ...

Fire! from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

It’s foggy this morning. Outside my window, wisps of fog stream past like smoke from a chimney. Wait… maybe it really is smoke.  I get up to check. Nope, it’s fog. Relieved, I take another sip of coffee. And then I burst into tears.

A couple of months ago, I woke up in the middle of the night to the sound of sirens.  The urgent wail came closer, then faded as it passed.  I got and wandered through the house toward the bathroom as one does in the wee hours. But something was wrong. It took ...

Pinwheels for a Baby from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

We’ve all been very excited over the news that Mr. C’s cousin Frank is going to be a grandpa! Well, the baby was due on Valentine’s Day, but she decided to put in her appearance a few days early.

I haven’t gone anywhere near mama or baby yet because I’m still fighting off the after shocks of the flu (sinus infection followed by bronchitis). Some things you just don’t want to share, am I right?

…but I’ve been quietly stitching away in the background in anticipation of the special delivery.

I ...

On the couch with tea and hankies from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

I congratulated myself too soon for managing to avoid the miserable colds and flu going around this winter.

 Sigh.

Sadly,I’ve been relegated to the couch to drink gallons of milky black tea and feel sorry for myself.

At least I have furry couch company:  On a happier topic, I was featured on the Curvy Sewing Collective!!! Well, actually it’s my sewing room that’s featured. Check it out here!

On the quilting front, I’ve been thinking that I’d really like to make a quilt to celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday this year.

Katherine ...

A Splendid Sampler Update from Nita Dances

Dear Vi,

I can’t believe how many letters I’ve written to you in my head. Just about every morning I wake up with an idea for a letter, and then poof! it’s gone. So today I thought I’d just stop trying so hard to remember what it was I wanted to say and show you what I’ve been up to.

002

I’ve been talking about writing and knitting so much lately, you probably forgot that I’ve also been working on these crazy little six-inch quilt blocks.

009No kidding, Eh?

006

I’ve made 90 so ...

Knitting a Novel: on and off the needles from Nita Dances

Did I tell you that I finished my novel again? This isn’t the first time I’ve finished it, of course. The first finished draft was the equivalent of a scarf knitted up in open lace-work. Silky threads to hold everything together, but full of holes.

019

A lace infinity scarf: cast on, enjoyed and cast off to be gifted to someone whose name I can’t say here, lol. I bought this beautiful silky wool at the Itsy Bitsy Yarn Store in Whitehorse.

When it was as ready as I could get it, I sent it out to my ...

Finally, a quilt for the cabin: Garden Party by Blackbird Designs from Nita Dances

I finished this quilt just in time to give it a good test drive during a short camping trip to Jasper National Park last week!

It’s so much fun having a quilt to photograph when you’re camping!

On the Needles: Knitting lace on the Snaring River from Nita Dances

Mr. C and I went camping in Jasper National Park this week, where we discovered the Snaring River campground.

The perfect place to plant my chair and listen to the rushing water, clicking needles and my own thoughts for a few hours.

Paradise!
