Growing Boy, Small Foot from From the Strawberry Patch...

This one, our next to youngest grandchild, Gregory, turned eight over the weekend. His Mom and Dad surprised him and his sister with a trip to the Great Wolf Lodge. But, before they left on their excellent water-park adventure, we celebrated together, on his actual birthday, by attending a movie of his choosing: Small Foot. This is a wonderfully sweet story with incredible animation! The

A Super Hero Finish from Val's Quilting Studio

This is a pretty "busy" finish...but with two jelly rolls and a few 1/4 yards of superhero prints I was able to quickly put together this array of Super Hero fabrics for our grand-guys 5th birthday quilt! His two requests: "Meme it has to have Captain America and Spiderman annnnddddd be long enough to cover my feet! My feet fall out of last year's quilt now!"

It finished measuring 53"x 68" and should be big enough this upcoming winter
as he keeps his feet warm under it's soft, fleece backing of superheros.
(Notice our traditional ...

A Birthday Celebration! from Val's Quilting Studio

Our little grand-guy is five and we celebrated by treating him to his first college football game!

The pre-game "kid zone" events were full of fun! Bouncy houses, "cool" cars and big foam hats!

Boise State is know for it's BIG BLUE...and they didn't disappoint. By half time we had scored four touchdowns to the opponents one, each filled with fireworks, loud cheers and music.

He and Poppi spent quilty time together as he taught him the "ins and outs" of football.
...and his day was made when Poppi even wore his funny hair!

A much needed ...

Hello, October! from From the Strawberry Patch...

Yep, another calendar page has been turned. "Hello, October" really has been replaced in my mind today with "whatever happened to September?" Sigh. Time marches on! I read an excellent article yesterday morning, sent to me by a dear friend, which helps put life into perspective. I am linking to it here for your reading enjoyment. It helped me to savor the day, simply for the pleasure of being

Birthdays Abound! from From the Strawberry Patch...

A decade and a week or so have passed since the tiny baby, the one that made me a Nana,  burst onto the scene.  Happy Birthday, Mason!  Four days after her son celebrates his birthday our daughter's birthday rolls around. We drove to the Capital City late last week to take her and her family out to lunch on her big day. I didn't get any pictures of the festivities but had taken a shot of

...Miles To Go Before I Sleep...* from From the Strawberry Patch...

We've been on an adventure!  Back in April, on his 90th birthday, my Dad told us that one thing he had always wanted to do was cross the Chesapeake Bay via the Tunnel-Bridge. We decided then and there that this needed to happen!  Plans were made, routes were mapped out and the car was packed; it was time to make memories. We drove to New Hampshire to get my Mom and Dad and then we were off on a

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Watermelon from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

Milly turned one year old a few weeks ago and Dusti gave her a birthday party (of course) at our house since, conveniently, no one was sleeping here. All of the kids had just moved out, and we had not moved in.

Milly's party theme: You're one in a melon. Now, how cute is that? There was a watermelon-shaped cake, watermelon-shaped cookies, reds and greens and a few seeds. A precious red tutu! What more could a one-year-old want?

It finally occurred to me that if Pinterest is having an affair with watermelons, it may have a ...

May, You Say? from From the Strawberry Patch...

It's May Day today! I don't have a May Pole to dance around but I feel as though I am running in circles. The obvious question would be: "where did April go?", it honestly slipped past in a blur. I am going to be better about keeping up with blog posts. Earlier last month we traveled to New England to celebrate my Dad's 90th birthday. It was a fun time together with family. He celebrated the

high tea at wombat hill from block-a-day

Life is always full, isn’t it.  For most of my adult life, I’ve longed for those endless weeks where nothing out of the ordinary happens.  Gentle, slow weeks where time is endless, demands are small, and we are cheerful, content and doing just what we want at that moment. The sort of weeks we think we remember from our childhood, but really … they probably weren’t endlessly empty weeks, were they.  It’s just we were little and didn’t notice all the comings and goings and changes that swirl around us as we make our way through ...

October 2017 Happenings from Nestlings By Robin

In the Category of,
YOU DO KNOW IT IS MARCH OF 2018, RIGHT?
Yes, I do, but I have been busy....
I will be catching you up and then you will understand why I have been absent!
And, in between all of this has been commission quilting, new designs, and lots of applique and embroidery!

My lovely man was invited to Chicago by our eldest to go to a Cubs game!  You may (or may not) remember that this time last year Jim's brother was fighting cancer and Jim sat here alone, worrying about his brother and watching the ...

Five? from From the Strawberry Patch...

Five? Really?? The passage of time seems to be measured in days rather than years to this Nana. How could time be passing so quickly? Yes, our youngest granddaughter is five years old. January 2013 We had a fun day shopping for clothes and accessories for her newest doll, Kit, on Monday. Our trips together to the American Girl store have become a birthday tradition. My dad calls it

This Guy from Fleur de Lis Quilts and Accessories

This one right here. He's my guy and I love him more than I can say. But he loves me more. Hands down. No competition. Here's how I know.

He's helping me make yoyos. Who does that? Who makes yoyos for no reason except...no really, no reason. The answer is this guy. He's the one.

Did I tell you about the Great Yoyo Race that my guild is having? Everyone makes yoyos and brings them to the meetings and someone (whomever has the most) wins half the yoyos at that meeting.

I'd like to ...

I'm Happily Back! from Val's Quilting Studio

I sure missed my routines of blogging and sewing. But, I'm also so grateful I had the foresight to put so much on hold as we enjoyed family fun with our daughter, SIL and grand-guy as they stayed with us this past month during their transition. We so admire their patience as they make this big move with a wee one on the way! Wow! So much has happened.
Our grand-guy turned four! ( I didn't get his spiderman quilt done in time, but luckily, four year olds really don't know the difference and he'll be excited ...

A Couple of Baking Things and Books from Canadian Needle Nana

Though I like August (it is another summer month after all), a little tingle of angst sets in round about the middle of the month. Memories or some residue of memories, I guess. I have an August birthday towards the end and it always was happy yet sad because just a week later it would be back to school. Holidays over.

And standing pond side early this morning while Murphy took her usual dip, a flurry of tiny leaves rained down on me.  I glanced up to see a young tree already giving up its leaves to autumn so despite ...
