Healing Powers of Nature from Kim Hanson Quilts

Good morning everyone. It’s always so lovely when you drop by.

I’ve noticed that when I’m surrounded by nature, I feel better…instantly. The pine trees, large grassy areas and the lake always, always, always make me take a deep breath and let go of the stress. Lately, though, I’ve been wondering why that is.

I was watching an old TV series on Netflix the other day called Rectify. The main character, Daniel, is a guy who was wrongly accused and spent time in prison. When he gets out into the light of day, he struggles ...

How to have a stress free Christmas from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Hopefully, you all had a great and stress-free Christmas.

We had a super day with loads of memories and fun. While I like the holidays, I'm not one for fussing and spending hours prepping. I like simple. While a nicely decorated house is very pretty, it takes a ton of time, money, and effort to make that happen. So how to get the house ready for Christmas with minimal effort?

Here's our Christmas tree!  Yes - it's a quilt I designed a couple of years ago. It's a modern Christmas tree.

Beginning of Winter from From My Carolina Home

After a warmer than usual Autumn, we finally got a cold spell over the past couple of weeks, turning the remaining leaves pretty colors. Most of the trees are bare now, but a few remain here and there.  This picture is from the last week in November, early morning mist is settled in the valley with clouds low over the distant mountain ridge.

The deer are migrating.  This little group has been around most of the summer, and the little ones have finally lost their spots.

Tired Teddy Quilt Top: Colour Inspiration Tuesday and Link Party from Clever Chameleon

Tired Teddy colour scheme by Clever Chameleon

This Kwiltin’ Koala had a big week and an even bigger weekend!

I know just how she feels! Last week I had the excitement and privilege of submitting my first finished magazine quilt pattern. I can’t wait til it gets to press and I can tell you more. Woo hoo! And then I had a weekend of two Scouting activities with the kids and my brother’s 40th birthday party! So this fuzzy cutey is not the only Australian on the hunt for a comfy place to nap today.

Having said that….. I still managed to finish my log ...

Recycle! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Gosh - I'm a slug! When I don't have an imminent deadline, I'm a slug. I did get some work done yesterday, but I also laid around, I slept and I read. A slug. It doesn't happen every day, and I hate when it happens. Oh well - today is a new day, let's get moving.

Today it's all about recycling. Remember years ago, I got on a kick of collecting other peoples scraps. What the heck was I thinking when I asked for that? I must have been totally out of my mind. People have ...

Aussies came and went from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

My Aussie friends, Jennifer and Kevin have come and gone.  This was their third visit with us.  Where did their week with us go?  It came and went so quickly.  With my bummed up shoulder, I couldn't do very much and needed everyone's help to prepare meals and clean up.

This visit, they arrived to colour.  Glorious colour.  Jennifer loves autumn and it was so nice to have them see our colour.

Jennifer and I did get out to a quilt show at a church in Sturgeon Falls.  This was the first for me to see quilts in ...

A new ornament from Applique 'n Patch Quilting

By now, you all know that I love garden ornaments.  The more whimsy, the better.  So, here is my latest addition!  It is the big black thing.  Doesn't it stand out and says 'LOOK AT ME'!
No .... wait a minute ..... that is a real bear!   It was munching on my Lily of the Valley plants.  The plant and berries are poisonous.  It just munched a bit and then stopped.  Did it somehow know it shouldn't be eating that plant?
This bear is about 2 yrs. old.  It kept looking at the chair.  Did it want to sit for ...

sweet baby makes from Charm About You

embroidery hooded baby towel

I have a couple of cute baby projects to share that I made for Sewing Quarter in celebration of Natasha's baby shower recently.
This adorable hooded baby towel is based on one I had as a child, that my kids all used too! It's a combination of soft plush fleece fabric and towelling. Neither of which is easy to hand embroider but I used the brilliant Stitch-n-Tear with DMC perle cotton #5 and it worked really nicely!

four projects: it's all in the details from Charm About You

It's my birthday today! I have lovely plans, lunch with my mum and step-dad, a relaxed afternoon, a film with the kids and then a meal with my husband. Chilled out and spending time with people I love, a perfect day.

This is a little catch up on makes for Sewing Quarter from last weeks shows. Cute cushions perfect for a nursery or just for fun and a mini quilt with Liberty rose appliqué.

First is this adorable bear cushion, pattern from Sweetly Stitched Handmades by Amy Sinibaldi. The book is full of such sweet makes!

Let's Bee Social #206 from Sew Fresh Quilts

Welcome to the Let's Bee Social!

On the drawing board this week... Buffalo Plaid.

I keep seeing Buffalo Plaid prints all over the place this year. And I am liking it a whole big lot. The nice thing about this type of plaid is that it lends itself well to being used in a patchwork setting. The first design I came up with was the Moose.

Then I modified my Bear from the MOD Bear Paw quilt and placed him in the popular red and black plaid you will typically see.

I made a couple wolf poses and then ...
