Design Wall Monday - April 15, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

I finished putting together the cheddar baskets quilt top.  Sometimes when I am grieving, I get a lot of quilting done.  I have heard from other quilters that this is true.  Quilting is a comfort when I'm sad, and a joy when I'm happy.   Here's a picture of the completed top.......but maybe it needs a border?  What do you think? This is why I have a heavy heart:   My wonderful longarm

Design Wall Monday - April 8, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Sometimes retirement seems busier to me than when we were working.  Although we are back from our Texas trip, we are on vacation again to visit friends in Virginia.  My group of quilters who like to make civil war reproduction quilts, The Churn Dashers, is having their semi-annual meeting. So today, I am in Williamsburg, VA, taking a tour this morning of Colonial Williamsburg's Textile

Design Wall Monday - January 21, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

I'm so excited about moving along with the cheddar basket blocks.  I finished the ones I was working on last week, and this week I'm ready to sew them into a quilt top.  The layout I was thinking about: was to be similar to this rectangle one by Laundry Basket Quilts: I want the white spaces big enough for the machine quilter to do something special there, and decided to

Design Wall Monday - January 14, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

It's Monday again, and it doesn't feel like I have progressed very far with my cheddar baskets.  I do have all but four of the handles appliqued down.  Some weeks the progress seems slow, and other weeks, I can see progress.  Last week was slow, but I'm looking forward to making completed basket blocks this week. Here are the handles spread out on the bar top downstairs, with their other

Design Wall Monday - January 7, 2019 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning!  This past week I've been making blocks for two different quilts that I plan to finish in 2019. First, the Broken Dishes blocks are continuing to be made.  Here are 25 green and shirting ones that I made this week: There are lots and lots of these blocks in the quilt, so I am trying to make 25 each week. The second quilt that I'm working on is a small cheddar basket

Julie’s Block 13 from Virtual Quilter

Julie's Block 13

Electric Quilt allows users to use basic block designs as quilt layouts.

This is an example of a block made up of squares and triangles, with no diagonal lines.

The basket blocks are resized, and shaped, when placed in the design, and for each one I used the same block, then let EQ do the stretching.

Design Wall Monday - June 4, 2018 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters! I am out of town for the weekend, thru Tuesday morning, so I promise to catch up with all of your blogs when I get back.  Son and DIL gifted us a weekend at a spa/golf resort with them.  Very nice of them. I am making more small baskets, and here is a picture of six of them before I add the bottom triangle and trim them to their 4 in. x 4 in. unfinished size.  You can

Design Wall Monday - May 28, 2018 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

The new puppy has kept me very busy since last Monday's post.  Thanks for all your suggestions on names, and after narrowing the choices down to a few, I had the eight grandchildren vote, and they chose to name her Penny.  She is growing daily, and seems much bigger than she was when she came to live with us a week ago.  I added the middle name Lane, to make her name Penny Lane, in honor of the

Homage To American Quilt Makers from Log Cabin Quilter

More blocks completed from the Lori Smith pattern "Homage To American Quilt Makers: Album Quilt".

I have one more block to prep from the pattern.  A total of five left to do the stitching on and one of those is getting close to done.  Then decision making time about the setting and border.  I am thinking of doing something a little bit different than the pattern shows.

I also stitched a sample basket block and I like the look.  I do not know who the basket pattern designer is.  At some time I had cut out a basket from a ...

Julie’s Block 13 from Virtual Quilter

Julie's Block 13

Julie’s Block is actually the name of the custom quilt setting I have used, thanks to a feature of Electric Quilt which allows us to use a block with just square and rectangular shapes can be used to create a custom quilt setting with a click of a button.

Electric Quilt also allows us to use the same block in different sizes, and even different shapes without having to redraft the block. All the baskets in the design above are all the same basket block.

February Sew Sampler box with Fat Quarter Shop from Carried Away Quilting

In the month of February, we received more snow than we had all winter. In fact, my husband had to run the snow blower on our driveway three times in one week just to get the vehicles out of the garage! So you can just imagine how thrilled I was to open my February Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop. It’s called Home Sweet Cottage, and it was a ray of sunshine for me!

Here’s a list of the items in the February box:

The January box, so aptly called “Butterfly Kisses,” is full of cheerful goodness.  I’m just going to let the pictures do the talking!

Yep, I am guessing you will agree with me. That may have been the sweetest Sew Sampler box to date, and I have loved them all. Seriously folks, I think the quilting inspired bandages are ...
