A New Start: The Lewis Coverlet from Log Cabin Quilter

I started a new quilt project.  The pattern I am using is called "The Lewis Coverlet".  The pattern can be found in Susan Smith's Quiltmania book called "Somewhat In the Middle".  I changed the flower shape from the original pattern for ease of stitching.  It will be a medallion style quilt.

I don't think I got the layout traced correctly.  It was difficult following the lines on the pattern sheet as there were several different designs on the sheet and they overlapped each other.  The sheet gave half the design which I traced and then folded in half ...

Design Wall Monday - May 4, 2020 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

May is here!  This UFO finish was one I saved for May.  In honor of May Day, I finished the final border on my Buds in a Basket quilt that I started a long time ago.  When I began, I enlarged the quilt by making more basket squares, and then it got put away before borders.  But Sunday, I added the last border, and this UFO is ready for the long arm quilter.  I am celebrating May with it.

Design Wall Monday - March 16, 2020 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Well, the world is in crisis mode right now.  There are lots of unknowns here in Michigan, and lots of closings.  The Governor just closed all the K-12 schools and all events where people gather are being cancelled. The only good thing I can think of during this upheaval is that my quilting hobby is unchanged.  It's a rock in a very unstable time.  I imagine you think so too.    Our sewing

this and that from Making A Lather

It was a long weekend, I have been slowly cleaning for company and Thanksgiving. Not my favorite thing to do. So, I do it very slowly with as many distractions as I can find. I did dig the Christmas tree out of storage. So far it looks a little pathetic.
I made another sand castle block. This quilt is in the book string frenzy. I started it here and here and here.

...and 2 more florabunda blocks. This is a free quilt at quiltville- more here.

...and another row of basket blocks. more here

baskets from Making A Lather

I thought I had too many baskets from a swap years ago, but, it isn't looking very big when I stitch them together. I can make each row another 3 blocks of 4.
I do like the crazy fabrics, and the idea that 3 quilter's had a hand in making them. Matching them, to sew them, seems a bit fiddly, but worth the effort.

I have tried rug hooking again, and it is getting more comfortable with time. I did get another snowman done for my rug. This one is sporting a hip polka dot scarf.

I haven ...

November goals from Making A Lather

It's November and time for a new one monthly goal. Yesterday, I blogged about finishing all the blocks for my October goal. For the month of November, I want to arrange my swap basket blocks into a top. I could set them block to block...

or on point...

Last year, about this time, I was working on a quilt for my Granddaughter. I don't remember what distracted me, but, this is as far as I sewed.  I had a panel and a layer cake to match.

I need to lay it all out again, and try to remember ...

basket one monthly goal from Making A Lather

I have a dozen of these batting boards to use for block piecing. I never remember to use them, but, they came in handy for preparing my basket blocks. I really enjoyed making the blocks once the hard decision was made about which baskets to put where. It was really easy to chain sew, without the pressure of choosing.

I made a few basket blocks first thing in the mornings, and every chance I had, in between other projects. I was surprised how quickly I had a pile of blocks.

I had enough swap baskets to make 57 blocks of ...

Lucy's basket from Making A Lather

My one monthly goal for October was to make a plan for 230 swap baskets I have, and decide a plan. All I needed was a plan, and, the next thing I know, I am obsessed with these scrappy baskets.

Now my big worry is that, I did the math early on for how much fabric I would need for the sashings, and I had enough. Now, I wonder if my math was wonky, and what will I do if I run out of the fabric.

I know I will have enough to do each block, but maybe not enough ...
