Good evening, my friends. It's been a long day, made longer by the crappy weather we've seen so far on this trip. Thank goodness we've had some sun breaks, but mostly we've had drenching rain. Fortunately, the wind has died down from the first night of our trip. We had a quieter and better night of sleep last night.

Good afternoon, my friends. Well, a lot has changed since I wrote last time. I believe I told you we'd changed our plans after learning about a big Snowpocalypse headed toward the Siskiyou Summit. Well, we've changed our plans again. After watching the weather forecast for the local area last night, we realized snow would be dumping into literally all the mountain ranges surrounding us. Good morning, my friends. I'll admit I had my doubts about connectivity here in tiny Mt. Vernon, Oregon, but we have five bars on our cell phones and the signal is booming in. Today will be the last leg of our journey. When I write to you after today, we'll be home at the Three Cats Ranch.

When we left Winnemucca yesterday, it was more straight-as-an-arrow roadways. It makes sense when you consider the "Great Basin" encompasses the entire state of Nevada. It's a series of smaller basins with straight road from one ridge to the next ...

Good morning, my friends. Here we are in Nevada. We're in an RV park right along a US Hwy, and so it's pretty darned noisy. We have a good cell signal, however, which is a good thing because the park internet is down. We were planning to be here for two days. Fairly quickly after arriving, we decided to move along to Winnemucca. Originally, we were going to do some sight-seeing in a Cave Lake State Park. Good morning, my friends. When I left you yesterday, we weren't sure what the day would hold. The sky was threatening, and the forecast called for rain. We decided the state park made more sense since we could shelter in our truck if it started raining. So the hike is on this morning's agenda. It rained most of the night last night. I'm just hoping the trail and the road to the trailhead won't be impassable. We're expecting improved weather mid-day, and so we'll head out there and see what's what.

We were just five miles away and an hour too early, and so we stopped in a very small town for some lunch. While we were eating, a text message came in from the RV park asking when we thought we might check in. I've tried my best to whittle them down some, but it's hard to do. As I'm writing, I'm surrounded by kitties who are 'zhausted after spending so much time helping me with those pictures.
