Persephone purse from Espritpatch

Back in April last year, I started to make a Persephone purse to gift to my friend for her birthday, similar to the one I made myself the previous fall. I picked the model with the frame this time instead of the 2 zipped pockets. I choose a lovely tweed fabric for the exterior.

The faux-leather I picked was rather sticky (even with a Teflon foot) so it was very difficult to sew. I ended up having to make the flap 3 times before it was about acceptable.

Sadly I didn't finish the purse on time to gift it ...

Trail Tote from Kwilty Pleasures

It’s been a quick minute…well ok a very long time,
since I have made a bag.
I like to make them…but quilts have been under my needle
for the last couple years.

I bought this fabric several years ago specifically for a bag.
You just can't go wrong with Dear Stella prints.

I decided on the Trail Tote by Noodlehead
The smaller size is perfect for a crossover bag.
I wear crossover bags like earrings when shopping,
Always on my body, never in the cart,
no way anyone is gonna take it.
I keep it in ...

Project Bags from Romany Quilting

It was time to make some more project bags to corral my UFOs.  As much as I admire the bags often seen in blogland made with a zipped clear plastic front, these bags look a little too difficult for me to make.  My bags are simple draw string bags, made with netting, and finished with patchwork fabric and cord.  Much easier to achieve, and work just as well to house my projects.  After all, who wants to store their precious sewing in plastic bags?  Not me.

I used up some more of the seemingly never ending supply of four patches ...

Effortless Twin Pouch from Becca's Crazy Projects

Spencer Ogg recently posted a free tutorial to make the Effortless Twin Pouch. A friend of mine is a big fan of their patterns. I learned about this tutorial through the Facebook Spencer Ogg Bag Sewing Group. I popped over to the site and checked it out.
These are my fabrics for the two pouches I made.
Zippers are from ZipIt on Etsy. Excellent selection and service. My favorite source for zippers in an amazing array of colors and sizes.
This is a great little project that uses about one fat quarter worth of fabric and a coordinating zipper. I ...

Car bags from Bizarre Quilter

I went looking for some other useful bags to make. Well, not just bags, but items, and I came across this car bag.

Ok, I made four. What's a girl to do?

The strap sits over the floor gear shift stick, and it sits to the side of the passenger foot well. Why?

Because you can get fined for having a phone sitting on the seat next to you now while driving. Even if it's just streaming music to the stereo.

This takes away any possibility of looking at a screen while driving.

I've enjoyed mixing and ...

A new bag! from Espritpatch

Finally... my first finish this year, my first project fully made in this new house, my first bag in nearly 6 months... and 2 months later than the sew-along... but who cares, it is now FINISHED and in-use already! Let me present my strawberry and chocolate Remus bag! Pattern by Bags of Bags of Style.

The sew along finished on my birthday, on the very same day I started the cutting... I then spent (far too) much time sourcing my hardware that I had decided needed to be rose gold. It came all the way from Belgium from Serial Bag ...

Let the Sun shine- P.Q. 13.2 from Sew Sunshine

Let the Sun Shine - P.Q. 13.2
challenge theme = silhouette
16.5" x 16. 5"
applique
my original design

My challenge piece for this weeks Project Quilting theme from Persimon Dreams blog. The theme is silhouette this week. I knew I would keep this project small if I wanted to do applique. I decided on the fused applique and then stitched it all down with invisible thread.

The invisible thread turned out to work really well but it was so hard to see when working on it.

Linking up with Persimon dreams so go check out all the entries ...

Fan Sewing from Becca's Crazy Projects

A friend introduced me to Spencer Ogg Sewing Patterns. I found a free tutorial for this cute little bag. You can find the details, and a link to a video on how to construct your own, on Spencer Ogg Sewing Patterns. I lined my bag using a hack shared on the Spencer Ogg Facebook Sewing Group. It is a little more challenging to get the lining in there but it is totally doable. It is a great size for short trips. Enough room for a water bottle, your hand sanitizer, phone, and wallet.

Double Zip Gear Bag from Quilting and More...

I really like my Martelli rotary cutters; I have a 45mm version as well as a 60mm version. The thing that makes them so comfortable for me to use is that they have offset handles — which is what makes them awkward to take anywhere, given that they aren’t flat. (Note: I see that they’ve […]

Draw String Bags from Romany Quilting

I’ve just completed stitching six little drawstring bags for the charity Foster Hope.  These are given for children in foster care, amongst with other items, and they use them to keep their toiletries or pens and pencils in.  Just so you don't thinks I'm Wonder Woman, I have to confess that the bags were stitched, bit by bit, over a period of several weeks – I’m still pacing myself sitting at the sewing machine after my spinal surgery.  Then I had to go and purchase some suitably coloured cord, and the final job was threading it through ...

Open wide pouches from Espritpatch

It has been long time since I made an open wide pouch (pattern by Noodlehead) so I made 4!

More end of year gifts, this time for the Brownies leaders for my youngest daughter.

I used faux leather for the outside and cotton for the inside, one with the sports print

and the other 3 with an IKEA print that I rediscovered when I emptied one of my cupboard!

For the zips I had to raid my stash, they are not colour matching but I think they are complimentary

4 more OPAMs and off my Q3 FAL list.

Pencil cases from Espritpatch

More end of year teachers' presents on my list but I took a break from the bags to make some pencil cases. I can't really make bags for men I think.

I started with 10'' squares for those pencil cases and added a 1'' square of faux leather on either side of the zip.

First step is to sew the zip to the outside and lining so it is "sandwiched" between the 2 layers.

Next I turned the tube inside out with the right side out

and top-stitched alongside the zip to avoid the lining sticking out. With faux ...

More bags from Espritpatch

I have taken some time to sew this week-end and although I had planned to do a lot more than I have, I have managed to make 6 more Zero-Waste Wave Bags.

My first series was with this gorgeous raspberry faux leather.

It was all going so well until I realised I forgot to sew one strap....

Thankfully after a little bit of unpicking, I could fix it and have 2 more bags

One for my daughter's form teacher and one for one music teacher

Next series was the lavender ones

One for the French teacher and one for ...

(Nearly) zero waste bag from Espritpatch

I hadn't listen to a podcast for a long time but a few weeks ago I listen to the Love to Sew episode on zero-waste sewing. I checked the links from the episode and was intrigued by the ZWWave bag pattern by bag.uettes. The shape is beautiful and I figured it should be easy straight forward enough to try this pattern for end of year gifts, especially this year when I have lots to make.

I duly bought the pattern and printed it to try my first bag. The instructions are very clear and the pattern pieces are ...

Make Do and Mend from Becca's Crazy Projects

I bought a simple tote at one of the big box stores several years ago. One of the handles decided it was giving up. Of course, it did this while it was full of charity quilts.
That failed strap became this tangled mess. That's okay, I have all the tools needed to fix this bag so it can get several more years of use carrying charity quilts around.
Step one: measure the width of the strap. We will multiply this by four to determine how wide to cut our fabric strap.
Step two: use this amazing tool from Bucklebee ...

Market Bags from Jean's Quilting Page

I made some market bags using the Vinyl Mesh Market Bag pattern by Cut Loose Press a couple of years ago. I still had some of the mesh left, so paired it with some pretty fabrics and made them last week. I like them for gifting...they are fully mesh and can be used as swim bags too.
I used the commercial belting for the handles, but you could make handles yourself if you wanted them to match better. Not sure where these will go yet, but they are ready for whatever I decide!

Quilting frame bags from Espritpatch

Not exactly exciting sewing today but I am happy I have done it. After finishing my quilting, we took the frame apart but I didn't put it away. I have been meaning to make some bags to keep the parts of the frame together for quite some time but never got around to it. I guess it is quite a boring and easy project so it has not been top priority.

And I knew that if I put the parts away I would still not make them. So this afternoon, I went into my stash where I found a ...
