New Pattern: 9-Patch Pivot, a fat quarter quilt from Carried Away Quilting

Do you love collecting fat quarters, but then struggle to find just the right pattern to actually use them? Well, I have just the answer . . . my newest pattern, 9-Patch Pivot!

9-Patch Pivot calls for just 21 fat quarters plus 1 1/4 yards of neutral, making fabric selection a snap! My sample features the upcoming Harvest Road collection by Lella Boutique for Moda, which will be available in October. This pretty quilt finishes at 66" x 77".

Friends, there are several things you will like about this pattern.  First, it really allows a fabric collection to shine. It’s scrappy ...

Our Longarm Renters Quilted Simple Whole Cloth Quilts from Quilted Joy

Most of the quilts brought in by our longarm machine renters are exactly what you’d expect: pieced beauties ready for quilting. But sometimes renters bring in simple whole cloth quilts with no piecing at all. Now these quilts aren’t what some might consider a “true whole cloth quilt” because the fabrics aren’t solid colors and the quilting isn’t intricate. But we’re not the quilt police here. So because they all quilted single lengths of fabric, I’m gonna call them whole cloth quilts. 😁 Let’s take a look at a few whole cloth quilts recently ...

Winner: Hallo-Harvest layer cake from Carried Away Quilting

It’s time to announce the winner of the Hallo-Harvest layer cake by Basic Grey for Moda. But first, I want to take a moment to thank each and every one of you for leaving a comment. I enjoyed reading them more than you know. Sometimes in this crazy, stressful, busy world, it’s the kind words of strangers that lift us up. Your enthusiasm for my patterns, thoughtfulness and willingness to share a slice from your own life were day brighteners for me.  You have no idea how badly I wish I could ship a layer cake to everyone ...

Fat Quarter Flourish autumn bundles from Carried Away Quilting

Hello quilting friends! After I posted about my autumn quilt ideas earlier this week, I got to thinking that I would love to see my Fat Quarter Flourish pattern sewn up in fall fabrics. So, I mocked up some options using green, orange and black prints from Fig Tree’s Farmhouse II collection.

The great thing about my Fat Quarter Flourish pattern is that it only requires five fat quarters to make the top. And you can easily switch up the fabric placement depending upon what looks best to your creative eye!

Here is the fat quarter bundle I created ...

Autumn quilt ideas and a layer cake giveaway! from Carried Away Quilting

Just a few months ago, I was whining to you about the spring snowstorms we were experiencing in central Minnesota. Well, I’m back with a new weather complaint today . . . it’s 92 degrees F, with a “feels like” temperature of 100 due to the high humidity. Good grief, that’s hot!

While I don’t want to wish away my summer, my mind can’t help but console itself with the thought that in just a few months, autumn will be here. Right now I’m imagining myself taking a long walk wearing bluejeans and a sweatshirt, tromping on ...

New pattern: Fall Flight from Carried Away Quilting

Autumn is my favorite season. Like many of you, I cherish signs of fall:  the spectacle of leaves turning vibrant shades of red, gold and orange; the glimpse of a harvest moon hanging low in the sky; the sight and sound of geese migrating south; and, of course, fields of pumpkin patches and roadside pumpkin stands. In Minnesota, we savor every last bit of autumn in preparation for the long winter that follows.

Every year as summer draws to a close, I feel a thrill when I pull out my autumn quilts for display and snuggling. Today I’m excited ...

~ The Inspiration ~ from Podunk Pretties

I'm often asked what inspires my quilt patterns.  That's a hard question to answer because most of the time it's a collection of ideas stored in my brain over time until I feel the need to put them all together into a quilt.  With this quilt I had an idea that was growing but needed a little something more.  Before continuing with my inspiration for this quilt let me say ....it's hard to believe I'm actually enjoying these colors.  Orange, black, gray and purple rarely find their way into my quilts. So let me tell ...

Fall Foliage from My Quilt Infatuation

My Fall Foliage quilt is finished and I am so excited to share it.  If you missed my last post, this quilt is destined for someone who loves everything about the fall season.  The muted palette of this quilt is way outside of the norm for me but it definitely screams autumn, and I know she is going to love it.

The scattered maple leaf blocks finish at 16 inches and 8 inches, and I designed them with plenty of negative space to keep them looking like they are floating gracefully down the quilt.  I love how the Kona Khaki ...

~ On a Roll ~ from Podunk Pretties

Hi-diddly-O Friends!  For the first time ever working out of my color comfort zone is actually fun.  Whoa...must have something to do with Mercury being in retrograde.  I've no idea what that means, all I know is right now the planet Mercury is doing some weirdo stuff and some say it makes strange things happen.  OOOOO....SPOOKY STUFF!

Well.... out here in Podunk strange stuff happens everyday.  Spooky?  Sometimes...but that's a story for another day.  We'll stick to the strange stuff today.   Example....yesterday morning while letting the chickens out to roam I noticed this ...

~ Fall is in the Air~ from Podunk Pretties

Hi Sweet Quilty Friends!  We had some unseasonably cool weather last week.  It only lasted a couple of days but it was long enough to get the love of Autumn kick started.  Well going shopping at Hobby Lobby was also a big help.  The fall decor this year is loaded with black gingham.  Yeah gingham!  You all know my love of gingham....ANY COLOR!  The starts of a new series of quilt patterns has begun.  Inspiration is a funny thing, you just never know when or where it will happen or where it will lead once it strikes.

While prepping ...
