A Spoonful of Christmas 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Love the first design for today.

I wasn’t happy with the way my day started … no internet, so today’s post is rather late, but I had plenty of time to play with quilt designs while I tried to work out what was wrong, and wonder if it was something I did, or the internet in general. Still don’t really know, but I am attached to the web again.

Designs like these would make it really worthwhile to make the bed every morning!

Fiddlebobs for Christmas 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

New project file, with new fabrics in new colours, and the original blocks which are being modified, but starting with just fabric colour changes.

I think I would like to make one of them, but cannot decide if I would put it on a bed, on a table, or a wall!

Christmas Patch Play 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Very understated Christmas quilt, or a quilt that could be used all year round.

Still understated, but what a lot of space for some spectacular quilting!

Annie Clover’s Christmas Quilts 17, 18 from Virtual Quilter

Traditional Christmas Colours, but if they are favourite colours these could be used all year round.

Love the outer blocks in the second design!

Gingerbread Christmas 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

My favourite sort of gingerbread … no messy kitchen, no crumbs!

To be honest, I love gingerbread, but dislike cooking and cleaning.

However, all the cutters required to make the gingerbread would make great Christmas Tree decorations.

Bendigo Laceworks 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I love old buildings with wrought iron lace around the roof line and the veranda. Bendigo is one place to see a great collection. The colours I have used in this series represent the fertile soil around Bendigo, and other areas where mining was important in the early settlement period, and the farming communities which replaced the miners.

My favourite today is the second design.

Cathedral Window 27, 28 from Virtual Quilter

I love stained glass windows and would love to be able to create my own. In the meantime, I can play with designs for fabric versions.

Love the second design.

Deena’s Delight 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Very dainty and feminine!

Very busy, but with a little room for quilting to share the limelight, and not all of them have been used yet. I need to spend a little bit of time concentrating on the quilting designs.

Red and White Applique 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Red and white together looks stunning, but not something I would like in my bedroom. My favourite design today is the first one.

However, a lot of sporting fans barrack for teams who wear red and white, so there may be a lot of people who would love a red and white quilt on their bed.

Fiddlebobs OP 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Very interesting!

Very interesting, but maybe a bit too tangled up!

Beaded Border Strings 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

One day I played with String of Beads border designs, including getting those borders around corners. The first design shows five identical borders, each with a different corner block.

The second design shows different borders and different corner blocks.

The project file has 20 different borders, with 140 different corners, and some of the corners fit a couple or more different borders.

Interesting sashing, resulting in a lovely design.

Should have used interesting sashing!

Fragile Floral 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

Three days ago I added two Floppy Petal designs … this project file was teh forerunner of that file, but I only did half a dozen designs then added more floppy petals.

I love the flowers, and I should try some of the blocks as machine embroidery. Project for the future sometime.

Sunny Coneflowers 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

I have never seen a patch of sunflowers anywhere near as neat and tidy as this! A neighbours patch sometimes jumps the fence and I have let it stay.

I should rename this project file and change the colours of the flowers so they look more like coneflowers.

Floppy Petals 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

Very pretty.

Note the pale pink border fabric … if I was using that fabric in a real quilt border I would cut it so that the pattern looked like the top and bottom borders … or the side borders.

In Electric Quilt all I had to do was click a couple of times to get the fabric the right way round.

I love the second design, and love the colours!

Fans for My Lady 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

The title of today’s post indicates that it is a new project file. It is not new, and a couple of designs were shared early this century!

I have actually made a quilt using some of these fan designs, but still love playing with the designs, colours and placement of teh blocks in different layouts.

Kelly’s Custom Quilts 41, 42 from Virtual Quilter

Lovely, and interesting.

These quilt designs started with a layout created with a pieced block with just squares and rectangles. In a real quilt the background colours could be the same all over, or could use pale, low contrast fabrics to show the original block in large scale.

Aussie Banksia Carol 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

I like the first design for today, complete with quilting motifs with two thread colours. Changing thread colours id easy when hand quilting, not so much when machining.

The second design is my favourite!

Pansy’s Patches 1, 2 and Sampler from Virtual Quilter

New project sampler of Floral Cross blocks, which have been modified to create borders, along with slight variations for more floral cross designs.

First quilt design in the project file which is not close to perfect!

The second design is much better, but use some more quilting motifs in the border.
