A Whiter Shade of Pale 21 from Virtual Quilter

Getting the contrast right in any quilt is harder than choosing colours … low contrast would be harder, but I love this design.

White Quilting 11 from Virtual Quilter

I love this, despite the background fabric not being very inspiring. I was looking for something to make the quilting show clearly as a virtual quilt rather than a real quilt.

A Whiter Shade on Gold Quilted 12 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting idea … low contrast fabrics for quite complex applique designs.

Applique Elegance 6 from Virtual Quilter

It is only virtually appliqued, but it is rather elegant.

Anna Karena 7 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting, but I think the border is too wide, and could use some quilting.

Patch Play 17 from Virtual Quilter

I am still sorting pieced block designs, so am really loving looking at an applique.

Patch Play Quilted 12 from Virtual Quilter

Love the quilting motifs in this design … all based on the applique blocks.

Lovin’ Spoonful 36 from Virtual Quilter

Looks old fashioned so would look OK in our room, but probably too formal. Perhaps different colour scheme would suit better!

Festival Garden 11 from Virtual Quilter

This is a file I opened to demonstrate how to design a quilt at a quilt exhibition … I saved this one with mismatched background fabrics and colours instead of fabrics in many of the blocks.

It probably took about half an hour or more to change a few blocks and add a few fabrics for this version, with most of that time taken up by just talking to quilters, and occasionally telling them a little about designing quilts.

I can remember that I kept opening up other project files and showing them the sort of designs they liked best, then ...

9P Pretties from EQ5 7 from Virtual Quilter

I started this project file way back in Electric Quilt 5. I was practicing drawing pieced blocks, copying from my scribbles on paper.

Each time I open it I change something … this time I played with the pretty colours, adding a bit more contrast, and then played with the blocks for a few minutes.

One thing I have noticed with this project file … I had already learned to add all the blocks to some sampler style quilt layouts. It is now one of the first things I do once i have selected fabrics and blocks, though there are times when ...

Aunt Flo’s Patch 60 from Virtual Quilter

Plenty of background quilting required, but the lack of lines on the near white sandy colour makes me think of a beach where nobody has been walking since the tide went out. Makes me want to find a stick and draw some lines.

Lovin’ Spoonful 36 from Virtual Quilter

I love this series, and I love the spoon which started it. Every design in this series reminds me of antiques every time I open the Electric Quilt project file. I keep trying to find a much brighter colour scheme, but they just look wrong to me.

Perhaps it is the influence of the antique spoon!

Beaded Blocks and Borders 27 from Virtual Quilter

Simple design, but I can picture this on a newly made bed, and crumpled in the morning, and it would always adding comfort to the room.

Mind you, I would have to twist and tangle the Strings of Beads somehow while i was making a real quilt, just like I do with virtual quilts.

Felicity Anderson Quilts 29 from Virtual Quilter

I like it, but have no idea as to how I would actually do the applique.

Perhaps cheat, and print the designs onto fabric!

Tangled String of Beads 28 from Virtual Quilter

I wonder how many designs could be created using just the one applique shape?

I have a Brother Scan’N’Cut, and though I haven’t used it a great deal, I have managed to fit a few of those leaves into spaces around pieces I am cutting for a current project, which in time will build up a collection of scrappy beads to use.
