Bubbles 11, 12 from Virtual Quilter

I wonder how many bubbles it would take to make a queen size quilt.

I haven’t counted the number of assorted size circles of fabric it takes for any of the blocks in this project file, but it would feel like millions … make that billions … if you had to cut them out by hand and then turn the blocks around and around to get each one stitched down!

Looks like some of the bubbles have formed their own system, copying the solar system perhaps!

Mmmm!

What if the lines joining the bubbles were eliminated, and the bubbles were held ...

Fiddlebobs OP 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design, and I love the name of this project file.

Love the second one!

Today’s virtual task for me is to decorate Christmas trees … the trees I was drawing for this month’s Virtual Quilt Challenge. I will share them tomorrow.

White Quilting 12, 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting design.

I like the second one, but the applique border is too wide.

I like this one … always like wholecloth quilts, though i would choose a nicer background fabric.

I often use uninteresting, dull or plain boring fabrics when I want the design to be the feature, not the background, and this project file is one of those times when the design is way more important than the fabric in the background. What colour would you use in these designs?

Baltimore to Bourke 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

I did this design while trying to work out a good, neutral background colour when there are pieces of white in the objects, and a lot of the alternatives are also used in the applique. I like the design, but not impressed with the background.

Little bit better!

Bush Garland 3, 4 from Virtual Quilter

These blocks were first drawn with pencils on butcher’s paper, then transferred to Electric Quilt 5 … and I still like them.

Australia has some weird and wonderful native flowers, with lots of colour.

Bubbles 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I am thinking that it would be fun to blow some bubbles … and I am much more seriously thinking that I will make a bubbly quilt.

Thank goodness I have a Scan’N’Cut to cut the circles for me, so until I get to stitching all those circles to the background I won’t be going round in circles for days on end!

Then I will get giddy, but perhaps some champagne will help!

Patch Play 23, 24 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting … and all the blocks are based on Electric Quilt library blocks.

More EQ library block modifications … and I love the design.

Beth's Brunsvigia Quilts 7, 8 from Virtual Quilter

I am counting down the years before my two clumps of these bulbs flower … they do not flower for ten years after being disturbed, so I have seven years to wait. The bonus is I brought about 15 bulbs with me, and they will multiply before they flower!

I like the one above, but I would like another strip of boarder around it to stop the bulbs spreading over the path!

In the second design the flowers are part of the border!

Patch Play 21, 22 from Virtual Quilter

Like the first design today … and with a couple of hot days coming up I hope my garden looks as green at the end of the week as this does today … though that is asking for a miracle to hide all the scorch marks from the last lot of hot days!

Looks like the second one has no quilting … but in the real world it would have at least a fair bit of filler, probably cross hatch, in a matching colour, and probably some motifs based on the blocks.

Red and Green OP 9, 10 from Virtual Quilter

Christmas is over, but the leftovers remain!

I think this project file need some holly leaves … another project on the to do list for the new year!

Annie Clover at Christmas 13, 14 from Virtual Quilter

Wow!

Only the colouring in these two designs is Christmas, so they could be used all year round, with colour changes to suit the room.

Or the colours in the room could be changed to suit the quilt. Either way would work!

A project for next Christmas perhaps … possibly a bit late for this year.

I think I like the first one today.

Beth’s Brunsvigia Quilts 6 from Virtual Quilter

I seem to be attracted to green projects at the moment … perhaps it is because the green paddocks have turned to various shades of gold, or I am thinking of the green I am about to let loose from storage in the form of Christmas trees and garlands.

Stained Glass Diamonds 4, 5 from Virtual Quilter

I have never seen stained glass with quite so much colour … would be interesting!

The design above is big enough for a queen size bed, and I think I would definitely choose fabric instead of glass.

Festival Garden 16 from Virtual Quilter

I was browsing and wondering what project file would be a good one to share today.

This one jumped out and said ‘Take me’ … we are sanding paint off kitchen cupboards, and though the majority of the wood dust is coming from the doors which are being sanded outdoors, the frames have to be done in situ. The background colour in this design is the colour of every flat surface in our kitchen at the moment, but with any luck the last bits will be done today, everything can go back into the cupboards and then I can do some ...

Bush Garlands 7 from Virtual Quilter

Not a new project file, but one I found in the deepest, darkest corners of Electric Quilt, with some previously shared.

The flowers are all Australian native flowers, from small to giant plants … the smallest knee high, the largest up to 60 feet tall.

The animals who have slipped in for a look are Aussie too, marsupials about the size of a mouse, who hop like a kangaroo.

Here are some links to some earlier designs in this file, though it appears some have disappeared over time and through computer changes and Electric Quilt updates!

Strawberries and Chocolate from Virtual Quilter

I was sorting block designs and in this project file I was trying to find a background colour to use behind the flowers on the strawberry plants.

I tried adding the strawberries to the top of a chocolate cake! Looks more impressive on chocolate than vanilla icing!

This is more fun than slaving in the kitchen, and there are no dishes to wash!
