Beaded Fans 14, 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

Love playing with beads … I fix, modify and make a few bits of jewellery from time to time, and have been known to add beads to a quilt, and of course, love appliqueing beads to quilts, both real and virtual.

Interesting, though the fans are not going to be very effective on a hot day.

Very interesting! Love it so far, but needs some work.

Tangled String of Beads 33, 34 from Virtual Quilter

Hmm! The centre of the first designs sort of looks like a game of Noughts and Crosses.

I love it.

Second design is much simpler, and I love it … no favourite for today.

Beaded Blocks and Borders Batik 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

I love Strings of Beads, and all the variety of designs possible with just one simple shape.

The second design is my favourite for today!

I wonder how many little leaf shapes would be needed to make todays designs? They not too hard to cut as there are no fiddly corners, and they can be cut more easily with a die cutter, and my Scan’n’Cut makes it even easier, and setting out pattern sheets in Electric Quilt makes it even easier.

Gran’s Bead Box 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Earlier this year I spent a month or so concentrating on drawing a wide variety of beads to applique, then drawing designs using the new shapes, but mixing them up with the traditional simple leaf shape. This is a fun way to waste a few hours, and is a great way to play with beads without the risk of spilling them all over the table, the floor, and anything else within range.

I really should be spending time learning more about machine embroidery as I think these could be interesting embroideries, but I am determined that I will get all ...

Beaded Blocks and Borders 29, 30 from Virtual Quilter

That looks like a huge pile of beads to prepare and stitch, but experience tells me it is not as time consuming as it looks.

Not quite as many beads, but very interesting design.

Beads Again 5, 6 from Virtual Quilter

Interesting.

I love that the rather scrappy look in these designs uses just one multi coloured fabric, and when I save the blocks in My Library they appear as black. I have a picture in my head of the colouring elf in Electric Quilt throwing it’s hands into the air and saying “I give up, what colour can I use for this lot?”

I just want a roll of that fabric to cut up into little leaf shapes so I can scatter beads all over background fabrics

I love the second one!

Brand New Wedding Ring 1, 2 from Virtual Quilter

I was really trying very hard to sort out some new beaded applique blocks, but got distracted by a question which started with two innocent little words.

What if … I made the corner a little bit more elaborate?

Which of course led to trying the idea out in a couple of quilt designs. Now I will try really hard to concentrate on sorting those block designs … and maybe filling in obvious gaps in the collection.

Tangled String of Beads 30, 31, 32 from Virtual Quilter

Wish my jewelry looked this good when it is all tangled!

I have to admit that I sometimes enjoying untangling the real jewelry, but not when I am in a hurry to go out someplace special!

Love all of these three, but the last one is my favourite.

Bunch of Beads 14, 15, 16 from Virtual Quilter

One simple shape, but lots of them!

I didn’t like the first centre, so made a change … much better. I like the new border colour too.

Love the last one!

Christmas Beading 19, 20 from Virtual Quilter

Back to my stash of designs which have been in storage like the Christmas decorations, but then the second available design needed some work … just like some of the decorations when they come out of storage.

Now it looks more like the fireworks of new years eve instead of Christmas …

… but I love it!

Needs some quilting though!

Next year’s project perhaps!

Tangled String of Beads 29 from Virtual Quilter

Love it!

Please note, the daily virtual quilt designs will appear as usual over the next week, but that is because WordPress allows me to schedule ahead. In real life we have visitors coming, going, returning, and sitting around eating, talking and laughing. I will return to what I call normal sometime next week!

Beads Again 5 from Virtual Quilter

Love this one.

I wanted some of my String of Beads designs to be scrap quilts, and tried adding a scrappy selection of fabrics to each block, but found it very time consuming, until I found a couple of fabrics in the fabric library which appeared to be rather scrappy in these designs, but much easier to colour a collection of blocks. If you look closely at this virtual quilt you will see that it is just two fabrics and one of them is the background.
