what would you do if it was 74 degrees in winter! Be outside and take a walk. I did get some stitching done but I got done with a few things outside too and took a walk. Cooler weather returns today – it was nice while it lasted. The trail had so much junk washed […]
read moreHere it is with all those sashings and cornerstones. I'm super pleased with how it turned out. Now I just have to pick out another border fabric and find some backing fabric.
I have several things to announce today.
First, the winner of the Stash 'n Store from the Villa Rosa Blog Hop.
The winner is Marie L.
Cathy B will be getting a set of the blog hop patterns from Villa Rosa Designs.
I pulled 5 other names for different prizes for the Villa Rosa Blog Hop and sent those names to be entered for the other prizes from the sponsors. Each blogger who participated turned in 2 names for the 'big box' prizes. Finalists from my blog are Sarah S. and Quilting Tangent.
Each blogger who participated also turned in ...

It was exciting to find this one showing up again.
And again.
Pinwheel!
Star.
And another of these. As I look over the blocks I think about adding sashing. I also think about rearranging the blocks. I'll let you know what comes of this thinking. I'm sure whatever I ... read more
I played around with blocks in Electric Quilt until I had a couple blocks I wanted to make. I grabbed my Accuquilt Go! and 8 Inch Qube and got cutting.
As usual, it was quick work.
I assembled the pinwheel blocks first.
Then the stars.
This quilt uses the panel as the ... read more
Another 16-patch. I just grabbed some squares of the appropriate colors and arranged them. These are more improv than one would imagine. Green and orange.
I may have played a little loose with my interpretation of "orange" in this block. Purple, green, and orange.
This was exciting because it was the first time block number 20 showed up in the rolls. Black, purple, and pink.
Green and green pinwheel.
I enjoy these little economy blocks so much. I want to put them in so many things. Pink, gray, and orange.

This block is kind of busy.
This one pulls colors from one print.
This one is a rainbow of fun. Red and green together!
Another one pulling colors from a single print.
Even when I let the dice pick the colors I still get to pick the fabric.
Sometimes the outcome is interesting.
Ore just a wonderful surprise. Two more weeks of daily blocks.
This week saw a couple blocks that hadn't made in yet. Like this one. Technically it is a two color block but I used four different prints for the blue.
I like to use the larger pieces to showcase larger prints.
Like this one. That rainbow dog fabric is delightful.
Two yellows!
I love this large flower print.
Sunflowers.
I think this is the last large piece of that flower print I've been using as a green. Do you have any long-term projects planned for 2023?
This block is such a delight.
Bigger pieces means I can use bigger prints.
These are just so much fun to put together.
Look at that fussy-cut treasure map!
I was so excited when this block came up. So different from the rest. It would make a great alternate block.
Sometimes I put unlikely things together.
Halfway there!
This week I managed to cut and sew each randomly generated block on the day I rolled it.
This week I had more than a couple blocks that had doubles. This one had double green.
This one had double white.
This one is double yellow.
Sometimes there is an easy block. The pinwheel is one of those.
I think this one is my favorite of all the blocks. I could make an entire quilt using just this block.
I'm going to be able to make some interesting layouts with how many of these I'm getting ... read more
Each block is a fun way to relax after work.
Some days I don't have time to sew the block.
Last week I didn't sew for three days.
I did manage to generate the blocks, pick the fabrics, and cut the pieces for each block on the day it was generated.
Then I sewed them together when I did have ... read more

Each base Qube (there is a companion set that adds shapes) can make 72 blocks. This is not all inclusive, this is just the number of 8" blocks they identify in their downloadable pattern booklet. These are just a starting ... read more
I firmly believe that anyone who has a voice can sing. Whether their singing is pleasant to hear or not is another story altogether. Similarly, I can make a quilt with any group of colors. Will that grouping be aesthetically appealing? That depends on the design.
December Challenge! |
Four times a year when the challenge is combined with a blog hop, we the Island Batik ambassadors are required to use one of the new fabric collections, assigned to us. Further we are directed to use as many fabrics (from the collection) as possible.
I was assigned the Chickadee Fabric Collection ...
read moreOnce upon a time, very long ago, when I was a brand new quilter, I came across the Disappearing 9-Patch Quilt Pattern. Sewing a 9-patch block and then cutting it into quarters for FOUR blocks was mind-blowing.
Sewing first and cutting later was truly fascinating. It also meant less sewing, easier piecing and improved accuracy. This was a Win, Win, Win!!! Except for one small problem - it created a mindset. I am forever looking to simplify patterns such that I sew first and cut later.
Meet Granny Long Legs - completely strip-pieced.
