As the daylight hours decrease and the darkness envelops the northern hemisphere, Hindus all over the world celebrate Diwali - the festival of lights. You may have seen the newish British Prime Minister and his family celebrate Diwali at 10 Downing Street.
I have talked about my Diwali Memories and I made my first Diwali Quilt last year.
This year when Island Batik gave us the choice to make a quilt project "celebrating" our favorite holiday, I knew instantly that I will be making a Diwali Quilt, using a fabric collection called Celebrate!!! Could there be a more appropriate fabric line ...

In the end, it worked out okay. Just don't do this to your long arm quilter.
Did you try something new in October? The challenge was to try a new technique, ruler, use a color palette that you don’t typically use, or anything else new to you.
I tried making clamshells. One of my quilty friends has been showing progress on a clamshell quilt she is making and I could not resist trying one of my own. There is a big difference between hers and mine though. She is making big clamshells with the Clammy Ruler and mine are just a little bitty four-inches. I love her quilt and love curved piecing so thought it ...
read moreI decided to do some sorting by size.
My goal was to cut some of those leftovers into usable pieces. I sorted the scraps into some general sizes. These sizes become binding, borders, and blocks.
Then I sat down with my biggest leftovers, in this case the pieces that could easily be cut into 6.5" squares. These are the easiest to make into a charity quilt quickly. Thirty squares sewn in five rows of six squares and you almost ... read more
Meet Radiance. She is my response to the October challenge.
Radiance! |
Let's start from the beginning.
October's Challenge is sponsored by Accuquilt. In our Island Batik Ambassador Box, we received the Accuquilt Block on Board Die - North Carolina Star.
Star of North Carolina is a traditional block made with paper-piecing AND partial seams - two of my absolute nemeses ganged up against me!!!
Fortunately, Accuquilt has simplified the block such that there are no partial seams. However, in doing so the number of fabric pieces ...

Finally I can see the end in sight for the Carpenter’s Wheel. Only two blocks left to make – figure out final arrangement, sew rows and then add a border of one or two background colors and done. The bright yellow block was finished yesterday. Linking to Midweek Makers #400 Next one to make – […]

The block center squares and the borders give each quilt its own flavor.
I spent part of the day slicing and dicing fabric – I got the fabric pressed, the accuquilt out and two projects had progress made on them – no sewing on the Carpenter’s Wheel but I have just a little more cutting to do on hexies and then that machine will get put in back […]

Another finish for the year – I believe this was the 3rd finish on the quilting frame from the beginning of the year. Court Jester was made with the 8 inch AccuQuilt BOB Snail’s Trail (I always get my dies when they are on sale and didn’t pay anywhere near the price it is now, […]
read moreI chose to make two quilts - Sea Salt and Rainbow Kiss.
Sea Salt is a baby sized version based on my Masala Box pattern. I picked out bright blues and greens from the Island Batik Basics (these are available all year round) and paired them with Island Batik solid white background.
