soul searching finish from Making A Lather

I finished this quilt last week, but couldn't get a picture. I made it last year as part of the rainbow scrap challenge. Each month of the color, I made a block. By the end of the year, I had a quilt. I really like following along each month to use up scraps and to stay inspired. I have seen some remarkable quilters and their projects.

This quilt was great at using 2 1/2 inch strips of scraps. I tried to do a machine binding, and I am still happier with a hand sewn binding.

This quilt is ...

Finally A Finish! from Life In Pieces

It's been a nice long weekend. I have some vacation that has to be used or I give it back, so I was able to take last Friday off.  It's been nice to get some extra time in the sewing room for a change.  I used my time wisely, Vintage Dresses is finally finished.

rainbow finish from Making A Lather

As my first finish along finish for the 4th quarter, I have finished last year's rainbow scrap challenge quilt.
All it needed was quilting and binding.

I think it looks great as a rainbow quilt. It was much larger than expected. 72 x 82 At the same time I worked on the block in the color of the month, I made the hsts in that color.

The backing was a large piece of stash fabric with 2 inch polka dots all over. very cute

My finish along list is here

2019 Finish Along: 4th Quarter Ambitions from Life In Pieces

The year of 2019 is winding down way faster then I'd like it too.  Now it's time to decide what can be finished in the three short months left in the year.  My third quarter ambitions for the 2019 Finish Along were a complete bust, zero, nada, zilch finishes for the quarter.  Is there any hope for fourth quarter finishes?

Maybe.  There were no finishes last quarter, but there was good progress on two or three projects. A shoe in finish is Vintage Dresses.

4th quarter finish along from Making A Lather

It's the fourth quarter for the 2019 finish along. And it is time to make a list of what I might get finished in the next three months. This is my first year joining the finish along. I think it has helped me actually finish a few extra projects. Making the list is hard, since we can list more than we finish, but not less.  So it is ok to go big.
I also have a list I want to do by month - One monthly goal at elm street quilts. I find that a little easier to keep track ...

En Provence finish from Making A Lather

Despite throwing back surgery into the month of July, I did finish my goals for the month. August will be a different story, I am sure. Unless, watching tv can be a goal.
I finished En Provence mystery quilt to the point of hand sewing the binding before surgery, and I have slowly worked on that while in the recliner. En Provence was 2016 mystery quilt from Bonnie Hunter at Quiltville. I have on Ringo lake and good fortune to finish yet. I had already finished en provence in the quiltville colors. I did two of them, this one using ...

allietare 2015 from Making A Lather

I am scheduling this post ahead, and hoping I am recovering well from surgery. I am really excited to have finished this quilt. This is the 2015 quiltville mystery quilt allietare. I had the top together before it was set aside. I did add borders. This is Bonnie Hunter's 14th mystery and my 15th finished. I have 3 more to go to have all the mystery quilts done. I really hope that I have them done before the next mystery is released in November.

I really like the colors.

This is part of my finish a long goals and ...

2019 Finish Along: Third Quarter Ambitions from Life In Pieces

Monday will mark the half way point in July.  Seems this month is going just as fast as the rest of the year has gone.  So fast that it's hard to believe it's time to select a set a few projects that might just get finished before the end of the September as part of the 2019 Finish Along.

I have a quilt plan for the year.  The three quilts for first quarter are done, but none of the quilts planed for second quarter finishes are off the list yet.  So those are a good place to start ...

wiggle finish from Making A Lather

I have a finish for the rainbow scrap challenge this week. I found the pattern in a magazine, and it was called rainbow baby, but, I recognized the name of the designer of one of my favorite bloggers, Cynthia Brunz. She has the pattern called wiggle time, and can be found here at quilting is more fun than housework. I really like it in rainbow colors. This was my first machine only binding. I could use more practice, but it will be fine for a baby. This is my 9th finish for the year.

I started it here and here ...

finish along goals from Making A Lather

I finished 4 quilts for the 2019 finish along in the second quarter. I have plenty of goals leftover for the third quarter.  I will be having back surgery in the next week, so I don't know how much that will effect my sewing and blogging or for how long.
I am working on the binding for allietare, and, I have sugar mountain ready to put on the long arm.

I have a few more garden party blocks, and

another batch of 50 -4 patches for sand castles.

My list for the 3rd quarter:
1.wiggle time
2. allietare ...

Wrapping up the June One Monthly Goal from Life In Pieces

It's been pretty much a do nothing Saturday.  We woke up and found three college girls asleep in the living room. The Scientist in training was home for the first time since summer semester started. This was the first chance since Christmas that the high school girlfriend pack has been able to meet up. So that meant I couldn't do too much of anything around the house. Which was 100% OK with me.  Work was just weird and wired this week, I was ready for a day of down time.

It's the next to last day of ...

smith mountain morning finish from Making A Lather

My silly hubby, He found a cut up shirt sleeve and put it on my smith mountain morning quilt and informed me He had put the sleeve on my quilt for me since I hate to do it. lol

We had a lovely day to photo the quilt outdoors.

This will be part of my finish along finishes. and my one monthly goal for June. It seems that it has taken forever to finish. I took a class with Bonnie Hunter in Lafayette Indiana in October 2013. It is included in her book scraps and shirttails 2. I had all ...

Checking One Off the To Do List from Life In Pieces

It's been a whirlwind month.  April started with a week long business trip, followed by two weeks of some type of respiratory crud, a trip to see the Scientist in Training for Easter and then a weekend away for a family wedding.  Not a lot of time for stitching, so I wasn't sure that my "to do" item for the April One Monthly Goal was going to get checked off the list.

The plan was to finish the binding on the Christmas Mystery quilt. With all the travel and not feeling well, it wasn't as easy to ...

cactus patch quilt from Making A Lather

I have a finish, and even though I haven't found a sunny day, I took photos.  It is a queen sized quilt from a Bonnie Hunter pattern in scraps and shirttails. I blogged about it here. I made it using "made " fabric as the center squares and recycled shirts as the sashings.

I did a free motion swirl pattern all over the quilt on my long arm. Even with the wind, there is always an errant thread somewhere. haha

This is one of my goals for the 2019 finish along. My goals are listed  here.

2019 Finish Along: Second Quarter Ambitions from Life In Pieces

We are already at the end of the second week in April,  almost half way through the first month of the second quarter.  The linky party for the Second Quarter 2019 Finish Along is up and running.

So it's time to focus on what might become a finish before the end of the quarter.  Back in December of last year, I put together a list of quilts to finish up in 2019.  So far only one quilt has come off the list, but I'm close too finishes on the next two.  So those will definitely go on the ...

April finish along from Making A Lather

A sunshiney day and, a sunshine quilt that is finished. I took advantage of sunshine to take photos of another quiltville mystery quilt finished. This grand illusion is the second one I have done. The first one was in the recommended colors, and, this one, I used Denise Schmidt fabrics.

This is my 14th finished mystery quilt with 4 more to go.  There are only 16 mystery quilts but, I did 2 of 2 different mysteries. To see them go here.

This is #3 on my list for the 2019 finish along. I almost had it done in the 1st ...

Weekend Stitching: How's it Going? from Life In Pieces

Weekend's are definitely too short.  March was too short. April marks the start of the second quarter of 2019.  One fourth of the year is already over.  There's still three quarters of the year left. Seems like a good time to check on how well I'm doing with those lofty quilty goals outlined in this post for the 2019 Planning Party.

First goal was UFO reduction.  The strategy for 2019 was to pick and prioritize 12 quilts.  I'd start with #1 on the list and work on it till it was done and then move on ...

Weekend Stitching: Finally a Finish from Life In Pieces

Spring finally made an appearance this weekend.  Temperatures hit the high 60's with lots of sun.  Even better, it's spring break time so the Scientist in Training made it back to town Friday evening in time for dinner.  This is her first trip home since the start of spring semester. It's been nice to have her home, though she's spent most of Saturday crashed out on the couch and then most of Saturday evening working on homework. She'll be home all week, so we've got plans for some fun stuff.  Consequently stitching may or ...

2019 Finish Along Projects from Blended Fabric Quilts | Good Earth Quilting | Organic Quilting Cotton

I have soooo many things to finish, I don't know if I can even come up with a list of it all.

#FAL2019 really got me thinking. I have to get serious about finishing my work. I confess, I do tend to lean towards eclectic. I walk with my hand of creation diaily and the load gets heavier instead of lighter.

When I opened a drawer of two of unfinished projects, I closed it immediately! Phuef! That was close to a stressful moment. I am avoiding stress in any form these days. But after a while, the drawer memory ...
