We Can Get Through Anything from High Road Quilter

When I mentioned that this block made me think of coronavirus and how this block may provide historical context to the quilt as well as being uplifting to future quilt viewers, my blog readers convinced me to add my thoughts to the quilt. "If we can get through corona virus, we can get through anything."

It was my last week of work and I don't expect much work from this employer for the rest of 2020.  It's been raining and storming at night, which means I have to sleep on the couch to keep Zeus company since he ...

Week 13 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

Learning to work at home has been an experience. But I'm grateful that we are all together and are able to social distance. After a week and half, I think we've got our work from home spaces figured out.

Sorry there was no 15 Minutes to Stitch linky party last week. My heart and head just weren't in it last weekend, I couldn't figure out a way to even start a blog post. So rather than force it, I just let it rest.  So this week you can share how the last two weeks have gone ...

Quote Quilt Progress from High Road Quilter

Sometimes I hesitate to post a midweek progress post, in case there isn't anything picture-worthy to post at the end of the week. I hesitated this week too, but I have plenty more to show you that I added to the quote quilt during the second half of the week.

This elephant comes from a fabric that I purchased myself. It is probably the only fabric I have ever bought for myself that was bought at full price.   I have heard of the philosophy that instead of buying lots of things on sale, you should buy that one special ...

Week 11 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It's been a weird week at work. Unfortunately, that's likely to continue for a few weeks till the spread of  Covid-19 slows down.  Most meetings  have been moved to remote access to limit the number of people in the same room and business travel is restricted.  We're not working from home as yet, but that may be coming.  But so far all the weirdness is not impacting my ability to work in 15 minutes of stitching time.

This week was really good on the stitching front.

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/March ...

Quote Quilt Stories from High Road Quilter

Hello welcome back! I am sure you are here for the latest update on the Inspirational Quote Crazy Quilt.  In our last post, I showed you how I used some markers to color in a stamp on the quilt. This week, I decided to add some Inktense pencils. It was a simple matter of adding some color to the tiny bits that would be too tedious to embroider. The petals on the small flower are so tiny that one little dab of the pencil and the whole flower has a color.

Then I got the bright idea of writing over ...

Week 10 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

Spring is slowly trying to drive out the winter weather.  It's been warmer this week. But you still don't want to leave the house without you winter coat in the mornings.  I'm feeling a lot better after having the flu the week before, but still tired.  I seem to be spending my computer and stitching time sleeping in the recliner.  I've had to struggle to get in my stitching time most evenings.  Have you been able to find some stitching time this week?

Though it's been a struggle to stay awake long enough to get ...

My Favorite Photos from February from High Road Quilter

I usually don't have enough photos to share in February, but since we had gone to the park for the photo shoot / quilt exhibit, I do have enough to share this month. Not all of the photos were taken at the park. Some were taken in the neighborhood.

I have also included my 15 minutes to stitch this week at the bottom of the post.

2020:  Week 9 of 15 Minutes to Stitch

I worked on the March mini quilt this week and the Inspirational Quote Crazy Quilt.

15 minute days this week -- 7 out of 7 days

Week 9 of 2020: Stitching, Stash, and Slow Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

I'm about 70% back to normal after a week of having the flu.  I'm still coughing to the point my chest is sore and my energy levels haven't returned to normal yet. But I'm doing much better than I was for most of the week.  Hopefully your stitching efforts this week were much more productive than mine.

I didn't really feel really bad till Monday night when the high fever kicked in. Hand stitching was doable most of the week, except for the one day that my head hurt so bad, not much of anything ...

Week 8 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It was a long, cold week. Montana was oh so pretty, but oh so cold. I was glad to get home to slightly warmer weather and my sewing room.  Finding time to stitch each day didn't work out so well for me.  Were you able to find those 15 minutes to stitch each day?

My week was one where the best laid plans for last week didn't pan out.  My embroidery wouldn't fit in the suitcase once I'd packed my steel toed boots and my FRC.  Turns out it wouldn't have mattered anyway, we didn ...

Clues to Future Posts from High Road Quilter

I have been stitching every day this week, but I can't show you what I am working on. I guess I could show you, but it is more fun for you to see the completed version.

I will be showing you my red quilt on the 20th for the Color It Red blog hop.  If you remember, my clue for that is that it uses yo-yos. It is already finished, so this week I worked on my mini quilt for March.

The March mini is also for the Dust Off an Old Book blog hop so I can only ...

Week 7 of 2020: Just Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It was bitterly cold much of the week.  It was really hard to get dressed and walk out to the car just to go to work.  Some weeks it would be so nice to be able to just stay home in the warm sewing room.  One of these days I'll retire and not have to head out in the cold for work. That's not happening anytime soon since the Scientist in Training is planning to go to grad school.  No matter I suppose, it was still a good week in the sewing room.   How did your stitchy week ...

My Quilting Week from High Road Quilter

Once a month, if I get around to it, I share my favorite pictures I took during the month. Winter is not a good picture taking season for me, but I did manage to get a few. These are my favorite pictures in January.

2020:  Week 6 of 15 Minutes to Stitch

My stitching week consisted of making the hearts quilt I showed in my last post. I made two blocks for the shirts quilt. I need to make just two more before the row will be finished. I also cut some fabric and started on the quilt I am ...

Week 6 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It was a stressful week.  This year seems to be the year for the unplanned and unexpected, at work anyway.  So I was ready for the weekend.  We met up with the Scientist in Training for lunch on Saturday and had a great afternoon hanging out and catching up.

One downside of a stressful week is the late evenings. I had one of those last week.  I ended up reading for what was left of the evening to clear my head before going to bed.  So it wasn't a perfect week, but that's going to happen occasionally.  Even ...

Week-long Variety Show from High Road Quilter

02/02/02. It's the 33rd day of the year and there are 333 days left. Superbowl Sunday and Groundhog Day. It feels like spring. What more can you ask for?

I wanted to take a break from the yo-yo quilt, but wasn't done with handwork, so I took out an old unfinished quilt. This quilt is made with blocks from a block swap. I have some embroidery on it already, but there is plenty of room for more.

I am not good at embroidery but anytime I do improv or folkart work, I feel the need to ...

Week 5 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

Yeah for three day weekends!  The company I work for allows us one day off each month if we agree to work an 8.5 hour day.  I took my monthly day off on Friday.  It was nice to have a day to rest, relax, and recharge after a busy month of performance reviews, goal setting and business travel. Even better, I got to spend most of my day in the sewing room, so I made up for my missed stitching time earlier in the week when I was in New Orleans. How did your stitching plans go for the ...

Yo-Yo Progress from High Road Quilter

The little princess was tucked neatly into the bed.

This is how I found her in the morning. She must have found the pea. Or maybe Zeus decided he wanted to sleep on the bed.

Where we left off in making the yo-yos:

I used up all of the reproduction fabric Wendy gave me to make yo-yos (pillows) and mattresses. Or maybe they are coins and billion dollar bills.

I used up all of the English Garden fat quarter pack.

I used up the parts of the other fat quarter pack I had bought for this. It was designed to ...

Week 4 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

I was definitely ready for a weekend.  The work week seemed really long. Why? Maybe because of the winter weather, maybe because My Guy was sick or maybe it was because it was week full of meetings.  I definitely needed some sanity stitching this week!

A few evenings all I managed was 15 minutes, but that's the goal.

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/January = 25/25 days
15 minute days/2020 = 25/25 days
Success rate = 100%

I'm off to a good start on my stitching time goals for 2020.  Unfortunately, I've ...

Weekly Recap from High Road Quilter

All of my stitching time this week has been spent making yo-yos and more yo-yos. This is one of those projects that because I need so many, I could easily divide it into chunks and maybe make a few a month until I get them done.

But I found that they are quite addictive and lots of fun to make. So addictive in fact that I spent more than the allotted 15 minutes. I might even be sad when I get to the end, but I know I still need to put them together.

Throughout the yo-yo making experience, I ...

Week 3 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

It was a cold and wet week. Now it's sunny, but still cold and windy.  Winter has finally set in for a visit and I'm definitely feeling it's already over stayed it's welcome.  On the other hand the cold weather makes it easier to get in those 15 minutes of stitching each day because I certainly didn't want to be out and about doing much of anything else.

So far January has been a good month on the stitchy front.

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/January = 18/18 days

Week 2 of 2020: Stitching Stuff from Life In Pieces

The first full week back at work was challenging. Lots of meetings.  I was ready for the weekend and spending more than 15 minutes playing in the sewing room. Was your first full week of 2020 a bit challenging?

Being off work for two weeks over the holidays disrupted my typical schedule. It was hard to get back in the groove of working in stitching time in the evening.

15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
15 minute days/January = 11/11 days
15 minute days/2020 = 11/11 days
Success rate = 100%

I did find my 15 minutes each ...
