WIP Inventory from High Road Quilter

Having finished a couple of small quilts, I decided to take inventory of my current works in progress and their current status.  I am hoping that this will help me see that progress is being made during the spring and summer slowdown. These are just the quilts I have been working on in the last few months, and not the other unfinished projects that are stored away.

Some people might be overwhelmed by the number of projects listed here, but I really enjoy getting to choose which project I want to work on. Since they are not standing in a ...

Week 11 of 2019: Stitching and Destashing from Life In Pieces

Weekends at the end of rush around weeks are so nice.  My big work project for the year had things due this week, those got checked off the list on Friday.  My Guy spent his week overseeing the 5th grade science demos for 16 elementary schools (850 students).  I worked both the morning and afternoon sessions on Thursday, then helped with break down and clean up. The demos are a lot of fun, but it was a mental work out keeping the larger groups engaged and out of trouble during my demonstration. How the teachers handle a class of 26 ...

Week 10 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

It's been a busy week with not a lot of time to sew in the evenings.  There were a few days where stitching in the morning was the only way to fit in my 15 minutes for the day.

Gym time, Ash Wednesday and an award dinner took up a lot of my evenings this week.  My Guy won an award for the work he does as the committee chair of a science program for 5 graders in the area and was also nominated for an award for one of his technical projects at work.  Even with the extracurricular ...

Butterfly Wreaths -- Quilted Scalloped and Bound from High Road Quilter

I finished quilting the scallops for Butterfly Wreaths.  It wasn't as hard as I expected it to be.  I wound up having the exact amount of thread I needed to make that last row of quilting. I switched to another slightly darker thread, which will be fine because it shows on the back and not the front. I followed the instructions to make bias binding, and I wound up having the exact amount of fabric for binding this quilt. When you add in the seam allowance, the scallops don't wind up being as deep as they looked when ...

Week 9 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

February is over and we are a few days into March. The forecasted wind chill for today is the coldest we've seen for 2019.  I'm starting to wonder if spring is ever going to show up.  I shouldn't complain too much as this is perfect stitching weather. Are you finding at lest 15 minutes of stitching time in an effort to hide from the cold this week?

It's been a good week on the stitching front for me.

15 minutes stitching days/week = 7/7 days
15 minutes stitching days/Feb = 27/28 days

Time to Quilt from High Road Quilter

When I showed you my progress on Uncommon and Unexpected, I thought I was done with the quilt top and just needed to quilt it.  There are a lot of quilts in the queue to be quilted and that is where I need to be making progress. I decided to clean up the space since I wouldn't be needing any fabric, cutting supplies, quilt.

Before we go any further, can we just stop and admire those stars in the quarter triangles used as cornerstones? So many of them turned out to be whole stars. I don't ...

Week 8 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

It's been a busy weekend.  We judged the senior division at the District Science Fair yesterday. After that we hit the road to pay the SIT a visit. She was supposed to come home this weekend, but her homework load and test schedule wasn't cooperating.  Finding time to stitch with all that going on has been a bit of a challenge.

So it wasn't a perfect week on the stitching front, but it wasn't all bad.

15 minutes stitching days/week = 6/7 days
15 minutes stitching days/Feb = 22/23 days

This Week's Quilting Progress from High Road Quilter

Circle Block 264

I sat down to watch a show (Frontline) and thought I should be stitching something, and since I had talked about the Stitch Meditations, I thought some handwork would fit the bill.  I made a circle block instead of a separate Stitch Meditations to make more progress on that quilt. It reminds me of a shirt I had a long time ago.

Jeans Quilt

I was going through my bedroom, using the Konmari method, ala Marie Kondo, and found this quilt in the bench/chest. This quilt is one of my oldest, if not THE oldest UFO ...

I Can Stop Anytime I Want from High Road Quilter

When I started making the butterfly wreath blocks, I decided to just make a few and when I get bored, put whatever I have together into a quilt and call it done. Each set of fabrics make 8 HSTs and there are two HSTs from each set in each block, so each set of three fabrics make four blocks. Some of the HSTs do have to get rejected for size, especially ones that use charm squares.  Charm squares are sometimes slightly bigger or smaller than 5 inches so they don't play well with the others.

I made a few ...

Week 7 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

February is half over, hopefully that means that winter is on it's way out.  Though you certainly wouldn't know it based on the weather.  I'm ready to be done with the ice, it took us 15 minutes to clean off the car so we could get home on Friday.  On the plus side, this is perfect stitching weather.  Not much better than hanging out with a warm iron and the sewing machine on those icy days.  Have you been able to take advantage of the weather to get in some good stitching time?

My stitching week was ...

Week 6 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

Where did this week go?  Friday is the 15th of the month, so we are already almost halfway through February.  Work has been definitely unfun the last week, but at least the sciatic nerve pain is almost gone.  The challenge with getting in my 15 minutes this week was just having the energy to climb the stairs to the sewing room.  How have you been doing on getting in at least 15 minuets to stitch each day?

It wasn't a bad week, but I just met the 15 minutes a couple of nights, bed was just more attractive than ...

Yet Another New Project from High Road Quilter

I know what you are thinking. This girl needs a new project. I am happy to oblige!  I haven't started it yet, but this one has been percolating for a while, and I want to make sure I post the links to the path that got me to this idea, because I am going to need them in the future.  It is just an idea so it is subject to change, but here are the thoughts that are leading me to it, in no particular order. I am not going to be using their pictures, so this post will ...

Week 4 of 2019: Stashing and Stitching from Life In Pieces

I'm ready for a day of rest, it's been a busy weekend.  We made the trek west to see the Scientist in Training on Friday.  We had a nice visit, thankfully it warmed up enough so it wasn't miserable being outside, so we got in a lot of walking around campus.  It was a challenge to get in my 15 minutes of stitching time, but I pulled it off, barely.  How did you do at working in some stitching time each day?

I had a pretty good week on the stitching front.
15 minutes stitching days/week ...

My Quilting Week from High Road Quilter

I've been cutting up scraps of fabric and applique pieces for most of this year, so when I finally got to sit down at a sewing machine and quilt the Vintage Holiday quilt, I tell you, it was just bliss.  I even forced myself to take a break midway to allow myself time to savor it.  I didn't realize how much I missed sitting in front of the sewing machine!

I decided not to birth it and still need to bind it, but since I missed the deadline for Project Quilting, I'm wondering if I should move ...

Week 3 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

We didn't get any of the snow or ice, but we did get the bitter cold and the the high winds with the weather system that came through on Friday.  Perfect weather to just hang out in the sewing room and tick off day seven of finding at least 15 minutes to stitch this week.

Finding those 15 minutes each evening was easier this week than it was last week.

15 minutes stitching days/week = 7/7 days
15 minutes stitching days/Jan = 17/19 days
15 minutes stitching days/2019 = 17/19 days
Success rate = 89.74%

15 Minutes to Stitch Weekly Recap from High Road Quilter

15 Minute to Stitch Challenge:

Week Two

I missed posting last week, and since each week was different, I will post each week separately.  For the second week of the month, I worked on new projects. I needed to decide on my next scrap quilt so I could tame the scraps and my idea for the Butterfly Wreaths needed 5 inch squares, which is bigger than most of the scraps in the scrap box, so I also decided to work on a rail fence to use up the smaller scraps. This week was spent cutting and sewing a few pieces ...

Week 2 of 2019: Stitching and De-Stashing from Life In Pieces

It's been a good weekend to stay home.  We started the weekend with the rain, the wind and the cold.  Not as cold as it was up north, but wet and cold enough to be really miserable if you were out in it.  It did finally get cold enough to snow.  So it was definitely a good weekend to stay in and play catch up on my sewing time for the week.

The second week of January wasn't one of my best for getting into the sewing room.  We celebrated the Scientist in Training's 20th birthday last ...

My Plans for the Year 2019 from High Road Quilter

Just a preview of things you may expect to see on this blog. It is another sunny day and although I shouldn't be making plans on sunny days because they tend to be overreaching, it is good to dream and maybe accomplish some of those dreams.

I signed up for the Dust Off a Quilt Book Blog Hop with Beaquilter. The goal is to take a book off the shelf, dust it off and make a project out of it. I already have a project I have started from a book on my shelf, and my hope is that ...

15 Minutes to Stitch 2019 from High Road Quilter

My original plan was to change my blog posts to Monday so I can show you 7 days of stitching this week, but Sundays are really a better day to do this, both for me, and for the other people on this challenge, so here goes this week's numbers.

15 Minute to Stitch Challenge:

This week, I spent a lot of time cutting up pieces - for Sunlight in Winter and for the ATC holder. Earlier in the week, I also did some quilting on the drunkard path quilt. Today, I worked on a pieced border for the rail fence ...

Week 1 of 2019: Stitching, De-stashing and a Final Look at 2018 from Life In Pieces

The first week of the 2019 is now on the books.  Overall, it wasn't a bad week. The first few days back at work were meeting free, allowing me a chance to get my feet back under me after a week and a half of vacation.  Getting back into my evening stitching groove hasn't been too hard.  How did you do at working stitching in to your week now that the holidays are over?

I restart my 15 minute and stash reports on January 1st, so my weekly report only covers the 5 days of 2019.

15 minutes ...
