Stitching Stuff: Week 16 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

It was a busy week. Taxes took up a good part of Monday.  By Wednesday, I was mostly caught up on laundry. Still a bit behind on my monthly chores, but a few of those were knocked out. We had nasty storms on Wednesday and Friday.  The storms meant I had to shut down my stitching a bit early so I could unplug my machine.  These storms had a lot of lighting. I got caught in nickel/quarter sized hail on my way home from a doctor's appointment Wednesday afternoon. We spent a good 20 minutes in the storm ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 15 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

We were on the road for most of the last 2 weeks.  We visited My Girl for Easter.  We drove down the Wednesday before to attend a behind the scenes view of the Terracotta Warrior display at the Houston Museum of Natural History.  We saw this exhibit when we visited My Girl at Thanksgiving. We had a wonderful guide for the behind the scenes viewing, learned so much more than when we went through it on our own.  Since Our Girl had to work, after Easter we drove up to Chappell Hill for a few days and did some wildflower ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 14 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

Happy Easter!

It's been one of those weeks.  I'm still dealing with memory problems on the computer.  I may have found a work around that prevents the memory from completely filling up. It's not a fix, but it does prevent the computer from crashing. Fingers crossed it continues to keep the computer mostly operational. I'm hoping to get caught up with email and blog reading over the next week.

On the stitching front, it wasn't a bad week, but I certainly didn't get the sewing time I'd hoped to.

I Made a Dozen Quilts in a Dozen Weeks from High Road Quilter

As we were nearing the end of the first quarter at the beginning of last week, I was thinking about how many quilts I had made already an because it was a good number, I made a bigger push to finish even more quilts. I have recorded a show and tell video and am in the process of editing it now. II will publish it on my Quilt and Color YouTube channel when it is finished in a day or two.

I've shown you a lot of finishes here throughout the year, but I haven't shown you all ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 13 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

My computer is having memory problems again. The last update apparently did something to how things are running.  So I've had some issues getting and staying on line.  If I disappear for a bit you'll know why.

Having computer problems does lead one to spend a lot more time in the sewing room. So it was another pretty good week on that front.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Mar = 28/28 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 87/97 days
  • Sucess rate = 100%

Most of focus in the sewing room has been on my ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 12 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

My apologies for not getting this post up earlier today.  I've been dealing with some back issues this weekend. Sitting in front of the computer wasn't comfortable at all yesterday.  I slept in this morning because I was feeling a lot better.  So the post is a lot later than I planned.  Stitching time still happened, but not nearly as much as usual.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Mar = 21/21 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 80/80 days
  • Success rate = 100%

I'm hoping the back issue is managed for now and ...

Relaxing 15 Minutes to Stitch Week 11 from High Road Quilter

This was my week off from the Project Quilting challenges. The new one was announced today. So hard to believe that this is the last theme for the year.

The theme is Happy Handful in which we make something small enough to hold in your hand. My Pocket Hugs would work for that.

Marsha Cooper wanted more information about these, but she may be a no-reply blogger, so I will answer here. It is not a formal organization or anything, so they can be any size, or shape. Pocket Hugs are little things you can make (or buy) to give ...

Busy 15 Minutes to Stitch Week 10 from High Road Quilter

This week was Project Quilting Challenge week, with today being the submission date. But since I submitted a quilt earlier in the week, I felt like my "off week" started early, and I have been busy relishing my time off.

I finished a bonus quilt.  I showed both of my quilt finishes in my last two posts.  Then, I worked on making progress on already started quilts.

I added some more patches to repair the bunk bed quilt my mother made. counted what still needs to be made for my Lupine and Laughter quilt.

I made more "snake" for my ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 11 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

It was one of those winter/spring weeks.  Winter a day, then spring a day, then repeat. My sinuses aren't happy with the wild shifts.  The forecast says we'll have another week of that in our future.  It's definitely made hanging out in the sewing room more attractive.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Mar = 14/14 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 73/73 days
  • Success rate = 100%

So not surprising it was a good week on the time front, not so great on getting things done.  It's not from lack of ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 10 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

We've had glimpses of spring this week.  The higher temps have also come with higher chances of severe weather.  It just that time of year here.  But we really need the rain. We had extreme fire danger last month due to the dry conditions.  Fortunately, the recent storms haven't impacted my stitching time over the last week.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Mar = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 66/66 days

I've had a few afternoons when allergies just about got the better of me, but otherwise ...

15 Minutes to Stitch and 100 Days of Index Cards from High Road Quilter

Continuing more of the same may sound boring, but it has been a fun and exciting quilting week.  I have continued making little pieces of art on index cards.

I have chosen background fabrics and finished sewing down the Dresden Plates. I've chosen the backings and bindings for each of the plates, which I needed to piece.

I still need to decide whether I want to use the sashing fabrics. I thought about appliquing the sashing to the quilts, but that might be a lot of work, so maybe I should just sash two blocks, which will be a ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 9 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

We hit the low 80s on Friday and Saturday, but it's supposed to cool off today with a chance of showers. We need the showers, but that's not looking too lightly right now.  Unfortunately the higher temps have meant more pollen so my allergies have been keeping me up at night.  Afternoon naps have been my theme all week, but that didn't keep me from the sewing room.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Feb = 28/28 days

#100 Days, Dresden Plate Reveal, 15 Minutes to Stitch from High Road Quilter

100 days

Today marks the first day of the #the100days challenge on Instagram. My plan is to decorate index cards. I already have a box, and this will give me a tangible way to show the results for 100 days. I was initially thinking of incorporating the 100 days to the 15 minutes to stitch, but since I work on different projects which are in varying states of completion, the results aren't as easy to identify.

Also, an index card is quick to do, even on days when there isn't much time and energy. It also doesn't ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 8 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

We are settling into a new rhythm after all the changes earlier this month.  It will likely change again, but probably not for a couple of months.  I'm back to my normal sewing room times which made for a good week on the stitching front.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Feb = 21/21 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 52/52 days
  • Success rate = 100%

I'm still at 100% on my stitching time so far this year. I've only managed to keep the 100% thru February 3 times in 15 years.  I still ...

15 Minutes to Stitch Week Seven from High Road Quilter

There is no project quilting theme this week - the theme is announced every other week. This means there is time to take a break, but the momentum of making the Fire Horse is high, and with the theme being announced the following week, it makes sense to keep the momentum high.

I have been tempted to start lots of quilts. Right now, I am thinking about making a simple sawtooth stars quilt in greens, with an emphasis on teals. I am also thinking about joining a challenge by Reprolover with four patch made with HSTs. I could use the teals ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 7 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

We've had a much quieter and less stressful week.  Thank you for all the moral support.  Uncertainty is never fun. I can't say our ducks are all in a row, but we at least know where they all are. My Guy has made some decisions about his path forward, it may just take him a bit to get there.

It wasn't too hard to stay on track with my planned stitching time this week.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Feb = 14/14 days
  • 15 minute days/2026 = 45/45 days
  • Success rate ...

Quilt Reveal: Year of the Fire Horse from High Road Quilter

The theme for the Project Quilting Challenge for this week is Year of the Horse. This quilt must be started and finished in one week. This theme made me happy because I had a lot of fun making the horse quilt last year, and the mythical creature quilt.

The rule is to find inspiration from the turn of the year, in the animal, in our hopes and desires for the near future.  I looked up some information about the Chinese zodiac, and decided that I needed to make my horse red, to ward off misfortune and invite blessings.

The Horse ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 6 of 2026 from Life In Pieces

It's been quite a week at my house. My Guy was out in the boonies  monitoring the bald eagle nests in the area.  When he went to leave, the Jeep wouldn't start.  I was in the shower when he first called, so I didn't see any of it for about 10 minutes. My Guy was less then thrilled with my lack of response. He really was in the middle of no where, with a phone that was losing charge.  I could locate him on Life 360, but figuring out how to get to that back country road ...

15 Minutes to Stitch Week Five from High Road Quilter

Look at me, posting on time.  This week was a week off from Project Quilting challenge.  The challenge for this upcoming week, is Year of the Horse, which makes me happy. I was hoping that they would do that. I made a horse quilt last year, and even though I was afraid it wouldn't turn out right, tracing a pattern does let me make a horse that looks like a horse.

In this time off, I continued to work on the recently started quilts.  That is the Lupine and Laughter mystery quilt. I had one block done, but I ...

15 Minutes to Stitch Week Four from High Road Quilter

It is going to take me some practice to remember to post my progress on the 15 Minutes to Stitch challenge every week.  I have been stitching every day though.

I've shown you some of the quilting from this month already on the blog:

  • The Project quilting challenge #1 where I made An Open Space to Breathe (I originally wrote that as A Quiet Place to Breathe, which is also a good name)
  • The project Quilting challenge #2 where I made Change
  • The bunkbed blanket I am repairing
  • The peacock made with leftovers from the Lupine & Laughter mystery
  • The ...
