Stitching Stuff: Week 3 of 2022 from Life In Pieces

The weather this week was a mixed bag.  We started cold, warmed up and ended with the cold. It is just the third week of January, so cold and snow should be expected, even if they aren't appreciated.

Work hasn't geared up too badly yet. I finished up year end conversations this week. Next week it will be goal setting conversations.  Even with all of that going on, it hasn't been to hard to keep up with my goal of stitching at least 15 minutes a day.

  • 15 minute days/week = 7/7 days
  • 15 minute days ...

Quilt Reveal: Pink and Other Colors from High Road Quilter

Announcing the first finished quilt of the year, at least here on the High Road. It is a part of Project Quilting challenge, which means it had to be made in a week. I have already told you the inspiration of this quilt in another post.

I started with a pink scrap and added more pink scraps for the stack. I soon realized that I don't use a lot of pink, so I was very liberal in what I considered to be pink, and included reds and purples.

The end result looks more purple than pink, but there is ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 2 of 2022 from Life In Pieces

The first full week of 2022 is in the bag.  I survived the first week back in the office. Things started off slow, things will ramp up pretty quickly, but hopeful not to the point they did last year.

The Scientist in Training has been home this week. Tomorrow she heads back to college for her last semester of undergraduate.  It's been nice to have someone to hang out with in the sewing room. It does make it easier to make the trek upstairs when you know someone is waiting on you.  Hopefully I don't fall back into ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 1 of 2022 from Life In Pieces

It seems wrong to claim week 1 after just a day of 2022 has passed. But I did check and this has to be week 1 to get 52 weeks of posts.  But there are the last 6 days of 2020 in this week too.  I was on vacation this last week, so my stitching time was vastly improved the last few days of 2020.

  • 15 minute days/week 1 = 7/7
  • 15 minute days/week December = 11/31 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 271/365
  • 15 minute days/2022 = 1/1
  • Success rate for 2021 = 74.3%

2022 Quilting Ambitions from Life In Pieces

There's just one more day left in 2021.  It always amazes me how fast the last couple of months of the year go.  It's already time to make plans for 2022. I'm playing along with Quilting Jet Girl's 2022 Planning Party again this year.

This year was especially quick as life was more hectic than normal.  This week is the first chance I've had a chance to just sit and reflect on how my quilty life went in 2021. It wasn't a very productive year on that front. No one can know what the ...

Best of Life in Pieces in 2021 from Life In Pieces

This is the 7th year that I've played along with Cheryl of Meadow Mist Designs Best of series. It's fun to look back at some of the high points posted on the blog this last year.

1. Most Views (400): Stitching Time: Week 2 of 2021

I'm not sure why this one had so many views, though it's one of my favorite posts from this last year.  The Scientist in Training took a few stitches on my traveling cross stitch project while we were visiting family last Christmas. From that she decided to give embroidery a ...

Quilt Progress from High Road Quilter

I finished another Postage Stamp block as a Leader / Ender while I was working on the Representation Quilt. In case you missed it, I drew names and our family is sharing art that represents the gift recipient..

We decided to hold our family gathering virtually because of schedules and the virus. This means that we have to give some time to mail our representation gifts. I will let you know what fun ideas everyone had after we distribute them and hold our gathering.

I finished my Representation Quilt and sent it off. I will show that one to you later ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 52 of 2021 from Life In Pieces

We had temperatures in the 80's for both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, it certainly didn't feel like a typical Xmas holiday.  Hope your holiday was full of family and fun. Ours certainly was.

It's week 52 of 2021, so this will be the last stitching stuff post for the year.  I like to close out my stitching year on December 31st, so I'll have the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022 in next week's post.  My stitching week didn't go so well. I spent all of last weekend working on company ...

2021: Week 51 of 15 Minutes to Stitch from High Road Quilter

At our last Zoom family gathering in October, we had this conversation.

One of my relatives mentioned she had painted a portrait of our brother. She said she had heard that you should paint portraits of people you love instead of strangers. She was planning on painting more portraits of family members.

Someone said something positive about this idea.

Another person said that it would be nice for all of us to draw names and gift a portrait to each other this year. More conversation followed about ways this would work with different skill sets. Someone said that we could ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 51 of 2021 from Life In Pieces

The last couple of weeks have been a struggle. Work has been difficult and time consuming.  Our division announced a huge reorganization, so between the extra meetings and the end of the year reports, that's meant some really long work days.  I'm also having computer issues, it's really, really slow. Getting to email or writing a blog takes forever.  So my apologies for not getting a linky party up last weekend, it just wasn't doable with all that was going on.

My stitching report is really depressing for the last two weeks.

Stitching Suff: Week 49 of 2021 from Life In Pieces

Week 49?  That means there are only 3 more weeks in 2021. Hard to believe we are that close to the end of another year.  But for now let's focus on this week for my sanity's sake.  Week 49 was pretty good for me on the stitching front.

  • 15 minute days/week 49 = 5/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Nov = 19/30 days
  • 15 minute days/Dec = 2/4 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 262/338 days
  • Success rate = 77.51%

I lost one day of stitching time to a late work night and the second to the ...

2021: Week 50 of 15 Minutes to Stitch from High Road Quilter

When last we met in my last post, I told you that we had our family birthday gathering. It went well, and with a clean house, I rolled right into a meeting with the customers at work.  My desk faces the wall, so my zoom screen behind me shows the dining room table in the living room. It kept me from making any quilting messes, but I didn't have any time to make a mess either, so it all worked out.

Lots of long hours. Although I didn't have a time zone change to deal with like others ...

2021:  Week 48 of 15 Minutes to Stitch

I spent my week getting ready for the gathering and having the gathering. We had a good time, even though some members of our family was not able to come.

I spent a couple of sessions to put the remainder of the pieces on the Halloween block. I plan to have one or more quilt finishes before the end of the year to offset the many quilts I have started.

Stitching Stuff: Week 48 of 2021 from Life In Pieces

This week of vacation went fast. There was lots to do.  My niece's wedding was last weekend, so no stitching time then.  Even though I was off work, I spent one afternoon on work stuff.  There was other stuff that got in the way of sewing room time, but this week was definitely better than last week in that department.

  • 15 minute days week 48 = 5/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Nov = 16/27 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 257/331 days
  • Success rate = 77.64%

At least November is proving to be better than October was on the ...

2021:  Week 47 of 15 Minutes to Stitch

It's been busy at work while we gear up to meet with the customers. I am hosting the Thanksgiving gathering this year, so I have been spending time getting ready for them. This means that there hasn't been a lot of sewing, but I did have all those loose pieces I needed to press for the October house mini quilt. I decided that it would be better for me to go ahead and lay them out and press them down instead of leaving all these little fused pieces all loose ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 46 of 2021 from Life In Pieces

It was one of those weeks.  My Guy and I worked late several nights last week. It's performance review season, which means lots of reading, editing and meetings for me.  So there wasn't a lot of time or energy for stitching this week.

  • 15 minute days/week 46 = 4/7 days
  • 15 minute days/Nov = 9/13 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 250/317 days
  • Success rate = 78.86%

This hasn't been one of my better years for stitching time.  It's not my worst ever, I'd have to drop below a 52% success rate for ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 45 from Life In Pieces

One week of November gone already.  This time of year speeds by, it will be the end of the year before we know it. This last week certainly went quickly, but I did better at finding time to wander into the sewing room.

  • 15 minute days/week 45 = 6/7 days
  • 15 minute days/November = 5/6 days
  • 15 minute days/2021 = 246/310 days
  • Success rate = 79.35%
So not a bad week.  I'm hoping things remain on an even keel for the rest of the month. We have a wedding later this month, but I will be ...

2021: Week 44 of 15 Minutes to Stitch from High Road Quilter

I continued taking lots of photographs this week, and have gone through my October folder to see if there were any other photos to show you.

Most of these photos are taken with an iphone. Since I am taking so many photos, I thought I would try to submit some to Shutterstock.

They rejected all of the ones I submitted, mostly due to compression and focus. It's okay. I am not upset. I figured that if they were usable, I should try. If they aren't, I can share them on my blog without worrying about it.

I think ...

Stitching Stuff Weeks 43 and 44 from Life In Pieces

Happy Halloween!  Hopefully you are all ready for trick or treaters this evening.  We are, though I'm not sure how many we'll get. A lot of parents from work were planning on dong the trunk n trick with their kiddos this weekend.

I missed posting last weekend.  We were at a family wedding and had a tire go bad. I had hoped to get a post out, but we were at the wedding late, then had to be up and out early on Sunday to find someplace to fix the tire before we started the 350 mile drive ...

2021: Week 43 of 15 Minutes to Stitch from High Road Quilter

With the shorter days and cooler weather, I have been focusing on getting my house ready for the winter. Even though I have been spending most of my time at home anyway, I feel the need to be ready to continue to do that for the winter.

I am also working full time, doing my favorite part of the project.

Most of the photos in this post were taken while I was looking for closeup photos.

2021:  Week 43 of 15 Minutes to Stitch

Another wimpy report. I started the purple postage stamp block. I have the rows done, just ...
