April 2024 update from Fabric Engineer

Once again, it's been a while since I've done an update post.  Some has changed, a lot hasn't.  But it helps me remember where things are.

Quilts I'm actively working on:

1. Pat's quilt:  I just finished putting together all the scrappy blocks.  I have a few blocks to cut apart and then sew back together (as is a quilter's life) and then I can start putting the blocks together.  This quilt is taking a bit longer than I expected because it keeps getting interrupted.

2. Christmas tree quilt: post the pictures

3. Surprise ...

Me not at Scrub Stitchin' (boo hoo tears) from Dreamworthy Quilts

This is me, upper right,  NOT at Scrub Stitchn' but zooming with the bunch instead.  We started off early with Janice, the tour guide, Susan, and Lou.

Chris joined us shortly after.  We also got to see snippets of the Scrub Stitchers in Baradine.  Hello Jenny and Lianne.  I need help with some of the other names.

Chooky shows up!

And then there were Janice, Karen, and Gail...

We were all together last year except for Karen.

It truly felt like I was there.  When I first got on Janice was taking us around the room showing us what was ...

Friends & Sew & Tell ~ April 15, 2024 from Melva Loves Scraps

I've written about a special group of ladies that I am part of... Friends and Sisters in Christ... We've loved and supported each other throughout many years, life's challenges, up and downs.

It has been almost 4 years since the larger group of gals has gathered together to fellowship for a weekend.

This weekend it happened!  In total, eleven of us gathered at a special place called "The Refuge."  Because of this, I don't have a great amount of time to write.

I worked very peacefully on Tuesday and Wednesday as I wrote and tested/pieced ...

Hot Springs National Park: Part One from ... Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's our last morning in Hot Springs. We'll be moving along later this morning, heading to Morrilton, Arkansas, and Petite Jean State Park. We have three nights at our next stop, and we're hoping to see a big waterfall and to do some hiking. The weather is looking a little iffy for one of our days, and so we'll have to see how it goes when the time comes.

For now, I want to tell you about our visit to Hot Springs National Park. First, however, let's get an update on ...

Hot Springs National Park: Part Two from ... Cat Patches

A second good morning to you, my friends. This is Part Two of our visit to Hot Springs National Park. You can find my Part One post right here. So let's start again at the beginning of Bathhouse Row.

We were preparing to walk this main walkway along the bathhouses.

This first structure was "Superior Baths." It was a bathhouse, restaurant, and craft brewery. We had lunch here on the walk back. I was hoping to pick up a t-shirt for Erik here, but the only one in his size was kind of dumb. I passed.

Free Motion Quilting – Bunting from I Patch and Quilt

Have you ever made your own free motion bunting?

A basic bunting design is pretty easy ‘to put up’. Before you start, add some guidelines on your fabric so you know the curve of the bunting. Use chalk or a fabric marking pen.

Begin by stitching out the arches of the bunting, freehand or with a ruler. Then go back in and add the zigzag line for the little flags. It doesn’t matter if you start the zig zag from the right or the left.

If you want your bunting to be a bit more decorative, consider adding another ...

Spring Frolic Kits from Sew'n Wild Oaks Quilting Blog

 Hello Everyone,

I'm deep in preparations for my first Sew'n Wild Oaks Retreat of the year at Snowflake Lodge here in Arnold, CA.  One of the projects is my new Spring Frolic design.

This weekend, my sister Gail and our friend Debbie helped me make kits for the girls.  They are ADORABLE!  The table topper features my Hearthstone fabric line from Marcus Fabrics.  Debbie said she has a much greater appreciation for kits after she saw the level of effort it takes to pull them together.

I ordered more bolts from Marcus Fabrics so I can make more ...

I finally have the pattern finished for the shop sample using the new Wild North fabric collection we received recently. I'm calling it Wild North Zoom Meeting. If you've ever attended a Zoom meeting in gallery view then you get it. I was picturing all these animals in their nests and dens on their laptops chatting with each other.

What was I meant to be doing? from The Quilt Quine

Yet again, I have had a week when what I was meant to be doing (on paper) was not what I ended up doing, not that those things were not valid in their own way;) I did get 2 customer quilts done before Nella pointed out that she would like to spend some time with me in the last week of her Easter hols. The custom quilt had to have a few thread tails sewn in and the red flying-geese one was a bit of a challenge because the customer wanted the echo quilting to look exactly as it did ...

Weekend Update from Quarter-Inch Capers

It was a good weekend! I worked in the shop Friday and Saturday and got some quilting (and binding) done. The quilting got done on this one, and then I sat down and got the binding sewn on.

I did cut the binding on the bias, and I’m happy with the way it looks.
I forgot the name of the quilting design I used, but I think it was Precious Pearls. I was aiming for something that mimicked the designs in the fabrics.

I said a long time ago I wouldn’t make any more bag quilts, but this ...

Licorice Twist Gift-Away! from Quiltville's Quips & Snips!

Happy Monday & PDF Pattern Release Day, Quiltvillians!

It seems for the past week all I've done is run from one appointment to the other - ticking off all the boxes and making sure everything was done on time.

BARELY on time.

And this morning is the same -

As this posts I'm off to Winston for the Retinal Specialist with Hubster Dave driving as I will be dilated and unable to drive myself home.  It's like a 3-4 hour procedure, so we'll see what comes of this.

I'm hitting publish on this post and getting everything out ...
