First up, the Fabulous Features from Saturday Sparks 609.
This week's photo challenge had both My Guy and I debating if a trip to Tulsa was necessary as we weren't sure there were many of these in town.
We did make the trip to Tulsa, but I found my image in town on one of my rambles.
Kate: Where the Buffalo Roam? |
Oklahoma is one of the places where the buffalo used to roam. So it's not surprising that our community decided to put bison statues all over town. This one is called "Tree of Life", it's in front of the Presbyterian Church downtown. As ...
read moreThe Zoom sessions for the "day job" are complete! For the remainder of the year, we'll be doing in-person events, and I have some booked near me! So watch for events at Sew Productive in Milton and Thimbles Quilts and Sewing in Windsor (Lasalle). They are going to be fun and informative, and I've been making NEW samples.
That leaves one in-person event today (all packed) and two Zooms to prepare for tomorrow. The final writing assignment is almost edited, and I'm doing well. I'm a little behind schedule, but it's doable to complete it ...
read moreSome of my purple sewing this week has been planned and some has actually been spontaneous. Without any work hours scheduled the past 2 weeks, I've gotten a lot of sewing time in and feel like I've accomplished a lot.
I go away a couple of times a year with the most wonderful group of modern quilters. It’s a weekend of laughter and some serious sewing in the beautiful township of Boonah. Last year we started a Bee of 12 members where we make a block or two or ten for each other. Most of us have finished or in the throws of finishing our Bee quilts. I have to add the final embroidery touches to my quilt and then I can reveal the finished project. These are the blocks for 2024. You will recognise most blocks from popular ...
read moreI did more organizing with the flannel fabrics but am not done yet. I found a light fabric to match with 3 strips that were cut for 16 patches. I'll have to count how many 16 patches I have now. These need to be pressed before I go any farther with them. I have a huge box of flannel scraps. The last time I sorted them was early 2017 and I cut lots of tumbler shapes and tossed all of the small pieces.
I selected 11 more pairs for 9 patches last night and sewed 3 of them.

Whew! what a week, so much studio time to finish two big projects, Stay at home round robin (SAHRR) and Project quilting (Irish chain)
Just so you know, also this week I wrote a few stories, made ink and paper drawings, and cooked.
(I am starting with the round robin, then we will see the Project quilting piece. If you're only here for PQ feel free to scroll down)
The first image is the center of my quilted SAHRR and here it is finished, including a hanging sleeve!

read moreAnd this is going to take awhile to get it done – but one block at a time and I hope it won’t take more than a couple months to get it done. I am going with this block for the middle of each border only (as if that won’t be enough work) and then […]

If you ever want to stitch this and are stitching on 40-count linen, you don’t need as much floss as the pattern calls for. I also want to note that …

Foundation Pieced Applique Easter Eggs Tutorial
When I was working on the Easter Egg Hunt post, I found all these decorative eggs in the EQ8 Library. They are all under 05-Contemporary Applique>Holiday -Easter. While I loved the blocks, I wanted something simpler to work with. So I deleted all the elements other than ... |
That blue seems almost like the odd one out doesn't it, but that's exactly what colour studies are about! The colours work well in nature, so they can work well together, the more important choice in quilt making is the pattern!
I imagine this would work well in a hexagon quilt with the blue as the centre of a hexie flower, surrounded by two rounds of green then the creamy background ...

Looks old fashioned to me, but I like old fashioned so that is ok.
Some rather fiddly blocks, and if it was a real old quilt it would have all been done by hand.
I like the first one best because there is more quilting being shown off.

read moreThere are quite a few options when it comes to making a quilt design wall. I have had a few in the past and they’ve always been simple and easy to make.
In the future, I would love to make something a little more permanent – and nicer. But for now, you can make a design wall for your quilt blocks just like the one I have.
You should have all the materials you need on hand. Batting, felt (if you want), pins.
