Branson, Missouri from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends, and welcome to the "Show Me" state. Just now I had to inquire of The Google to ask why Missouri is the "Show Me" state. I found a couple of answers right here.

We backtracked our way out of Arkansas's state park yesterday. Fairly soon, we found ourselves crossing over the Arkansas River.

Looking out my window, it looked like this. It's a fairly large river.

Looking out Mike's window, it looks like this:

The Arkansas River is the same river we saw when we visited the Royal Gorge Bridge in Canon City ...

Log Cabin Block Drive Round Up from Quilting Is More Fun Than Housework

I know I told you guys that I would share more Churn Dash quilts today but I finished the last Log Cabin quilt so I thought I would compose the round up stats for you instead.

Quilt number 17 is the final quilt made from the block drive.  Janet and Audrey did a great job coming up with the above layout using up the last of the blocks.  I think there were only two blocks that didn't get used from this drive.  We will find another home for them at a later date.

This final quilt measures 55" x ...

Bear gets a haircut! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh, what a tangled web I weave in the technology world. Yesterday, I attempted to download some documents, and somehow, I downloaded another web browser, and then BitDefender got in the way. So I managed to delete the web browser, and I thought I had solved the BitDefender issue, but apparently not. I'll deal with that later. In the meantime, things work, just different from how they used to!

I've alerted the website that caused the issue, and hopefully, they can fix it!

I had a reasonably productive day, but I'm not ready to share it with ...

Lilac and Hibiscus Jelly from Patchwork Times by Judy Laquidara

Note: When making lilac jelly, make sure you’re getting blossoms from a “common lilac” as other types, such as the Persian lilac, are said to not be safe for consumption by humans or pets. Yesterday morning I started with the lilacs that had been steeping overnight and made lilac jelly. The recipe I use for...

Adventures in New Flavors from From My Carolina Home

I do enjoy cooking, and finding new combinations of meats and vegetables to keep My Sweet Babboo well fed. I am lucky in that he will eat just about anything put in front of him at the table, and likes vegetables. So when I received the latest cookbook from Milk Street, I knew we were in for some adventures in new flavors. The 365 in the title refers to the days in a year, and the cookbook contains over 600 recipes for just about every type of dish or meal you want.

Once again, I have loaded up the pages ...

Sketchy Faces from Gene Black an Alabama Artist

I have been doing a few quick sketch faces. I did these just for fun and usually just imagined faces. One face however was inspired while I was streaming a video.

Using an "economy of line"

Inspired by a character in a streaming show.

Hmm.. he seems angry.

Dejected

The one below is for Nicole

Just a bit weird.

The hairstyle looks like the late 60's

I am linking to the Friday Face Off with Nicole.

Busy hands, happy life.............. from Exuberant Color

I like to keep busy with fabric whether I have a project or not.  I have 2 project boxes full of Marcia Derse scraps and I keep looking at them and they don't look inspiring in the mess in the box.  I decided to loosely sort the strips by several lengths and slip them into plastic bags.  The odd shaped pieces will go in another bag.

Then if I decide to make blocks similar to this mock up, I will have an easier time selecting the strips.  Sorting is an easy job while watching TV.

There were a lot ...

Friday finish - folk art sampler from Just Sew Sue

It is already week 15 of the Folk Art Sampler with Art East Quilting. I am over halfway through the schedule for the 26 week programme to completion.

Last week's block was entitled Star Fish - not quite what I envisaged, but it is a fish with a star in it and another fiddly star at that. The green fish on blue should have been the other way around, but I can live with my mistake. I have also run out of the original pink fabric, so I have substituted a deep pink with paler pink crosses for my original ...

Cross Stitch Update from Jo's Country Junction

I didn’t get much stitching time this week. I had family here. Then after they left, I was playing catch up on both the house and the blog. My goal for the week was to stitch the personalization of Though He Seemeth Sleeping. I did that over the course of two evenings. I changed up …

Have You Tried My Aurifil Thread Collections? from Christa Quilts

One of my favorite things about being a designer is getting to be a spokesperson or ambassador for many different companies in the quilting industry. I love telling folks about things that I use in my sewing room every day. Probably one of the most important supplies I use in *all* of my quilts is my collection of Aurifil threads.

Click here to see all of the colors included in each box of my Aurifil threads.

I curated my favorite grouping of colors, neutrals, and variegated threads I use for both piecing AND quilting. They are all size 50 weight ...

More Patchwork from 1934 from The Chester County Criswell Quilt

It's hard to believe that the first four months of 2024 have nearly gone - a third of a year.

This week's block is Hour Glass.  There are a number of different patterns called Hour Glass, but I have chosen this one from Laura Wheeler.  Laura Wheeler designs were often set out on point, diamonds rather than squares.

Hour Glass, contrary to its name, is a quilt in which time plays little part, for it is done so quickly.  The hour glass is formed of darker or brighter patches, and could, of course, be done in scraps if desired ...

Sewing & Quilt Expo on Off the Wall Friday from Creations - Quilts, Art, Whatever by Nina-Marie Sayre

Waiting for the vendors to open!

Okay am I the only one who has never been to a Sewing Expo?  This year I finally got to attend since it was returning to the I-X Center on the westside of Cleveland...and let me tell ya....most of the women I talk to have been going for years.  After spending the day, now I understand why.

Reason 1 - the Expo encompasses all that is sewing and quilting - If it has to do with those two things, then you will find it there.  There were vendors for EVERYTHING which includes but not ...

Woke In Pain from Quilting My Way

This morning, I woke in pain. Actually, had pain all night. So, I pretty much didn't do much all day.

I think the pain is from moving around. It's pulling on the seams. It's something I need to do and will continue, so that it's not tight all the time. It takes a lot of getting used to. Pain is pain and I have learned to deal with it.

I did get my walking in. AND I did work on my puzzle a little bit today.

I did find one of the border pieces that's ...

Not Blue, But Many Colours. from Sunburnt Quilts

Time to make a break from the blue quilts. This is one that had been started a while back, then was put aside. But I was able to get back to it and have a LAQ do the quilting for me. It gives the impression of being a Christmas quilt, although I didn’t plan it that way.

It is made from a fabric range by Jacquelynne Steves called Joy, Love, Peace, Noel. So I suppose it is a Christmas fabric. You need a close look to see how lovely the fabrics are.

I used a spot fabric for an ...

Beth's Quilt Tops from Kat & Cat Quilts

GE Designs "Two Timer" in barn raising layout

Happy Friday quilters! Today's three quilt tops were all sent in by long-time supporter Beth T. These first two were quilted by Dee on her longarm.

This quilt was actually originally the backing to the one above, but we both felt it was too complex and would make a nice quilt on its own.

Dee rustled up some muslin to back it with and quilted it with an autumnal motif.  Beth must have a beautiful stash because she always has the most well-coordinated tops.

Beth makes a lot of her quilts ...

Stitching Stuff: Week 15 of 2024 from Life In Pieces

I'm a bit late posting this morning. I'm a bit dragged out from all the travel.  We spent all of last week in Texas. The big draw was the eclipse on Monday, but we stayed a few extra days to spend some time with Grad Girl.  I shared one of my photos earlier this week. My Guy used his DSLR and a filter.  Here are some of his shots.

As you can see in the photos, the cloud cover cleared just before totality, but was back before the eclipse ended.

As we were on the road all of ...
